This time, they plan to win -- The danger to US democracy didn't end on 6 January -- his followers are now ripping up the safeguards that foiled them

"But here's why these current hearings should be regarded less as a past judgment than a future warning.

On 6 January, the determination of the pro-Trump forces to subvert a democratic election was not in doubt. They failed only because enough restraints were in place to thwart them, whether it was state-level election officials determined to count the votes, and count them fairly, or a court system that threw out wholly groundless claims of electoral fraud.

But 2024 will not be the same as 2020. Because Republicans have been busy.

Methodically and across the US, Republicans have been working to dismantle the guardrails that keep American democracy on track.

In 2021 alone, at least 19 Republican-ruled states passed measures whose official purpose was tackling (nonexistent) voter fraud but whose practical effect will be voter suppression, making it harder for low-income and minority Americans in particular to cast a ballot " and those efforts are continuing.

More alarmingly, several Republican state legislatures have sought to put themselves or their allies in charge of what used to be non-partisan election machinery, installing Republicans " including "stop the steal" Trump loyalists " in the offices where votes get counted and certified.

Worse, there are moves to make state legislatures the sole authority over elections, cutting out the courts altogether: so the Republicans who dominate, say, the Wisconsin legislature could decide that they and they alone will allocate the state's electoral votes, regardless of who Wisconsin's citizens actually voted for.

Rerun 2020 in this new, altered environment and states that held firm in 2020, giving Biden the victory he had legitimately won, could hand power in 2024 to the loser."

Ramzi Yousef was arrested for bombing the WTC, February 26, 1993. He was subsequently flown over the World Trade Center during processing in a helicopter and they opened the blinds to the window and showed him that he had failed and it was still standing.

Yousef was not fazed. He replied that if he had more money it would not be.

And now (after a billionaire stepped up to the plate) the WTC is history.

Oh Corky ... the paranoia runs deep for those of you on the left. It won't be everything you listed above that costs the left the 2024, 2028, and most likely 2032 elections. It will be because of the wacky things the far left did in the summer of 2020 that lead to soft on crime policies and further more the absolute incompetent handling of the economy by Democrats. Anyways ... 2024 the R's have a pretty solid potential for a super majority in the Senate and the right will course correct many things that have gone wrong over the last few years in this country. The pendulum simply is swaying back the other way and will most likely stay there till the Republican's screw something up.

You have no argument to the facts... statements sworn under oath about Trump knowing his Big Lie is false, about the Proud Boys he told to Stand By leading the ground troops, and his own DOJ threatening to resign rather than lie for him.

Last night was only the indictment. There'll be weeks more evidence that you won't watch and that you also won't have any valid argument to the facts.

All you will ever have is obfuscations and nonsense... mainly because that's all you are capable of.

This is just setting the table for the upcoming criminal indictment of your hero, you know, the Traitor in Chief.

@Corky correction ... There'll be weeks more evidence that America won't watch. 18MM less than Biden's State of the Union last night and I fully expect those numbers to trend downward.

Again show me anyone who has been charged with Treason and that will settle this. You can't and that's the hardest acknowledgement you'll ever have to make.

"show me the actual proof where there was a plot to over throw the Government. Show me all the conspirators who were charged by the Government with Treason."

Why would it have to rise to Treason?

Seditious Conspiracy already IS "a plot to overthrow the government".

The legal definition of Seditious Conspiracy begins:

"If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States..."

OVERTHROW GOVERNMENT UNITED STATES. Right there.

These trials haven't happened yet, so we don't know if they will be found guilty or not:

DOJ charges Proud Boys leaders with seditious conspiracy over Jan. 6 attack

The Justice Department has charged leaders of the Proud Boys " the pro-Trump extremist group that played a central role in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack " with conspiring to use force to oppose the presidential transfer of power.

The seditious conspiracy charges, announced in a grand jury indictment returned Monday, escalate the case against the Proud Boys and their leader Enrique Tarrio, who now face some of the most severe charges related to the attack on the Capitol. The Justice Department unveiled similar seditious conspiracy charges against an anti-government militia group, the Oath Keepers and their leader Stewart Rhodes, in January 2022.

Wrong.

Jan. 6 committee chair says panel won't provide DOJ unilateral' access - 05/17/22

"If they want to come in and say we want to look at something, that's fine. But my understanding is they want to have access to our work product. And we told them no, we're not giving that to anybody," Thompson told reporters Tuesday evening.

"I mean, the reality is, we are conducting our own investigation. And obviously if they want to come and talk, they're perfectly welcome to come and talk, and we have talked to them on other situations, but we can't give them full access to our product. That would be premature at this point, because we haven't completed our own work."

