Abbott Wants Supreme Court To End Public Education

t this point, it's clear that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott simply wants to rule over a state full of uneducated people. It's bad enough that his state passed a law that generally waters down Black history to the point where the teachings of Martin Luther King Jr. aren't even required. It's bad enough that Texas officials seek to ban books like they're exorcists banning demonic spirits from possessed bodies. (In this case, the demonic spirits are anything that leads to critical thinking and the bodies are all institutions of learning.) Now, it appears that Abbott is toying around with the possibility of eradicating public education in the Lone Star State.

Republicans have been attacking public education for decades.

Now that they control the supremes court.

From what I can tell Abbot wants to quit educating illegals not everyone. While I don't agree with him, ending public schools for illegals is a far cry from ending all public schools.

This would be a big mistake. After several decades, you would have even more people with no formal education. They wouldn't be qualified to do anything. More than just not speaking English. Not being able to do basic math or read a ruler. They wouldn't be able to do trades or really anything. Not sure if Abbott wants to create a slave class of people.

Abbott is pretty clear that he thinks Texas can win in 2022 what they lost in 1982, owing to the ideological makeup of the Supreme Court.

JPW is right. It's not a slippery slope argument. It's a prediction.

It's also a great example of how far right the GOP's Overton Window has moved in the past 40 years.

The GOP has also abandoned any concept of Chesterton's Fence. They're the political equivalent of a malevolent child with a box of matches.

The federal government should fund the education of all school age illegals. That is not a burden to be placed on the tax payers of Tx. Personally, I would like to see publicly funded K-12 + 4 years of post secondary education in public universities and community colleges.
