An attorney familiar with the Meadows and Scavino cases told CNN they were not surprised by the Justice Department's decision. They argued that both men had engaged the committee, and that unlike Navarro and Steve Bannon, who have both been indicted, Scavino and Meadows had serious claims of privilege.

Hopefully privilege had no role to play in the decision making otherwise it would make it possible for past deeds by presidents more difficult to uncover.

Having executive privilege reside in the office for only the sitting president is a GREAT deterrent for presidents to run their offices on the up-and-up. Otherwise, their misdeeds could go undiscoverable and therefore unpunished (if warranted).

The fact that DOJ released its decision on Meadows and Scavino on the same day that Navarro was indicted suggests that they have been sitting on the decision; waiting for the proper time to release it. If they were waiting, WHY were they waiting? Could it have anything to do with the fact that the Jan 6 Committee was wrapping ups its investigation and there would be less time for the committee to object? The DOJ has some explaining to do.

Finally, if congress wants to preserve its oversight role, they need to enforce their own subpoenas via civil contempt or their inherent contempt powers. In the interim, they need to drag Garland into its chambers for a thorough examination of why they did what they did.

It is vital that people be held accountable for their misdeeds; if not by the current administration then by a succeeding administration. It is the best way to keep the scoundrels honest.

If Meadows and Scavino were targets of DOJ's GJ inquiry, as some TV legal eagles have suggested, would that have appeared in the letter? Meadows was clearly up to his ears in the coup. The privilege argument should hold no water.

Being a member of the congressional "club" still gets you a "Get Out Of Jail Free" card, it seems.

Two other theories that I have heard as to why they weren't indicted are 1) they will be charged with more severe crimes and 2) they are cooperating with the DOJ.

#10 - a third theory of the case, the bloated orange bag of puss issued them both blanket pocket pardons, and DOJ is aware of them. As DOJ moves up the ladder in their investigation, I fear they will run into many of these, hell he offered one to Conway, and all she did was lie her ass off to the media wither alternative facts. I have a feeling that in the final days of his reign of error, Dotard handed pardons out like party favors to the upper eachaolons of the coup, and DOJ has to decide if they can be challenged in court.
