Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, June 10, 2022

Like 9/11, Jan. 6 needs no year attached to convey its dark place in American history. On that Wednesday afternoon, 64 days after Election Day 2020, a mob of supporters of President Donald J. Trump assaulted the Capitol, resulting in what Vice President Mike Pence had refused to do: disrupting the ceremonial certification of the electoral votes confirming that Joseph R. Biden Jr. would be the next president of the United States.

At its heart is a grievance-filled, insecure president, unable to face the fact of his defeat, working with a cabal of loyalists in and out of government to pursue an evolving plan that unfolded in successive chapters, each in effect taking aim at a pillar of democracy.

There was a failed legal strategy that clogged the courts with fantastical conspiracy theories. It was followed by a plot to twist the Justice Department into backing Mr. Trump's repeated lie that the election had been rigged and stolen from him, and consideration of proposals that he direct the military or the Homeland Security Department to seize voting machines.

Those were followed by a strong-armed attempt to subvert the Electoral College process and bludgeon Mr. Pence into taking part, all leading to the violent effort to keep Congress from formally affirming Mr. Trump's loss on Jan. 6.

Taken as a whole, the narrative that has emerged - elements of which the House select committee on Jan. 6 will begin setting out on Thursday evening in the first of a series of hearings - is as chilling as it is audacious.

Welcome to the open public trial of Donald J. Trump vs. The United States of America, aka the U.S. Constitution.

Donald Trump is a traitor who attempted to overthrow the US Constitution. Put him on trial.

This IS a trial - in the court of public opinion - which will set the stage for whatever happens next.

And the prosecutors are painting quite a damning scenario of facts and evidence showing the obvious criminal culpability of the former POTUS.

A synopsis of last evenings public session by the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th attack on the Capital, from my buddy, an ex-Army intel officer, who lives back in DC:

What did the public learn (not opinions or speculation, just the facts).

Trump was fully aware he lost the election. The Attorney General and many others provided him the information.

Trump refused to listen and insisted on pursuing the stolen election lie and action to have it overturned.

Video testimony from leaders of several of the radical groups showed they were present because Trump asked them to come to DC.

Several expected Trump would march with them to the Capitol.

The Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers had meetings to discuss the assault. Weapons were held in Virginia in case they were needed to take over other Federal buildings.

The Proud Boys moved down the Mall to the Capitol two hours before Trump spoke at the Ellipse.

There was nothing spontaneous about the breach of the Capitol.

The Proud Boys encouraged and led the crowd Trump sent after them to assault the Capitol and led the break in.

Regardless of appeals from key aides, Republicans in Congress and his family (Ivanka) Trump took no action to dissuade the mob, and yelled at those who asked him to do so.

He sat and watched it all unfold on TV and ran back the videos several times to watch his favorite parts of the attack.

When Trump saw the crowd was chanting "hang Mike Pence" , he commented, "Maybe he deserves it."

At no time did Trump contact any authorities (Pentagon, DHS, etc.) to take any action to stop the attack.

General Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, said Pence ordered the Pentagon to commit the National Guard. This raises the question as to who was "Commander in Chief" at that moment.

Milley said later Meadows, Trump's Chief of Staff tried to get him to say Trump gave the order for the Guard. Milley refused.

"The videos were compelling. The evidence was damning. But the most emotionally compelling moments in the first hearing came from Caroline Edwards, a Capitol Police officer and the first law enforcement officer injured by the rioters.

It will be hard to forget the image she painted, as she spoke haltingly about "slipping in people's blood."

"It was something like I'd seen out of movies. I couldn't believe my eyes," she said. "There were officers on the ground. You know, they were bleeding. They were throwing up. I mean I saw friends with blood all over their faces. I was slipping in people's blood. You know, I was catching people as they fell. It was carnage. It was chaos. ... I can't even describe what I saw. I never in my wildest dreams did I think that as a police officer, as a law enforcement officer, I would find myself in the middle of a battle."

Good thing we don't live in a Democracy @Speaksoftly again, we live in a Democratic-Republic. If going into 2022 and 2024 all the left is going to do is harp on and on about January 6th, the Democrats deserve the wipeout that's coming their way.

The Democrats should have focused on inflation instead. But this showboating only goes to show the tone deafness that currently is the Democratic Party.

The more new video that comes out, the more harrowing we realize the insurrection was for the police who confronted that angry, violent mob:

"GET THESE -------------, WE'RE COMING THROUGH!"

