A Texas House of Representatives committee investigating last month's Robb Elementary School massacre convened in Uvalde Friday morning, amid continued criticism of Governor Greg Abbott's refusal to instead call a special session to address gun violence.

Data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that the firearm death rate among Texas children, people ages 0 to 17, has more than doubled since Abbott took office in 2015.

Nice shootin', Tex.

No one could have predicted that if you got rid of as many reasonable gun laws as you possibly could that more kids would die.

Well, no rwinger in Texas could have. Or maybe they just don't care.

That old image of the wild and wooly west is deeply ingrained in Texas.

They haven't progressed much.

And that's the thing... it's really just an image of a time that never really existed.

"But there's more: gun laws were not only ubiquitous, numbering in the thousands, but also spanned every conceivable
category of regulation, from gun acquisition, sale, possession, transport, and use, including deprivation of use through outright confiscation, to hunting and recreational regulations, to registration and express gun bans.

For example, the contemporary raging dispute over the regulation of some semi-automatic weapons that began in late 1980s was actually presaged seven decades earlier, when at least seven states banned such weapons entirely - a fact that seems to have been unknown to modern analysts until now.

A vast newly compiled dataset of historical gun laws reveals that the first gun grabbers (as contemporary gun
rights advocates like to label gun control proponents) were not Chablis-drinking liberals of the 1960s, but rum-guzzling pioneers dating to the 1600s."

The "Wild West" was a very short period in our history, 10 to 20 years mostly having to do with cattle drives and the wild towns that grew up to serve them... towns that almost all had No Guns laws within the town limits.

Abbott must enjoy killing children.

The whole Texas Repub party enjoys it-read their newly adopted platform. One of the planks is the elimination of ALL gun control laws.

The GOP is a Death Cult.

Abbott is no different than any other GOP wanna-be dictator. It's not just children. They get a 'power rush' over having life and death control over everybody.

I don't think Abbott is as crazy as Donald Trump though. At least I haven't heard of Abbott having an "enemies list" that's 10 pages long, single spaced. Now THAT is severe mental derangement comprised of insecurity, paranoia, greed and a dozen or more other mental loose screws that are above my pay grade.

Suffice to say, I think a lot of Trump's wiring have been short circuiting since birth.

Current Texas makes old gunsmoke radio episodes sound like the castro district of San Francisco...

Even Roy Rogers and the Lone Ranger wore a double brace in their movies.

And if I remember my 40's correctly, even Dale Evans was packin' heat.

But Corky is right. The "real" wild and wooly west didn't last very long. Wagon trains brought women and women brought civility and civility brought law and order and law and order brought politicians.

Can we finally put to rest the tired old National Russia Agents' lie that an armed society is a polite society? The States with the highest gun deaths are shockingly the states with the laxest gun laws. Proof positive that more guns means more death.

"Life is short, its all God's plan."

No offense but I don't believe the Texas A.G. for a minute. Why would God go to all the trouble of creating helpless little babies, only to have its young life snuffed out by Greg Abbott's unwholly allegiance to the National Rifle Association.

That sounds more like Greg Abbott's plan . . . not God's.

That's because we still ain't got enough guns, doncha see? We can't be free n' safe until every last American is protected by their own high-powered liberty maker, blasting giant, smoking holes of freedom through the bones and flesh of tyranny. Anything less is commies.

That's only for right now when the GOP need its gun-totin', rootin' tootin', shoot'em up, rebel rousin', army of zombified miscreants and unemployables to show up on command to do their dirty work.

But they're not thinking ahead.

In the aftermath, the last thing a tyrannical government wants is an armed citizenry that could rise up against them.

So . . .

Goodby guns. Toodles, Second Amendment. We knew ye when.

I'd like to thank all of those young patriots who gave their lives to help guarantee that dudes who beat up their girlfriends can have freedom blasters.
