Rs will not care about "unintended consequences." Overturning Roe will fire up the base and that's all they care about.

#1: I think that sums it up. The vast majority of right wingers do not give a damn about unborn fetuses. They just want something to use as a political lever and rally the base.

Plus the Republicans have been promising this to the religious right for years.

"...fire up the base..."

Yeah...looks like they might've fired up the wrong base.

Haha! I know, right?! I should stay in my lane. I like to write because it makes me clarify my own thoughts. Frankly, I have reversed my position on the right to abortion over the years as unplanned pregnancy has become a diminishing risk to me personally. I consider myself to be a civil libertarian in the tradition of John Stuart Mill. I've voted D, R, and (one time) L. When I was younger, I was generally more supportive of liberal policies, including the right to abortion. A few years ago, I was offended by the Hobby Lobby employee health insurance decision. Now my thinking has evolved. As I've grown older, I've become more moderate. WRT abortion, I favor a debate rooted in secular bioethics vs one that stems from supposed privacy or personal choice rights. Practically, the correlation between declining birth rate and declining economic growth suggests we should all want, from a macroeconomic perspective, to encourage more births. Discouraging abortion would be a good way to do that. Plus, if we had more babies, there would be more young people. If more young people thought like I did when I was younger, they could have the voting power to push through their own pro-abortion laws. Bit of a catch-22 there. That's some catch.

Wow, so women's freedom means less to you than sustaining the economy.

If you want to encourage more births you're free to make yourself attractive to women seeking a donor.

It's a pyramid scheme. Gotta bring in a dozen more to get your cut.

Folks, we went forth and multiplied, we fullfilled our obligation.

I've become more moderate.

Rightwing tool calls itself a moderate.

Just another day on the DR.

Have you posted here under any other name(s)? If so, which one(s)?

Just making a logical argument of limited scope, Snoopy. It is a utilitarian argument for the greater good. However, It's tangential to my core argument that bioethics trump choice.

"It is a utilitarian argument for the greater good."

Yep. You're a eugenicist.

Explain that. I don't understand how you got there.

"Just making a logical argument of limited scope"

Limited scope to what, exactly? Human freedom.

Utilitarianism also has trouble accounting for values such as justice and individual rights. For example, assume a hospital has four people whose lives depend upon receiving organ transplants: a heart, lungs, a kidney, and a liver. If a healthy person wanders into the hospital, his organs could be harvested to save four lives at the expense of one life. This would arguably produce the greatest good for the greatest number. But few would consider it an acceptable course of action, let alone the most ethical one.

Oh I see your profile says you are a Liberal Democrat. That's clearly a lie.

What purpose do you think it serves, to just come here and tell lies while pretending to be a Liberal Democrat? I'd really love to know.

Many who have not read Mill misunderstand the centrality of the Harm Principle to utilitarian thought. Harm to the individual should always be an overriding concern.

your profile says you are a Liberal Democrat

He's following in the footsteps of OneNut.

Cultists rarely display individual thought.

When they do, they get ousted.

This is today's Republican Party.

Sorry, am I supposed to echo the party line? Is that what this forum is about? I thought we were discussing our opinions not parroting the party line. Will Rogers said, "Democrats can't agree on anything. If they could agree on everything, they'd be Republicans."

It wasn't when you wanted to end the right to choose, to sustain Capitalism.

I checked my DR profile, which I have not looked at since creating it in Jan 2017. It says, "Party: Democrat, Ideology: Libertarian" just as I said above. Don't let your partisan outrage interfere with your reading comprehension.
