The old boys club is dead. But a new one"with its own litmus tests and landmines"is rapidly replacing it. 'This is all going to end in a giant class-action lawsuit.'

Rapid firing half baked content to hit algorithms (online content delivery model) is what's hurting Hollywood from my viewer perspective.
Most folks have limited time to consume content, so when studios shotgun blast content production to have content for content's sake, rather than investing in an original and polished piece of art, it hurts the whole scene, IMO.

I quit watching TV a long time ago. It's all regurgitated vomit. I don't miss it either.

Someone said it best on a prior thread.

Too many movies made for foreign audiences mean less dialogue and more action/cgi.

Writing in Hollywood movies has been boiled down to catch phrases and everything is shot in a green screen laden sound stage.

Most people want to "watch" something they can ignore while looking at their smart phones.

This is just another nonsensical reverse racism screed.

Trust me Hollywood will do just fine and guess what, get away from Disney/WB movies (ie superhero movies) and there is a great deal of awesome movies/tv shows out there.

And you know what, movies/tv shows with non-white hetero male centric stories can actually be good.

- non-white hetero male centric stories can actually be good.

When restorers of ancient statues in places like Rome actually restore what we are used to seeing in weathered white to the original colors... no one really likes them. It isn't what we are used to seeing.

Colorized versions of movies from the 20's and 30's can also be unlikeable because we expect to see something different.

Wokeness doesn't kill Hollywood, Alec Baldwin kills Hollywood.

Hollydud has long been bankrupt for its' own narrative on movie themes. Now mostly driven by comic book heroes and stories, it is more computer graphic content and less real acting. Computer graphics and effects by themselves do not a great story make.

"I'm all for LGBT and Native Americans, blacks, females, whatever minorities that have not been served correctly in the making of content, whether it's television or movies or whatever, but I think it's gone too far. I know a lot of very talented people that can't get work because they're not black, Native American, female or LGBTQ."

There are only a limited number of slots in any production. In the past, a lot of very talented marginalized people were purposely excluded. Now that they are being included, some whites are naturally going to be excluded. This loss of white privilege, in essence, is what is fueling the white rage that has America on edge. All of a sudden, "whites only" opportunities that whites took for granted, have to be shared amongst a larger, more diverse group of people. Welcome to the feeling that marginalized people have always felt i.e. that you have to be twice as good just to have an opportunity to compete. Whiteness is no longer a go-to-the-head-of-the-line card.

Given the seemingly explosion in the number of productions (TV, streaming services, movies, etc.), it is hard to imagine anyone with talent being out of work. It may not be the work that would lead to being a star but it would seem like there should be plenty of work (excluding the impact of the pandemic of course).

559 scripted shows in production.

If actors and production can't find work, it's because they're lazy. This has been coming since 2016. They should've been prepared.

Whites having to share resources.

"Whites having to share resources."

That's not the problem.

I've said before you can't make people like you.

And you can't make people pay to watch stuff they aren't interested.

I never watch black themed films or marshall arts.

Also don't like horror films or crazy killers.

Does woke stuff make money?

Proselytizing when people who show up want to be entertained is a stupid business model. But, whatever.

I have "Trading Places" on DVD - can watch a funny flick any time I want. To hell with this woke preachy crap. I ain't watching it.

#16 | Posted by BellRinger at 2022-01-16 02:00 AM | Reply

Nobody wants to watch "Whiteman saves the world" movies anymore. Especially when the "woke" crowd's life experience does not believe in. Your real-life reputation is finally overtaking PR reputation.

Its as simple as that.

I was waiting for someone to say racist.

Surprised it happened so quick.

I guess I'm murderphobic because I don't care to see slasher films?

Your post demonstrates how people memorize being trained to not use certain words but actually lack genuine empathy and have not internalized a personal understanding.

You know...I personally suspect there was a singular moment when middle America really got it just how much liberal Hollywood despises half of this country.

It was when Robert Deniro, a respected and liked "everyman" actor, got on live TV during an awards show watched by millions and said F Trump.

I'm nearly beyond being shocked anymore but that set me back.

I can well imagine it hit quite a few people the way it hit me.

Oh my Robert De Niro said F Trump?? OMFG how will you go on living??

I'm not all that but I know you don't get on tv and say the f word where children will be watching.

It only shows that being rich doesn't automatically mean you have any class.

I know poor people with more class than Deniro demonstrated.

Looking at you, BILL.

I've always figured being an actor is a job where it can be hard to maintain real self-esteem.

They pretend they are accomplished doctors, spys, husbands, policemen, counselors, educated intellectuals but really they are just repeating words off a page usually written by someone else. Some play crazy people which has its own set of problems.

So they continue the facade and "act" as if they have self-esteem.

And they can get quite rich if they're good at it. Some are actually intelligent and educated. Acting is a skill and a natural talent for some but still, they're acting. They aren't the characters they pretend to be.

There must be a certain sort of inner turmoil when they meet strangers who want to attribute some of the characteristics (good or bad) of the people they play onto the real person.

"no...I'm just an actor who tells himself he's saving the world to compensate for the fact I'm a fake."

Lack of originality is killing Hollywood. It's nothing but remakes and schitty Marvel movies.

Sorry but superhero movies suck. Top Gun 3 is uninteresting. The third Matrix was so bad god knows why they thought there needed to be a fourth.

It's just an industry coasting on fumes producing content for a populace with ever decreasing standards and attention spans.

People want to be entertained.

The ridiculous amount of money paid to top tier actors and sports stars is testament to that.

#39 | Posted by REDIAL at 2022-01-16 05:24 PM | Reply

I agree. After so many decades of movie making, good original ideas are getting few and far between.

#40 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2022-01-16 05:24 PM | Reply

Although I have to be in the right mood but myself, I have a growing interest in some Asian titles on netflix. The plot lines are original but I wish they would dub to English more.

But the human interactions are honest and without "attitude".

I get dvds from Netflix.

They have a good mixture of foreign films in the original language subtitled in English.

One movie Frantz in German worth watching very original plot.

Set in the Great War a Frenchman dealing with guilt went to visit the grave of a German man he killed during the war and ended up meeting the grieving family.

#9 The only problem I have with what you're saying here is that my son, white male, trying to get into an Ivy League school to double major in Math and Musical Theater... with a perfect SAT score in math is being turned away. The 'unofficial' feedback he's getting from the musical theater people is that it's because he's a white male, they don't want white males at all. There's losing the white privilege edge, and then there is outright punishing white male boys and the pendulum has swung that far.
