Even the 'Good' Lawyers Didn’t Blow Whistle on Trump
Jennifer Rubin: State bars, and certainly the Justice Department, must clarify lawyers' ethical obligation: After exhausting all internal channels, they must alert law enforcement -- or the public -- to any plot to overthrow our democracy.

Watergate was also absolutely crawling with lawyers. Most were remarkably adept at crawling around the outside of prison walls without actually falling in. A few, not so much.

As Rubin points out
Did they think everything was under control? Certainly, they knew Trump had not yet conceded and had planned the "Stop the Steal" rally on Jan. 6. That seems the weakest excuse. Did they feel bound by the attorney-client privilege or beholden to Trump because they served in his administration? Sorry, but the client of government lawyers is the American people, not an individual president. Did they think they could preserve their careers? Perhaps they calculated that staying quiet meant they did not have to face the wrath of the GOP and the MAGA crowd " or end their career in GOP circles. If they thought quitting was sufficient, they were grotesquely wrong. With regard to Rosen, he had a legitimate concern that executive privilege prevented him from revealing the contents of the Oval Office meeting. His conclusion that the plot had been nipped in the bud, while sincere, proved horribly naive.

They thought of saving their own asses first rather than to possibly be admitting that they were involved in the insurrectionist conspiracy.
One must remember that they were all admirers of Trump; all his appointees.
I mean, millions of American are still turning a blind eye to the Big Lie because they are already committed to Trump.

A bunch of opportunist twits that were hedging their bets on the off chance that Trump would succeed. Lawyers are a bunch of loathsome spotted reptiles. D.C. is full of them.

Tens of millions of Americans BELIEVE the big lie even if they don't openly condone 1/6. I talk to them every day. I hear things like "you have to admit they are onto something with election fraud" ALL the time.

The folks Rubin is writing about very much get to shoulder responsibility for inflicting Trump's fascist nightmare on this country. But they've forgotten how to blush and obviously feel no shame. ---- them all.

Similar to Watergate, Trump's whole "stop the steal" lie, including the Jan. 6 attempted coup, has shined a shameful light on another generation of grasping political lawyers lacking the courage and conviction to stand up to the professional pressure. For the most part, they do not have the integrity or self awareness to even realize just how shameful their behavior has been.

"She needs to be locked up!"
But don't forget about her ultimate crime.
Her Emails! She didn't use her emails correctly. Such a horrible person must locked up! Attempting the overthrow of our democracy is nothing compared to email misuse.
Because "we love Wikileaks!"

Watergate might well be the straw that broke the camel's back, we just didn't know it at the time. A camel doesn't always just keel over and die immediately, sometimes it takes while to succumb to its injuries.
I was listening to "How We Got Here" on some NPR affiliate about the Heller opinion and the Constitutional Law scholar said he doesn't believe Constitutional law exists any more. It's now just politics masquerading behind legal rationale.
I wonder what my "Constitution Faith" colloquium professor from undergrad would have to say about the coup attempt.

The lawyers who "could have but didn't" disclose the unlawful plot have forgotten that they are Officer of the Court first and lawyers second. It didn't matter what the reasons were for hanging in with Trump. I hope they're given some rehab time behind bars to let it sink in.
Their confessions, yes, confessions, to the House Committee now are a whole lot of too little and too late.