Brand-new Jan. 6 footage filmed by Capitol rioter Nolan Cooke, who was just sentenced to one year and a day in prison. This evidence was released at the request of @NBCNews through the media coalition pushing for transparency.

If Americans decide to reinstall Trumpy and his insurrectionists to power then all of America will get exactly what it deserves.

America always gets the government they deserve.

... the left ...

What a pathetic deluded man. This is how to tell someone that you're completely oblivious to what's going on right in front of your eyes without stating so exactly.

The case against Trump and all the Republicans who empowered his megalomania isn't being told by Democrats, it's being told by the very Republicans he picked to surround himself within both his Administration and White House. It's the Republicans' and staffers' words and impressions that will damn him and insure that he will be held accountable for his perfidy - never sniffing any more chances to further abuse the public trust he already criminally eviscerated.

The next story to be clearly made is the one about Trump's own Cabinet trying to organize within itself to invoke the 25th Amendment immediate removal of Donald Trump for both his instigation of the violent attack on the Capitol by his called-in supporters - hundreds upon hundreds marching with "Trump" flags and then dozens more draping huge ones over the walls and facades of the Capitol - making exactly clear why they were there in that moment, and with whom their allegiance and loyalty lied.

Democrats are not damning Trump at all, it's totally Republicans telling their whole truth in honor and respect for the U.S. Constitution to which they all swore allegiance to as they watched the President from their own party dishonor and violate his own oath in service of only himself.

So keep lying to yourself Reggie. Apparently just like in A Few Good Men, you simply can't handle the truth and the truth is that the daughter of a conservative icon is leading the case against Trump, not because he's a Republican, but because he's a cancer on this society whose corrosive influence needs to be removed once and for all in order for this republic to survive.

The smoking gun is the sworn testimony of Ivanka, AG Barr, and other close aides that Trump was well aware that he lost the election long before 1/6, and the DOJ's documented threat to quit if Trump kept insisting they lie about the results of the election.

The Big Lie was born, and fools followed Dear Leader as he directed his lawyers to make ---- up, which ---- was laughed out of 60 plus Courts, called "--------" by AG on film, and Homeland Sec said at the time it was, "the cleanest election in decades".

Now they ignore the facts, including all the sworn to and documented planning by lawyers and aides to commit criminal acts by "finding votes" and attempting to delay the transfer of power by disrupting what was really just a ceremony.

Of course, these cowards won't even examine the evidence because, as they have admitted, they don't really care about the law and the Constitution.... only about the Narrative.

They are indeed poor excuses for Americans.

...when you can show me the smoking gun on a directed order from Trump and Trump admin officials directing the crowd to commit a coup I'll gladly say I was wrong. None of you can and you never will be able to.

That isn't and never has been the standard that determines whether Donald Trump committed crimes against this nation and our Constitution. Your viewpoint is completely irrelevant as matters of both law and fact.

Trump is facing multiple criminal charges that have nothing to do with storming the capital. Again, you're an ignoramus who is too ignorant to comprehend all that you don't know. By the end of the hearings, these are all the facts and evidence for which Trump will be judged - both in future courts and in the immediate court of public opinion.

1. President Trump engaged in a massive effort to spread false and fraudulent information to the American public claiming the 2020 election was stolen from him.

2. President Trump corruptly planned to replace the Acting Attorney General, so that the Department of Justice would support his fake election claims.

3. President Trump corruptly pressured Vice President Pence to refuse to count certified electoral votes in violation of the US Constitution and the law.

4. President Trump corruptly pressured state election officials, and state legislators, to change election results.

5. President Trump's legal team and other Trump associates instructed Republicans in multiple states to create false electoral slates and transmit those slates to Congress and the National Archives.

6. President Trump summoned and assembled a violent mob in Washington and directed them to march on the US Capitol.

7. As the violence was underway, President Trump ignored multiple pleas for assistance and failed to take immediate action to stop the violence and instruct his supporters to leave the Capitol.

Have at it Tiger, that's a whole slew of lawbreaking for which Trump's own people will indict him. You have no earthly idea how screwed Trump is by his own words and actions finally being placed in their proper illegal context.

Can't read Reg? Trump's own people are already on record - UNDER OATH - that he DID give direct orders or attempt to issue criminally illegal orders! This is already documented from testimony given by the people in Trump's own Administration who he gave or tried to give the illegal orders to.

It's already been done. Go back up and try to understand what the 7 points above actually mean. The Committee isn't hoping that these things happened, they have the evidence that these things happened.

