Supreme Court: Abortion presents a profound moral issue on which Americans hold sharply conflicting views. Some believe fervently that a human person comes into being at conception and that abortion ends an innocent life. Others feel just as strongly that any regulation of abortion invades a woman's right to control her own body and prevents women from achieving full equality. Still others in a third group think that abortion should be allowed under some but not all circumstances, and those within this group hold a variety of views about the particular restrictions that should be imposed.

Nothing has changed except that millions of American women will now find their lives more miserable and tragic. Anti-abortion laws will be routinely ignored, just as they always were. The forces of reaction will only know how to respond with punishment as they always do. It'll be like the drug wars, except much more personal.

I agree, I didn't agree with where the line was drawn in RvW ... but it was a reasonable compromise. Bothsides went non-linear, we are struggling with our system. One more burden for a country that is tearing itself apart.

If I understand the originalism's logic its that one is explicitly read in the constitution, the other is inferred and no where to be found.

Gallup's ranking on how much Americans trust the Supreme Court hit a new low before this decision with only 25% trusting the Supreme Court. The previous low was 5 points higher. I don't think this is going to help...

Don't forget Thomas' opinion citing history and tradition. Which he got wrong in the Bruen decision anyway. But obviously history and tradition did not apply in this decision.

The Supreme Court is corrupt. It chose a president in 2000 by stopping the counting of votes and that president chose justices. McConnell invented one rule to stop Obama from appointing a justice then broke it to allow Trump to appoint one in the last days before an election. He even openly laughed about doing it.

At this point Americans should treat the court as illegitimate. Let's stop pretending it is anything other than an unelected legislative branch of politicians with lifetime tenure.

The most conservative SC opinion of my life time (a 7-2 decision on a court with 4 Nixon appointees) has been reversed by the American Taliban.

This reactionary decision comes a day after a law regulating firearms was overturned after having been on the books for over a century.

They have a right to health care under the Eighth Amendment.
That, however, sure seems like it's in keeping with the Founder's Intent.

This decision can't be squared with Founder's Intent since abortion was legal in all 13 states when the Constitution was ratified.

Yes, Justice Thomas was reported to have told several people that the court was simply waiting for the right cases to come along so that they could go back and revisit the rulings which legalized contraception ('Griswold v. Connecticut') and same-sex marriage ('Obergefell v. Hodges'). He also alluded to the fact that there were other 'wrongly decided' cases which needed to be addressed. I suspect that he's talking about such cases as 'Lawrence v. Texas', 'Plyler v. Doe', 'National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius', and maybe even 'Loving v. My understanding is that the Connecticut law was based on the Comstock Act of 1873 which made it illegal to use any drug or medicinal article which prevented conception. It was focused almost 100% on the actions that could be taken by women. This was a time when women in America still had almost NO rights as an individual. It's this antiquated law and the attitudes that went with it, which was the basis for the argument that the owners of 'Hobby Lobby' made when they objected to having to cover the cost of birth control pills for their female employees under the ACA. When asked if their insurance covered vasectomies for their male employees, they said that was different, since it's the man's responsibility to decide how large of a family he's able to support.

Also, we need to see how long before these states, which have already set the ball rolling to make abortions, for any reason, illegal, start to force doctors to report miscarriages to authorities so that they can be properly investigated as a potential self-induced abortion. And then there's the issue of in vitro fertilization. How long before they make that illegal as well. And what about sperm banks and facilities where women can have their eggs frozen prior to some medical procedure which could result in her being unable to produce normal eggs, just in case she wishes to have children in the future. All of this could fall under some of the broad definitions that authorities in some states have given as to what's up for consideration when it comes to the fallout from overturning 'Roe v. Wade'.

In my opinion, abortion needs to be legal during the first trimester even though it's utterly barbaric. Now that it's been kicked down to the state level it's an issue that I will be taking into account when voting at the state level.

THE reason I voted for Trump my having not voted for a republican in 20 years was the Supreme Court decision that shut down a Christian owned business that did not want to participate in a gay wedding.

They offered to help the couple find other accommodations and even offered to pay but that wasn't enough.

They would have sold them anything else.

The owner felt they had the right to make that choice. I believe they had that right because this is a well established Christian doctrine and I believe they were being persecuted for their religious beliefs.

The Supreme Court did not protect religious freedom in the case.

That is THE reason I chose to vote for Trump so that the upcoming 2 (possible 3) seats coming open would not be nominated by a Democrat.

I wonder how many other swing voters were so concerned over this they voted for Trump.

Did abortion get reversed because of a gay couple who persecuted a Christian?

I abandoned the Democratic Party because they are blatantly on the offensive against Christians but then hide behind Separation of Church and State when you accuse them.

Without a conversation about repairing the foster system, Republicans' 'concern' for the unborn is completely unethical. The idea that adoption is a panacea for those women who are not ready to be mothers is ludicrous. Republicans have put the cart before the horse, but they don't care about that. The Bible is clear on the matter. Jesus never said a word about it, in fact it isn't in the New Testament at all. Nada.
What does that mean? It means you look to the Torah or Old Testament.
It's explicit there, and Judaism is clear on this matter from an extensive history and understanding of what it said in the Bible.
The fetus is not alive until it breathes. Any other position is not taken from Scripture. It is made up, concocted from a willful misreading of the Old Testament and wishes and buts.
