This is just dumb. Regardless of whether it is or isn't a part of one's job, denying a serious allegation made against you should never be considered "defamation" of the accuser. Knowing how insane that is and focusing on the "she's not my type" remark is just as dumb.

You apply for a job, they call your old boss for a reference, and the boss says you're a disreputable liar.

If that's fine with you, then it's because you're a disreputable liar.
