Michael Clarke: Whatever else Russia's Victory Day parade is supposed to represent, it won't be any sort of victory over Ukraine, regardless of the spin President Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin will try to put on it. This war is one that Russia cannot win in any meaningful sense.

Hey, come on. El Feet's 10:25 AM time stamp is in the zone where Rcade goes gathering gator eggs. For El Feet? Personally, I've never been to the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug but I hear it can get wicked dark that late at night this time of year.

A reader in the UK Times dropped this one into the comments section for an article chronicling Putin's colossal failures:

Putin dies and goes to hell , but after a while he is given a day off for good behaviour .
So he goes to Moscow , enters a bar , orders a drink and asks the bartender :
- "Is Crimea ours ?"

- Yes it is .

- " ... & the Donbas ?"

- Also ours .

- " ... & Kyiv ?"

- We got that too .

- Satisfied , Putin drinks and asks ... .

- "Thanks , how much do I owe you ?"

- 5 euros .

And yet Der Dotard has yet to be sanctioned by Vlad. I guess Putin has only so many sanctions to offer, and wants to use them only in a meaningful way, not wasted on loudmouthed criminal grifters who cannot get right a coup...

Don't call it a win yet. The East is drying out. Once it does their current Battle of the Bulge begins in earnest. Russian armor and artillery can begin to maneuver and win battles much easier when they are not trapped on roads.

SITZ @ #8

Sure they are.

So you're saying:

The whole plan was to give Ukraine time to armor up to the teeth with state-of-the-art military equipment provided by the United States and NATO while Russia waited for the mud to dry.

Good plan! ~~ LOL

BTW, somebody is lying to you.

Feels more like you lack an education in the difference between tactics, strategy, and grand strategy. Their initial tactics and strategy failed. That's why they are changing them. The Grand Strategy was always link the Southern coast from Donbass to Transnistria. Taking all of Ukraine is just window dressing, turning it into a landlocked welfare state for the EU is almost as good. The environmental conditions are slowly but surely shifting in Russia's favor. The numbers have always been in their favor and they're trading, at worst, 4 to 1, but realistically 2 to 1. Putin can invoke martial law and grind this out for several more years.

This article smacks of the kinds of works that were seen with the world's leading thinkers of their time trying to predict the end of WW1 just a few months in. Everybody was convinced it could never possibly last more than 1 year, and this is from thinkers so influential we still basic entire economic systems on their works.

The point is, Plan A did not work. Now we move on to even less thoroughly considered alternatives.

Sounds like Sitz is thinking this through. I don't know if he's right or not but it's possible he is.

The West has already said the war is likely to last years.

Too bad your lodestar Putout Putin didn't think it through.

DOC

Too bad Putin didn't notice that $10 Billion had been embezzled from his Defense Fund, too, by his very own Defense Minister, Sergi Shoigu, who had been lying to him about Russia's readiness all along.

(BTW, that same Defense Minister is MIA right now. A report from an Israeli-Russian businessman said Sergi Shoigu suffered from a heart attack NOT of natural causes.)

So much for SITZ "Grand Strategy." WWIII on the cheap! ~ LOL

"Putin can invoke martial law and grind this out for several more years."

Several more?

The Socialists spend a decade in Afghanistan. Mass mobilization would give Putin 2 million military aged males to throw against Ukraine.

Of course, the Socialists gave up in Afghanistan after a decade. It took the west two decades to figure out that victory wasn't possible in AFG.

Putin wins when Ukrainians determine that it is better to live as slaves than die in the pursuit of freedom. That's a decision only they can make.

But to think that Russia wins this? Nope. They've already lost. Any victory they achieve from here on is because the Ukrainians gifted it to them.

Really?

He was at the Victory Day parade on Monday.

Has he gone missing since then?

Or was that actually a body double at the parade?

Maybe a mannequin?

#17 Grandiose much. "Live as slaves, or die in the pursuit of freedom". Yeah right. Die in the pursuit of oligarch enrichment. Die in pursuit of a Nazi paradise without Russian speakers. Die for the freedom to oppress their own people.

This is a war between two ------- countries. Not a Manichian war of good and evil.

That's the whole problem. The propaganda around this is greater than any I've seen in my lifetime. Iraq? Small potatoes. Even the "War on Terror",took a backseat to the hysteria I've seen around this.

Why?

Ukraine is NOT a core US interest. I believe direct military involvement by the US, and or, possibly NATO is coming.

It's stupid and unnecessary. If the Europeans want this war they can have it.

I doubt they have the balls to go at it,without US backing.

Plutonium has a very long half life. 200,000 years or more.

Is "plucky freedom loving Ukraine" worth nuclear winter?

Is any one state worth that?

Why push our luck? First, "Putin is insane". Then, "there's nothing to fear, he's a paper tiger about nukes". Which is it?

The narrative just keeps building toward open war with Russia.

Will Congress even bother to vote on a declaration of war?

Or is an Authorization of Military Force for Biden all they have the stomach for?

Gee, I wonder?

MAD

"He was at the Victory Day parade on Monday."

So he was. And he arrived in great style, too.

I was only repeating what an Israeli businessman told the Daily Mail to explain why the Defense Minister went MIA after Mr. Putin learned of the embezzlement.

I apologize for not being more clear about the questionable source.
