Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) warned in an interview Saturday that a national ban on abortion is "possible" if the Supreme Court guts Roe v. Wade as it's expected to do - and federal lawmakers then pass a law prohibiting abortion across the country.

So you mean that "abortion should be left up to the states" was just bullsheet after all?

Quelle surprise ... not.

Republicans really want to tear this nation apart, and Mitch and his witches are just the gang to do it.

1) Well, so much for giving abortion back to the States.

2) These abortion laws will be subverted and ignored. Like drug and alcohol laws. Yes, people will go to prison. Including women who were raped by their fathers. There will be decades of pain and suffering. And then, like that, enough of the fascists who believe in this crap will be dead that this abortion hysteria will vanish like rain in the desert.

I don't get the politics of this though. McConnell has to know that most Americans support Freedom to Choose in one form or another and a significant percentage believe strongly in the Freedom to Choose. The Roe overthrow will be extremely divisive in one form but uniting in another (uniting people in opposition to "pro-life"). I can see the backlash of overthrowing Roe as bad for Republicans but even worse if they go for a national ban.

Remember no law is "Pro-Life" if it prioritizes the well being of an unviable fetus over a healthy living woman.

Where is the "less government" crowd?
They seem to disappear when you need them the most.

A ten thousand dollar reward would be nice.

And a great incentive for Putinposer to rein it in.

"There will be decades of pain and suffering."

The war on drugs failed to make us suffer enough.

They are eager to bring back the good old days of Jack booted thugs busting down doors and shooting the family dogs in front of the kids. And now they want to be able to drag the wife in for some thorough questioning and maybe a little transvaginal probing.

What a wonderful wonderful world the maggots wish to create.

A divided world where everyone HAS to carry a gun.

Duh. The "lets states choose" crap was always a lie.

If you think abortion is murder, you could never take the position that it's ok for america to let SOME states kill babies.

Nationwide ban has always been the goal.

"If you think abortion is murder, you could never take the position that it's ok for america to let SOME states kill babies."

Yeah that's a rather obvious, glaring loophole in the logic of "Abortion is murder, therefore let the states decide if it's murder."

I've asked several family members who are excited about what's going on now and I inquired as how they'll feel when California and New York solidly allow abortion rights and even expand those rights and availability.

Still excited about this?

People want what they want. They can pretend they care that it needs to be a state's decision. They're full of ----, however. They just want it banned. At least they think they do.

Yeah that's a rather obvious, glaring loophole in the logic of "Abortion is murder, therefore let the states decide if it's murder."

And it's another reason that abortion bans will probably be total, since is it the zygote's fault if its conception happened due to a criminal act (ie. rape or ------)? How does the criminal conduct of the father take away its rights to be born?

(*I am fully, unconditionally pro choice. This is just an extension of the logic of those actually believing that life begins at conception.)

I've yet to hear someone who wants the law to say "life begins at conception" explain why they'd turn around and support abortion in cases of rape or ------.

Maybe that's because it's such a logically tenuous belief.

If these fetuses over here can be aborted, why not those fetuses over there?

Nobody who opposes Roe can answer.

I'm waiting till the GOP figures out that all the deaths from Covid has resulted in a smaller voting pool to put them back in office. Especially since it effected the red states far more than the blue ones.

All this abortion banning crap is likely to come back to see them again in a way they won't like but the rest of America will.

The bulls*** of "states rights" has always been bulls*** just like every other position of the GQP.

But her emails....

They just want it banned. At least they think they do.

Well off women will still be able to fly off to Mexico or Canada for an abortion. It will be poor women and girls that will be forced to bear the cost of the vocal minority that seek to impose their fluid and arbitrary morality on the rest of the nation. This will result in women dying from pregnancies that could be terminated to save their lives and from coat hanger terminations done in less than sterile conditions.

I doubt a sick soul less --- like McTurtle cares about the unborn any more than he does a blood blister, he just sees this as a tool to keep him in power.

I hope his grave is never dry of urine.

Where is the "less government" crowd?

"Less government" was funded by the billionaires to allow them to pollute the air, water and land freely while simultaneously exploiting employees without recourse. Corporate America is happy with more government when it comes to them getting no-bid contracts, passing laws allowing them to put their competitors out of business or bailing them out for their bad business decisions.

They sold the hicks the notion that if they would allow them to give them cancer they could have a job that pays minimum wage.

No one who's really listened to the anti-choice crowd for any significant time has any doubt that striking down RvW is not the goal. RvW is just a step toward the goal. Making abortion illegal isn't even the end goal. The goal is imposing Christian 'values' on all Americans and making the U.S.A. a de facto theocracy.

@BBQ uhhh no Covid Deaths didn't affect Red States more so than Blue. Out of the top 10 States for Covid deaths ... Only three went for Trump. Among the top 20 it's evenly split between 10 and 10. But thanks again for parroting an untrue talking point to make yourself feel good about the slaughter the Dems will find themselves in come November.

yeah because repubs decided to hide their covid deaths:

acasignups.net
"EXCLUSIVE: "Non-COVID" excess death rates ran 21x higher in reddest counties than bluest in 2021"

There's a thread about it on this site, but your cult is avoiding it like the plague.

"@BBQ uhhh no Covid Deaths didn't affect Red States more so than Blue."

The effect played out differently.
At first, before COVID became widespread, deaths were concentrated in Blue states.
But time, and vaccines, and vaccine rejection by Red states, changed all that.

Nice try chucklehead. Now filter for deaths per 1 million population - you know, an accurate measurement. Whoops!!

1 Mississippi
2 Arizona
3 Alabama
4 West Virginia
5 Tennessee
6 Arkansas
7 New Jersey
8 Louisiana
9 Oklahoma
10 Michigan
