Dwight Eisenhower, in the run-up to D-Day - a thoroughly-planned, magnificently executed plan that was still a close call - that American troops absolutely needed to be informed about what they were being ordered to do, especially when carrying out those orders meant them possibly getting killed. What's the objective? Why are we doing this? The troops didn't get to vote on plans, but them not buying into one undercut the chances of the plan succeeding. You have to respect the people you're putting in harm's way. Otherwise ... well, just look at the Russian army's miserable performance in Ukraine. They're abandoning armored vehicles and stealing cars to try and get somewhere, anywhere else. Bravo, Vlad, bravo.

I'm waiting breathlessly for the news reports.