I realize your feeble mind isn't wired to understand linear progression logic much less spatial concepts. But it's obvious to the blind that this committee has all the receipts needed to prove what we all saw clearly as it's been happening: The lie Trump keeps repeating that he was a victim of fraud and actually won the 2020 election lies as the foundation of every single criminal act later spawned. And Trump continues to confirm his own guilt every single day since the lie started.

Criminal statutes define the elements that must be proven. Not what you think must be proven.

Here are three potential criminal offenses that apply to the Buffoon, two federal and one state. They are broken down by each individual element that must be proven with an outline of known evidence regarding each element. None of the elements include that "he gave a direct order." None. www.scribd.com

The January 6th Hearings: A Criminal Evidence Tracker By Noah Bookbinder, Norman L. Eisen, Fred Wertheimer, Jason Powell, Debra Perlin and Colby Galliher An Introduction to the three Criminal Evidence Trackers below is available at Just Security.

Criminal Evidence Tracker 1: Whether Donald Trump Conspired to Defraud the United States By Norman Eisen, Noah Bookbinder, Fred Wertheimer, Jason Powell and Debra Perlin

18 U.S. Code 371 " Conspiracy to commit offense or to defraud the United States
It is a criminal offense "[i]f two or more persons conspire either to commit any offense against the United States, or to defraud the United States, or any agency thereof in any manner or for any purpose, and one or more of such persons do any act to effect the object of the conspiracy."

Elements of the Crime that Must be Proved Facts and Evidence:

1. Two or more people entered into an agreement Donald Trump and John Eastman

  • Attorney John Eastman communicated with Trump by phone and email through his assistant or agent about a plan
to overturn the election results memorialized in two memoranda (here and here). A court recently found that "there was likely an agreement between President Trump and Dr. Eastman to enact a plan articulated" in the two memos. Donald Trump and Jeffrey Clark
  • In December 2020, Trump and Clark met in apparent violation of DOJ and White House policy to discuss
allegations of election fraud and find ways to overturn the election results.
  • Unlike the rest of DOJ's leadership, Clark was sympathetic to Trump's arguments, leading Trump to consider installing Clark as acting Attorney General - a plan Trump only abandoned in the face of threats of massive DOJ and White House counsel resignations.
    Donald Trump and Mark Meadows
  • Meadows appears to have played a key role in orchestrating the agreements and advancing Trump's plans with both 2 of 12 Clark and Eastman by (1) introducing Trump to Clark and repeatedly emailing DOJ leadership to investigate bogus
fraud claims; (2) encouraging state legislators to embrace Eastman's alternate slate of electors strategy; and (3) sending Pence's staff a memo with a plan for Pence reject electoral votes from battleground states. The actions of
all three men " Trump, Eastman, and Clark " appeared to work in concert with Meadows to help form the agreement.
  • Meadows also helped organize and participated in the January 2, 2021, phone call where Trump demanded that
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger "find" enough votes to overturn the election.

It goes on as Et Al clearly and plainly stated.

Why didn't they allow the Republicans to pick their own Representatives for the committee.

Seems to me they picked 5 but 2 were rejected?

As Yav confirmed, there's nothing wrong with the link. What's wrong is that whatever the Reginald persona is, he isn't an honest, interested, and certainly not a factually-informed or oriented individual.

He has zero to offer of substance and even less that isn't the simple regurgitation of whatever nonsense he's found in the cesspools of disinformation and propaganda he appears to frequent based on his vacuous partisanly-directed lamentations.

Simply GIGO, no more, no less.

@Tony keep blabbering I'm looking forward to the coming weeks and months when absolutely nothing happens to Trump or anyone in his admin and again the November political wipeout that's for your ilk.

Have fun thinking this will be the time it happens. We already sat through 4 years, countless grand jury's, a $32MM investigation that didn't produce anything with Mueller, 2 pointless impeachment hearings. You didn't get him any of those times and again you won't get him this time. Cope fren, cope.

Those the Republicans picked were, and are, likely to be indicted.

They could have selected others. They insisted on criminals with a direct interest in sabotaging the investigation. The sane world, mysteriously, objected.

Hey, and know what? I am.

My prediction three years ago was that Trump will off himself rather than face trial. I still think that.

    - that didn't produce anything with Mueller,

    More lies, same dufus.

The Republican lead Sen Report picked up where Mueller left off...

