Fewer than 10,000 people are using CNN+ on a daily basis two weeks into its existence, according to people familiar with the matter.

...CNN+ launched on March 29. The subscription news streaming service, which charges $5.99 a month or $59.99 annually, only became available on Roku on Monday and still isn't on Android TV. Still, the paltry audience casts doubt on the future of the application following the recently completed combination of Discovery and WarnerMedia into Warner Bros. Discovery.

To put that daily user number in perspective, CNN's cable network suffered a sharp decline in viewership last year but still rang up an average of 773,000 total viewers a day.

"We continue to be happy with the launch and its progress after only two weeks," a CNN spokesperson said.

CNN sought to make a huge splash with CNN+, luring big-name talent from rival news networks, such as Kasie Hunt from NBC News and Chris Wallace from Fox News. But there is broad skepticism whether there's enough demand to sustain a stand-alone news streaming service, with entertainment-first options dominating the landscape. Disney+, for instance, posted more than 10 million subscribers on its first day....

The only surprising part of this is that there is anyone willing to pay money for content from any of the cable news outlets. Anyone regularly watching cable news should be tested for dementia and anyone paying extra to watch even more cable news should be placed under conservatorship.

I do not disagree.

I thought it somewhat humorous that the cited article compared the subscription rate of CNN+ to that of Disney+.

I just can't imagine paying even more money for cable TV just to watch more opinionated pundit-based commentary. We are beyond saturated. Now another sports channel on the other hand...

CNN lost it's way long ago. Jeff Zucker really ruined it.

It never became a fascist lie machine like fox is, but it became infotainment, trying to get viewership by creating who-done-it mysteries like that stupid passenger plane that went missing and CNN was obsessed with it for months instead of covering more pressing news.

And no one who takes their news channel seriously would ever hire don lemon. The man single handedly destroys CNN's gravitas. He's a pathetic play for "who can we hire that will hit the most liberal identity points? Young. Minority. Gay. Too bad he's not a woman or he'd be their dream host. Yet all he can do is cluck and scold and say "so disgusting" "so shocking" after every story. Like yeah stupid, that's MY job to sit here and say it's shocking. Your job is to give info, not tell everyone how to feel about it.

CNN has a new head now. We'll see if he can fix anything.

With all of the other subscription streaming options out there, I cannot imagine having time or interest in paying to watch extra CNN content. If its entire library was available, I'd be more interested in a streaming version of PBS.

Just invest all that money on making CNN better, and the world be a better place. As it is, I have a renewed respect for CNN because of their coverage of the war in Ukraine. Great job. Still, no more subscriptions please...

I'm glad to see their DAU - daily active users - under or around 10k. Terrible business move for their platform to not enable viewing of live CNN coverage without a cable subscription. And terrible business moves deserve to be crushed.

Also know someone at Warner media who is not a good person >:)
Rooting for the cuts
