Mark Joseph Stern on Ted Cruz's victory at the Supreme Court allowing no limits the amount of money a candidate can get refunded from his or her own campaign: It is difficult to avoid the conclusion that--as Justice Elena Kagan put it in her furious and mournful dissent--Monday's decision will "bring this country's political system into further disrepute."

The revenge of the Right after they lost control of the direction of the country as the Vietnam War became unpopular and crowds of everyday People marched for peace in the streets.... was to make the long held laws against bribing politicians legal for the first time.

First in 1978 via a Nixon SC appointee, and then expanding and solidifying legal bribery in Citizens United in 2010.

If rwingers weren't so busy trying to "own the libs", they might even realize that they are actually against this kind of crony capitalism.

Offer them bazookas and forced birth, and they'd prolly give up big money BRIBES in politics and universal healthcare, which would benefit them greatly.

And they might even go along with recognizing that the planet is for whatever reason warming if you gave them free red hats.

The GOP went down the rabbit hole with the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Sensing an opportunity to peel away white "yellow dog Democrats" in the South, they went for it. And sold their souls to the single most ignorant and revanchist area of the country. Quite the bargain.

Hmmmm this political hack, that was put not he SC, has no place to complain. The ruling was correct, rather than have to forfeit money lent to your campaign you can now retrieve all of it. If it had failed candidates would have been limited and it would have kept many form running for office. Kudos to the justices that were smart enough to see this as the blatant attempt to control who runs for office.. Karan is incompetent and does not deserve her position on the court.

As opposed to the Democrats, who limit the cost to 40 billion $$$$ for their own scorched earth campaign.

Money doesn't grow on trees, but it can still be readily manufactured to control consent.

Kagan needs to write an opposing opinion to right wing hack Alito's opinion on Ror v Wade. Far more important than protecting the very weak laws govening campaign finance.