"No Hoax': Bipartisan Senate Report Confirms Russian 2016 Role, Putin Ordered DNC Hack, More

The report also found that several top members of the 2016 Trump campaign staff posed grave national security risks to the U.S. over their ties to Russia, including Trump's former 2016 campaign chair, Paul Manafort, who was a "grave counterintelligence threat" due to his contacts with a Russian intelligence officer."

Hitler blew his own brains out rather than be publicly humiliated.

It takes an awful lot for a malignant narcissist such as Trump to kill himself, but we have precedent.

When he's dead, he DOES NOT get to lie in state in the Capitol.

More evidence of Trump's lawbreaking in the hands of the Committee:

Pence Aide Warned Against Blocking Electoral College Count, Memo Shows

Former Vice President Mike Pence's chief counsel laid out in a memo the day before Jan. 6, 2021, that the vice president would violate federal law if he bowed to pressure from President Donald J. Trump to interfere with the certification of Joseph R. Biden Jr.'s victory.

The three-page memo, obtained by Politico and confirmed as authentic by The New York Times, included arguments from the chief counsel, Greg Jacob, that Mr. Pence could find himself in a legally precarious situation if he decided to block the certification of the Electoral College results either unilaterally or by calling for a 10-day delay in the proceedings.

Too bad Reg can't (refuses to) read the lineup of potential criminal charges facing Trump now under investigation. This is one of them with both documented evidence and named witnesses who can be called to court for on-the-record corroboration of a specific crime.

Yeah, nothing to see here, right Reg?

@Zed do you ever share any of these thoughts you have with a mental health professional? If not you should and I would do so sooner rather than later.

@Tony and what's so new and compelling than the other 50 times I mentioned, where the Left swore that this would be the time you took him down. You're all loons on the farm and refuse to accept the reality of the situation that nothing is going to happen.

I mean look at W and Cheney, they killed a million Iraqi's and now the Left loves them. Again keep blabbering ... bend over as November is just around the corner ;D

    Trump lied, people died.

Either you are dumb enough to believe Trump over his AG, the DOJ, the DHS, 60+ Courts... and his daughter, that he knew he had lost the election long before 1/6, or you are traitor enough not to care.

    Which is it?

@Corky I'm neither, I just see reality for what it is. But it's okay you'll all be let down for the 50th time. It just won't hurt as bad as the first time it did with Mueller Report.

Also piss poor attempt to recycle the Bush lied people died mantra from 06-08. Womp Womp.

I do have one question... who ties your shoes for you?

Reality is that your Dear Leader has lied to his troops about the election... and you are either to stupid to know that or too soulless to care.

Of course, in your case, both of those things could be true.

    #70 | Posted by Corky at 2022-06-12 01:07 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

No one ties them, I either wear Vans slip ons or monk strap dress shoes depending on the occasion.

Probably too soulless to care, which I'm fine with. I'm still right on what will happen. You want to know why? Because I'm a realist, I don't allow emotions to play into my thought process in matters of politics. I simply use logic and logic tells me ... If W and Cheney can kill 1 Million Iraqis whilst the left calls for war crimes against them and a decade later the Left is giving the O face down south on each of them ... Jack ---- will happen to Trump.

    The end.

... I just see reality for what it is.

Black on White? More apropos for this site Black on Baby S**t Yellow? I, and I think most, see reality as many shades of Gray.

I can see your end reality, the Buffoon escapes. The reality of the process is where I suspect we differ. There I see many shades of Gray.

I see a reality of probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. More specifically, probable cause to seek an indictment. That reality relies on the information at the link at #52 as well as this memo. www.justsecurity.org

Yet, I'm not a federal prosecutor much less the Attorney General at whose feet the decision to seek resides. I don't envy that position.

The gravity faced by AG Levi comes to mind.

    A very salient point.

Just days ago even widely viewed progressives like David Shuster continue to repeat the "official" 9/11 narrative in lieu of independent research. The Iraq's oil, Afghanistan's opium, every invasion results in a privatization schema. Hell, even the invasions are outsourced for profit. Trillions alone spent in abandoned PMB's, caches of money and weapons - it's like a contractors playland, but the real crime are the prices!

Fox injecting the confusing idea of Bush and Cheney or any of their goons as periodically "beloved" by the left is precisely the form of counter-thinking that is required for traumatic mass delusion to be sustained for so many years. Bush even recently gaffed all over the veil, and nobody seemed to write love letters.. Cheney emerged from it's gestation chamber? Is it completed so early?

That's obviously true. But then, it doesn't exclude the ignorance of "thinking" that wrongs in Iraq make believing Trump's lies and excusing his insurrection a legitimate rational position.
