As Russia continues to hide the scale of its losses in Ukraine, more and more information has leaked out, angering the families of Russian soldiers and discouraging even previous supporters of the invasion. In a rare condemnation of Kremlin policy on a political talk show, defence columnist Mikhail Khodaryonok suggested that the government was in denial about the war and the chance for victory against highly motivated Ukrainian forces armed by the west.

"The main deficiency of our military-political position is that, in a way, we are in full geopolitical isolation and that, however much we would hate to admit this, virtually the entire world is against us," he said. "And it's that situation we need to escape."

But Russia has continued to cover up or minimise its losses during a disastrous three-month campaign in Ukraine.

A month after the sinking of the Moskva, the Russian government has only confirmed the death of one crew member and said another 27 were missing. But the families of crew members say that the death toll could be as high as 200, and many have not received any confirmation about what happened to their husbands, brothers, and sons.

On Monday, the Ukrainian government also released new data claiming that Russia's 1st Guards Tank Army lost a staggering 131 tanks in just the first three weeks of the war, one of the bloodiest periods of combat for the Russian army.

Do svidaniya comrades cannon fodder.

Along this line, the perspective put into the public sphere by commentator and former military officer (retired as a colonel after nearly 30 years service) Mikhail Khodaryonok seem especially significant (although precisely how so remains to be seen): "Russian People Surprised to Find Out Ukraine War Not Going Well on State TV" (

The Russian crew that were the 8 time gold medalists from the "Tank Olympics" (Tank Biathlon hosted by Russia), died in a Javelin induced fire about a month ago.

I will believe the Russians will overthrow Putin once it happens. He seems to have both the military and the oligarchs by the balls. A lot of systemic pressure from within the base of power not to change course unless forced.

Putin expected the war to be over in under 72 hours and has already lost soldiers faster than any European country since WWII.

His plan to takeover 100% of Ukraine has been reduced to maybe 15% of Ukraine and he's still losing....hard.
