Residents in the town of Millinocket, Maine, say they are outraged and disappointed after a local insurance agency displayed a racist sign remarking on the Juneteenth holiday. "Juneteenth ~it's whatever ... We're closed. Enjoy your fried chicken & collard greens," the sign stated in a large font. It was taped to the front of Harry E. Reed Insurance Agency in Millinocket on Monday.

This is par for the course when disconnected white people living in predominantly white communities try to be funny. They lack any self awareness as to just how racist they are.

Just "virtue" signaling from America's rwingers, to America's rwingers.

I'm so hungry right now.

Chitterlings. #1 | Posted by LegallyYourDead
Also delish when deep fried. Turns out
many calamari rings may actually be chitterlings.

Collards are the bomb when cooked right. Smoked ham hocks and a solid cornbread from scratch.

I grow collards, mustards and turnips. That's mostly our fall/winter staples as far as veggies go.

Former now Governor Paul LePage speaks as Governor:

The governor of Maine has said that people of colour were enemies of his state, and appeared to suggest they should be shot.

Speaking about Maine's effort to combat drug crime, Paul LePage said that "the enemy right now... are people of colour or people of Hispanic origin".

"When you go to war... and the enemy dresses in red and you dress in blue, then you shoot at red," he said.

Leading Democrats have urged him to resign.

Mr LePage made the comments while seeking to clarify remarks he made earlier in the week which were criticised as racist.

The press conference capped a controversial 72 hours for the Republican governor.

SNL seasons 6-10 with Eddie Murphy? Every episode of In Living Color, Chapelle Show. And maybe about the preceding 150 years or so.

And yet people wonder why we should be teaching cultural awareness in our schools or explaining what modern 'racism' looks like.

I spent part of the day educating friends and explaining the importance of Juneteenth to people who were mocking, dismissive or downright annoyed to have another holiday (go figure). I spent the afternoon with family, fried chicken and collard greens.

So yeah.the "Juneteenth-whatever" was rude. The food part gave me a chuckle.

I hope it worked!

I make a point of not having friends like that.

My work for insurance companies has taught me taht selling insurance is hard work, and being good at it means a lucrative way to make a living. Being blackballed from that business because of racist stupidity is a good way to lose a good job...

Maine insurance agent: probably hasn't seen a black or brown man in months,
possibly years...

Actions have consequences:

Progressive, Allstate Dump Insurance Agency After Racist AF Juneteenth Sign

Progressive spokesperson Jeff Sibel said the insurer was "appalled" and was "terminating our relationship with the agency," CNBC reported.

Allstate also ended its contract with Reed, NPR reported.

Maybe they can open up a MyPillow Outlet store instead ...

They were complaining about having a day off work.

This agency brought the trouble on itself. I wouldn't be surprised if it goes out of business.

Don't want to mark the holiday by giving your staff the day off? Stay open. There's no need to be obnoxious about it by posting a racist sign. Such a weird time when hateful people so willingly put their livelihoods at risk just so they can say or do something that's openly hostile.