The whole point of this committee was to produce the smoking gun that Trump orchestrated this and that smoking gun is no where to be found.

Wrong again.

In the days following the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, lawmakers began to discuss the need for an investigation focused on what led to the attack, how the building was breached so easily and how any similar event could be prevented from happening again.

House Democrats then decided to create a special investigative committee, and the House passed a resolution establishing one on a 220-to-190 vote on June 30, with two Republicans joining Democrats in voting in favor of the panel.

The Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol was born.

The task of wading through this torrent of information has been divided among five teams that the committee initially put together for its staff of about 40:

*One team, dubbed "Inside the Fence," is devoted to understanding the preparation and response to the event by federal and local law enforcement.

*A second, called "follow the money," is examining the funding for demonstrations against the election results.

*A third is investigating online misinformation and extremist activity.

*A fourth is looking at the pressure campaigns in Washington and in state capitols to overturn election results or delay certification of electors.

*A fifth team is focused on the organizers of the demonstrations on the National Mall and at the Capitol.

www.washingtonpost.com

Nowhere in the above is any charge to do anything but compile evidence and then create a narrative from said evidence and testimony that addresses the charges given the 5 separate investigative teams.

Spoken by an ignoramus who obviously 1) Hasn't seen the videos taken by the insurgents themselves and by other filmmakers embedded with the terrorist groups now facing seditious conspiracy charges that shows them actually conspiring on the night before January 6th along with all the captured communications between charged members outlining the tactics, targets and objectives for the attack on the Capitol in their own words; 2) Realized that those who've already pled guilty in court are testifying against the others now facing prosecution for the same crimes.

The totality of evidence against these defendants is massive and they are unlikely to be found not guilty by DC juries who had to live through the nightmare of the terror attacks themselves.

There will be no Treason charges. None. Not because "it's a loser." The reason there will be no Treason charges is simple. The actions of the participants on J6, even in the worst light, do not fit the definition of Treason i.e. waging war against the US or adhering to enemies engaged in such a war. www.law.cornell.edu

@Tony so where was any of that last night?

That's entirely what the evening was comprised of - a recitation of who did what and why they did it - which multiple people said was Trump's call to come to DC - along with the personal experiences of one of the police officers who was injured during hand-to-hand "combat" as the criminals did it.

You obviously didn't watch the hearing. The only person who said the word "Republican" was Liz Cheney when she admonished those in her party for tying themselves to the criminality of 1/6 in service of Donald Trump's lie - something you continue to fail in discussing because it lies as the central fulcrum on which everything else happened.

1/6 was an assault on the Capitol building that injured 150 police officers and resulted in 5 officers losing their lives in the aftermath. And the people who committed these crimes did so because they believed a lie told by the man who called them together in the first place even though those closest to him told him that he was broadcasting a lie when saying he lost the election fraudulently.

That is what last night was about.

I didn't see a plot to overthrow the Government ...

Only because you refuse to see one. Trump did not lose the election due to fraud. Him repeatedly saying so is the foundation of seditious conspiracy because he's fraudulently trying to remain President by force when the courts shut him out, his own DOJ shut him out, and his own family shut him out.

The mob stopping Congress from doing its job was a crime in and of itself, and Trump TOLD the crowd to go to the Capitol and do just that.

Just wait, what you don't know will be make clear in the coming hearings - and most all of the pertinent testimony is going to come from REPUBLICANS and those who worked for Trump. You'll nary hear a Democrat say anything but recitations of what Republicans have either said or left evidence of in their own right.

Not every Republican is a criminal, but anyone who followed Trump's orders and believed in his Big Lie are indeed culpable for their actions. You keep acting as though staying President even though he had no constitutional or legal right to the office after 1/20/21 isn't a coup or crime. That is precisely what it is.

Note that some of them have ties to Stone:

Three Percenters militia members charged in U.S. Capitol attack

U.S. prosecutors have obtained a conspiracy indictment against six California men associated with the Three Percenters right-wing militia, the latest in a series of such charges arising from the Jan. 6 riot by former President Donald Trump's supporters.

The Justice Department said in a news release that four of the six men "identify as members of Three Percenter militias," but that all of them chatted on the app Telegram to coordinate their actions on Jan. 6.

Two of the six men, Alan Hostetter and Russell Taylor, were seen a day before the riot with Roger Stone, a friend and adviser to Trump, during a protest outside the U.S. Supreme Court against the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

Hillary Clinton Benghazi Hearing Numbs 4M Cable News Viewers

[T]he three cable news networks managed Thursday to whip up a collective 4 million viewers willing to watch an hours-long interrogation between 10 AM and 5 PM ET. That 5 PM is when Fox News Channel became the first cable news net to pull away from its camera-trained-on-hearing coverage, as Clinton's voice grew hoarser, chairman Trey Gowdy's face grew shinier, and viewers grew wearier.

