California Gov. Gavin Newsom: The Governor completed an extensive review of Mr. Sirhan's case and determined that he currently poses an unreasonable threat to public safety. The Governor reached his decision based on several factors, including Mr. Sirhan's refusal to accept responsibility for his crime, lack of insight and accountability required to support his safe release, failure to disclaim violence committed in his name, and failure to mitigate his risk factors. "Mr. Sirhan's assassination of Senator Kennedy is among the most notorious crimes in American history," wrote Governor Newsom in his decision. "After decades in prison, he has failed to address the deficiencies that led him to assassinate Senator Kennedy. Mr. Sirhan lacks the insight that would prevent him from making the same types of dangerous decisions he made in the past."

Why wasn't he executed? So much money and time wasted on a worthless individual. He will never be freed. It seems wasteful.

Great book on RFK assassination:

The Assassination of Robert F Kennedy: Conspiracy and Coverup

Random House

Co-written by former L.A. FBI Field Office agent (at that time) Bill Turner & investigative reporter Jonn Christian

The autopsy itself evidences Sirhan Sirhan couldn't have killed RFK. Bullets were fired from point blank range from behind. They propose a guy who was first time security guard, Thane Eugene Cesar, fired the fatal bullets into RFK while everyone was distracted by Sirhan's blanks being fired from in front and several feet away.

And more than 8 bullets were found embedded in the kitchen interior and RFK's body.

It is difficult to muster any feelings of sympathy whatsoever for Sirhan Sirhan. He is a cold blooded murderer who to this day does not acknowledge responsibility for what he did. Zero remorse. Zero acknowledgement. Zero insight.

By inaction and direct action the FBI/CIA were responsible both Kennedy assassinations. The FBI have never been the organisation depicted by Efrem Zimbalist Jr.

"Why wasn't he executed?"

Same reason Charles Manson wasn't:

Sirhan was convicted on April 17, 1969, and was sentenced six days later to death in the gas chamber. Three years later, his sentence was commuted to life in prison, owing to the California Supreme Court's decision in People v. Anderson, which ruled that capital punishment is a violation of the California Constitution's prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment. The February 1972 decision was retroactive, invalidating all existing death sentences in California.

Why wasn't he executed?

Because government shouldn't be in the business of murdering people.

#17 - they aren't. Capital punishment is legal in some states, and therefore according to the definition of murder it can't be murder.
murder verb
murdered; murdering m'r-d('-)ri
Definition of murder
transitive verb

1: to kill (a human being) unlawfully and with premeditated malice
Likewise murdering animals is not possible since they are not humans.

Hiding behind the law doesn't change the morality -- or lack thereof -- of the premeditated killing of a defenseless person.

#19 | Posted by snoofy at 2022-01-14 06:41 PM | Reply

Killing prisoners isn't cost effective.
