The timeline the American-Statesman reported from the documents included footage from inside the school that showed the 18-year-old gunman casually entering a rear door at 11:33 a.m., walking to a classroom and immediately spraying gunfire before barricading himself. Video showed 11 officers entering the school three minutes later, the newspaper reported.

Four minutes later, at 11:44 a.m., body camera video recorded the sound of more gunshots. At 11:52 a.m., Four minutes later, at 11:44 a.m., body camera video recorded the sound of more gunshots. At 11:52 a.m., the first ballistic shield arrived as officers grew impatient to act. Arredondo struggled to find a key to the classroom door even though no one is believed to have tried opening the door, the newspaper reported.

Chief Pete Arredondo's law enforcement career should be over. His lack of immediacy and tactical response awareness are unconscionable considering the damning details and timeline. There simply is no excuse for how he mismanaged this crisis.

Abbott and the Republican Party are now covering up Uvalde, correctly understanding its potential to upend the stupid GOP narrative on "good guys with guns" and also affect the November elections.

He was incompetent, unsure, unskilled, and scared.

At any mass shooting event, any number of persons beside the malefactor are armed. But they, too, are unsure, unskilled, and scared. Therefore their guns are not used.

I think we've known this at least since Aurora. People, by-and-large, will not use a gun unless it's their ass directly. Maybe not even then, due to over-intense emotional and lack of training. The armed run and hide with everyone else.

Imagine Andy Griffith and Barney Fife responding to a call of shots fired at the local elementary school in the sleepy town of Mayberry. That is essentially what occurred in Uvalde.

These were the good guys with guns, out to disprove the NRA's key talking point, advertising slogan and mantra.

Memo to all you tough-talking gun owners and NRA toadies out there: as proven by the police, you aren't so tough, even with that Glock or Bushmaster in hand...

Uvalde police response an abject failure', state's top cop says
www.nxsttv.com

...Law enforcement authorities had enough officers on the scene of the Uvalde school massacre to have stopped the gunman three minutes after he entered the building, the Texas public safety chief testified Tuesday, pronouncing the police response an "abject failure."

Police officers with rifles instead stood and waited in a school hallway for nearly an hour while the gunman carried out the May 24 attack that left 19 children and two teachers dead.

Col. Steve McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, testified at a state Senate hearing on the police handling of the tragedy. Delays in the law enforcement response have become the focus of federal, state and local investigations.

Eight minutes after the shooter entered the building, an officer reported that police had a "hooligan" crowbar that they could use to break down the classroom door, McGraw said. Nineteen minutes after the gunman entered, the first ballistic shield was brought into the building by police, the witness testified....

A mother had more balls than the entire lot of them, hopped the fence and ran into the building to get kids out while the police waited for their --------- to be delivered.

The armed run and hide with everyone else.

I'm sure the ----------- will be along with a video of the one time in a thousand that an armed person didn't run and hide.

Now the call is to arm teachers....more guns...which will be useless. Why after Buffalo wasn't there an outcry to arm grocery clerks and black people?

Police could have stopped Uvalde shooting within 3 minutes, a Texas official says
www.npr.org

...A top Texas law enforcement official said that there were enough armed police officers wearing body armor to stop the late May shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas three minutes after it began.

But instead, it took about an hour and 14 minutes from when officers arrived at the school to when they breached the door and ended the standoff with the gunman.

That was according to Steve McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, who spoke to state officials during a Texas Senate committee hearing on Tuesday.

"The officers had weapons, the children had none. The officers had body armor, the children had none. The officers had training, the subject had none," McCraw said.

He added that the outside door the shooter used to enter the school was unlocked, though the lock was working properly.

McCraw called the police response to the shooting an "abject failure" and said it was "antithetical" to the lessons learned about active shooter situations since the shooting at Columbine High School in 1999.

In particular, McCraw criticized the on-scene commander for waiting to confront the shooter rather than breaching the classroom where he was hiding as soon as possible....

Cops with body armor, helmets, and guns won't confront a shooter as they listen to children be slaughtered.

And guns nuts want armed teachers to do the job.

Will teachers have an obligation to do something? The police don't.

Will teachers get qualified immunity if they act, like the police? I don't think they will.

Why should the teachers go above and beyond what the police do?|

armed officers stood in the hallway with [rifles and] at least one ballistic shield

I saw someone make the point that if you gave this equipment to almost any civilian, they would have done more to save those children than the Uvalde Police.