A few of things about these hearings... Making them a theatrical production really makes them appear unserious. The extremely partisan makeup of the congressmen on the committee invites skepticism. Biggest thing however is that the major problems we are currently experiencing in this country - COVID still with us, skyrocketing inflation, pure chaos at the Southern border, Ukraine, baby formula shortages, supply chain disruptions, etc, etc. All of these things are of far greater importance to voters than what happened on 1/6, which most people seemed to have moved past from, or the problems I just cited have moved 1/6 past voters as a point of concern.

Damage control? Just offering my opinions which you clearly disagree with. It's not a "smokescreen".

Perhaps you should look more closely. Don't forget the context. Bottom of pdf page 2;

New evidence from Select Committee's First June Hearing (June 9, 2022):

Vice Chair Cheney said based on the evidence: "President Trump gave no order to deploy the National
Guard that day, and he made no effort to work with the Department of Justice to coordinate and deploy law
enforcement assets."

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley said the Vice President issued orders to the military
to secure the Capitol, and, in contrast. Meadows was focused on "politics" and the "narrative" of whether
Trump appeared to be in charge, which Milley referred to as a "red flag."

Numerous members of the January 6th mob confirmed that they came to D.C. because "Trump asked us to
come" to stop the election from being stolen. In the words of one Trump supporter, "He asked me for my
vote and he asked me to come on Jan. 6th."

Don't forget the context.

"Simply the fact that a producer was brought in"

So...you're whining about...what you imagine might have been wrong. And you didn't even watch the hearing to justify your complaint. Pathetic.

"The report cited a lot of contacts back and forth but nothing criminal."

A lot of contacts??? Team Trump claimed NONE, over and over. Why do you accept Team Trump lying to you like that? Can you not handle the truth, or do you not deserve the truth?

More importantly, are you pretending the FBI SHOULDN'T have investigated after, say, Jeff Sessions walked into Kislyak's office and lied about it, under oath?

And most importantly, why did Paul Manafort repeatedly give Russians internal campaign polling information?

But for more than a year, well before the name Ray Epps was widely known in right-wing circles, federal authorities have had information " from both him and Mr. Samsel " suggesting that he was not a government agent and did not encourage the younger man to engage with the police that day.

@Danforth pretty sure you and the others should be focusing on how to retain power instead of living in the past. Your folks in DC are so tone deaf to think any of this matters and we're praying this would be their Hail Mary. Again, it was a much-a-do about nothing.
The people, the ones who will send your folks packing care more about inflation, high food and absurd gas prices to remotely care about this.
Honestly and I mean this ... Thank you for focusing on this instead of addressing real matters of the people. The political blood bath is coming and there was plenty of time to stop it and yet the egotistical Left chose this as the hill to die on instead of doing the work of the American people.
Cheers!

The cop slipping in the blood of other cops isn't evidence of violence.

This level of hypocrisy is laughable coming from Fanboys of Trumpy, the Star of The Apprentice. You Fired!

After 4 years of Trumplandia and where every day was a new tweet and a new dramatic episode it's some pitiful weak sauce bro.

Reminds me of Trumpy whining about Dems using teleprompters while reading this talking point from a teleprompter or Sister Sarah! reading her FoxNews talking points off her "palm-O-prompter.

Simply the fact that a producer was brought in and the stated reason for hiring a producer.

#146 | Posted by BellRinger

Which proves what?

They wanted someone who knows how to present information to uninformed people in a clear way?

What a scandal.

Your cult is so stupid and brainwashed that they hear "news producer" and they think it proves some sort of scandal.

Watch the hearing and tell us how this horrible "news producer" deceived anyone. You wont.

I wonder why the Army forcefully lies about Charlie Flynn's involvement?

Granted he left for his own office to join the meeting..

The Capitol Police were made to wait over three hours and denied six times for National Guard backup by the Pentagon? Is that correct?

A very Uvalde response..

No matter how much evidence is produced in these hearings Trumpers will just continue to lie, deny and reject it. Especially over on Fox Prop.

Lie deny and obfuscate is the Plan now.

They won't accept anything less than indictments and arrests. And even then they will just make the insurrectionists martyrs to the "cause".

Meanwhile Trumpy "runs" again to get political "protection" because now it's too close to the election and the DOJ can't be seen as getting involved in "politics".

This story does not have a happy ending like Watergate. ( tho even that was not very "happy")

That's because we have a impotent DOJ run by a blind fool who was appointed by a delusional moderate. Repubs chose to try and overthrow democracy. Moderate Dems decided to let them get away with it.
