Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, May 15, 2022

A man has opened fire at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York while live-streaming on Twitch, killing at least 10 people and injuring several others, local officials and witnesses say. He also posted an online manifesto in which he described himself as a white supremacist. The incident began on early Saturday afternoon when police were called for an active shooter at Tops Markets at 1275 Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo. Upon arrival, officers found victims on the ground outside the store and others inside the building itself. A 106-page online manifesto, believed to have been uploaded by the shooter, explained that he was motivated by a conspiracy theory that white people are being replaced by other races.

That was NOT an inventory number. The number '14' is a symbol for a White supremacist slogan originating with David Eden Lane, one of the founders of the neo-Nazi group, 'The Order'. Those 14 words are:

Elise Stefanik, the third-ranking House Republican, was called to task last year by a local NY paper over the use of "replacement theory" in campaign ads:

Editorial: How low, Ms. Stefanik?
Times Union Editorial Board
Sep. 17, 2021

Back in 2017, white supremacists marched in Charlottesville, Va., carrying torches and chanting, "You will not replace us" and "Jews will not replace us." Decent Americans recoiled at the undeniable echo of Nazi Germany.

That rhetoric has been resonating ever since in the right wing, repackaged lately in what's known as "replacement theory," espoused by conservative media figures like Fox News' Tucker Carlson. And it has seeped into the mainstream political discourse in the Capital Region, where Rep. Elise Stefanik has adapted this despicable tactic for campaign ads.

The Azov battalion in 2017:

the size of the regiment was estimated at more than 2,500 members,[2] but was estimated to have 900 members in 2022.[24] Members of the battalion came from 22 countries and are of various backgrounds.

In March 2015, a spokesman for the Azov Batallion, told USA Today that only 10% to 20% of the group's members are Nazis.

The Azov Battalion is not Ukraine and does not represent Ukraine any more than the thousands of white supremacists that condone dressing up in battle gear and shooting up grocery stores the serve mostly black communities represent America.

Cheering section' for violence: the attacks that show 4chan is still a threat
www.theguardian.com

...When police in Washington DC burst into a fifth-floor apartment building on 22 April in search of a man who allegedly had shot four people at random, they found Raymond Spencer dead by his own hand, a cache of guns and ammunition, and a poster with an ironic white supremacist meme.

The poster invoking the meme, popular on the extremist online forum 4chan, was a stark reminder that this attack blamed on Spencer, 23, was only the most recent mass casualty attack to spawn out of the ugly extremist culture of unregulated internet message boards such as 4chan.

That particular forum gave birth to QAnon, the far-right conspiracy theory that Donald Trump is combating a cabal of leftist pedophiles, before it moved on to its even-more-extreme cousin 8chan....

Even 8chan's founder, Frederick Brennan, has blamed the site for a rise in mass shootings and unsuccessfully called for it to be shut down.

Brennan quit the site in 2016, leaving management to its new owners: Jim Watkins and his son Ron. The pair, who have since been identified as the likely puppet masters behind QAnon, have rejected more active moderation and have leveraged the site's extreme free speech ethos for their own political ends -- Ron Watkins is currently running in a Republican congressional primary in Arizona....

The idiot was known to have made a threat. The idiot was referred for a mental heath exam. Law enforcement investigated. No charges were filed. The matter was dropped.

... supposedly on a 'no buy list' ...

According to whom? The statutes don't seem to suggest that.

... and yet he got a gun ...

Legally, according to New York state and federal law.

... loads of ammo ...

Legally, according to New York state and federal law.

The legality of the body armor and high capacity magazines, I'm not so sure about. But he hasn't yet been charged with that, so ...

... thus is what is wrong w the U.S. today...

Behaving lawfully? You sure 'bout that?

To preempt the trolls and willfully obtuse, murder with a legally acquired firearm is not within the protection of the Second Amendment, no matter your vision of the individual right to keep and bear arms.

This particular shooting does appear to be purely race related.

Is racism a political or sociological problem?

Blaming all Republicans or conservatives for this sort of crime is pointless.

This story has nothing to do with gun control or Trump.

This boy was mentally ill and my guess is the use of pot exacerbated his mental issues.

This country has a right wing racist white nationalist domestic terrorist problem. Period.

They are already calling him a "lone wolf". Bulls***. This is coordinated hatred and murder and will continue until it is squished out by law enforcement.

In this instance, his racism is a sociopolitical issue based on the Great Replacement conspiracy hypothesis.

Fascists have always exploited and made use of the mentally ill, BILL.

Clean him up a bit and give him a uniform and he would fit right into the SS.

Where do you think the Nazis got those people who rounded up those Jews and minorities, BILL. Sears and Roebuck?

A white supremacist mass killing spree doesn't even make the front page here anymore, because this is the America we live in now.

As reported by ABC News, Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia laid out Gendron's intention to slaughter even more people than the 10 he allegedly murdered over the weekend.

"We have uncovered information that if he escaped the [Tops] supermarket, he had plans to continue his attack," Gramaglia said. "He had plans to continue driving down Jefferson Ave to shoot more Black people... possibly go to another store [or] location."

Police allege that Gendron fatally shot ten people at a Tops Grocery Store in Buffalo Thursday. All of his victims were Black, and investigators also uncovered a racist manifesto he'd written that purported belief in the white supremacist "Great Replacement" conspiracy theory that falsely claims white Americans are deliberately being replaced by people of color.

Has Gendron been invited to speak at CPAC yet?

"murder with a legally acquired firearm"

Was it really legally acquired, seeing as he acquired it for the purpose of murder?

Exactly my point in #18:

Dear White Supremacists,
There's no way they can stop you from doing this.

I wonder if a 10 day waiting period may have helped here. I know I did some crazy stuff as an 18 year old. I don't know because he took time to write a manifesto. I'm definitely thinking that from 18 to 21 you should only be able to own Shotguns and bolt action style deer rifles. If you want to shoot something more join the Army.

Snoofy there isn't yet but I hope the tide turns and common sense wins out. As a gun owner I have no issue with something like a six Rd max capacity.

The point is the LAW is seriously F**KED UP.

The point is that the "invisible hand" of "free enterprise" where people die because of bad corporate decisions taints the corporation is --------, and excusing the murder of people as "the cost of freedom" and of "acting legally" is inexcusable and it is --------,

Shoot back. White People have been doing their utmost to keep everybody not white unarmed since 1619, and when somebody comes to kill you for the color of your skin in this country, it's usually a white person.

Someone did.

Apparently only a good guy in body armor can stop a bad guy in body armor.

#109 | Posted by Zed at 2022-05-16 09:59 AM | Reply

Yup. Shoot back. So now we all have to carry guns and wear body armor to go pick up some bread and milk.

Thanks a lot. We sure made America "great" again. Like in old Wild West. Only worse.
