The longer Ukraine's army fends off the invading Russians, the more it absorbs the advantages of Western weaponry and training -- exactly the transformation President Vladimir Putin wanted to prevent by invading in the first place.

....The list of arms flowing to Ukraine is long and growing longer. It includes new American battlefield aerial drones and the most modern U.S. and Canadian artillery, anti-tank weapons from Norway and others, armored vehicles and anti-ship missiles from Britain and Stinger counter-air missiles from the U.S., Denmark and other countries....

Speaking of Stinger missiles...

As Raytheon struggles to replenish Stinger missiles, lawmaker pushes Defense Production Act
www.defensenews.com

... The U.S. may not be able to make more of the shoulder-fired Stinger anti-aircraft missiles it has been sending to Ukraine until at least 2023 due to parts and materials shortages, the head of manufacturer Raytheon Technologies said Tuesday.

The revelation, during Raytheon's quarterly earnings call, underscores the challenge facing the Pentagon and defense industry as they seek to boost arms production in response to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. The bottleneck is fueling recommendations from Capitol Hill that President Joe Biden invoke the Defense Production Act to prioritize supplies of components for weapons like the Stinger....

Before this war is over Ukraine is going to be as Western as Spain

In some respects, I tend to agree.

Pres Putin, as the headline notes, seems to have pushed Ukraine more towards the West.

While I doubt if that was his goal, it does seem to be the result of his ineptitude in the Ukraine arena.

But, I suspect, we are still early in this timeline....

Will Russia be allowed to Westernize too? Or are they cast into the Outer Darkness?

Putin was dumber'en ----. He definitely made a mistake.

Unless you see that he believed war was inevitable anyway.

Then the crazy makes sense. Then he was premptively taking the initiative.

Did the NATO war games make him soft in the head?

Or did he read intentions correctly?

Either way, why war happened now is important.

At least if stopping it is really what anyone wants.

Russia had a chance to westernize in the 90s instead picked Putin a effeminate weirdo with a violence fetish and his army of turd burglars who now pretend to be Americans on the internet.

@#5 ... Will Russia be allowed to Westernize too? ...

That's the wrong question.

Russia was well on it's way to participating within the world economy.

Russia was contributing to the culture of this blue marble.

Then Pres Putin blew it.

Big time.

Now Russia looks like it may wind up in a similar to North korea.

So, how did Pres Putin's invasion and intended annexation of Ukraine go for the Russian people?

From drudge.com ...

... ...The Kremlin is considering a plan to suspend regional elections set for September amid concerns about growing social tension due to the war in Ukraine and sanctions imposed by the U.S. and its allies, according to people familiar with the discussions......

Why is Pres Putin so afraid of elections now?

Then he was premptively taking the initiative.

Is there any other way?

What spoon is out of office of course there will likely be a chance for Russia to westernize but that will only happen if average Russians move fast and prevent China from invading Russia and yes China is currently considering it.

When Putin is out of office

I wonder if he has figured out that none of his nukes work anymore since all the money that was supposed to be spent on maintaining them has been stuffed into offshore bank accounts and big expensive toys?

There's a good chance that Russia doesn't even have any Warheads left due to their haven't been sold by generals over the last two decades.

I've wondered the same thing. Like maybe the Russian Armed Forces maintained one or two functioning whatevers just to show Putin if he ever asked?

Everyone knows the Russian Armed Forces is what the American military would look like after ten years of Trumpism, right?

Russia can westernize when they get rid of their leader who has been trying to take down western democracies for decades. Until then, they should be treated like north korea.

His elections will be a sham anyways. Not sure why he'd need to delay them.

Russian "democracy" is what republicans want to turn american democracy into, where the same person stays in power no matter who the country votes for.

Remember the wonderful movie, Wargames? The final scene had a machine point out that for some wars, the only winning move is not to play. Putin should have taken that advice.

"What's left of Ukraine" is more accurate.

Russians are gaining ground on 3 of 4 Southern Spearheads since they began their Easter offensive.

Eastern & Southern spearheads. It's a rather broad front.

Effete,

Americans, in general, don't hate the Russian people,
they hate the Russian leadership. They hate the Russian
form of rule, and the fact that Putin & Co. in the Kremlin
act like bullies on the world stage trying to make 'everyone
afraid of the Big Bad Russian Wolf'...

Well the Big Bad Russian Wolf no longer has many teeth or claws...

And if it is smart at all, instead of being paranoid about a
Western Invasion that will never come, it should be saving what
nukes it still has that work, for a Land Hungry China to its south...
because that is the ONLY THING that will deter 'their Dear Friend'
from invading. Lord knows the Russians don't have the tank power or
the man power anymore to stop China.

If you've studied history at all Effete, you should know,
that the American land grab days are largely done, what it
wants, what it has wanted since the 1980's on, is commerce...

Like Ice Cube said, "it's all about the Benjamin's baby!"
And sadly for America, that remains true...
