Child slavery.

The fascist revolution continues.

"Child slavery. The fascist revolution continues."

That's a little bit of an exaggeration. We've been okay with slavery since the beginning. The civil war didn't change anything except the mechanics of it by outsourcing to foreign nations and our own prison populations. With bipartisan support. What offends us these days is when folks are more open about it because it's embarrassing to us.

The overwhelming majority of Republicans and enough Democrats are indifferent to it either way, especially when the kids are undocumented. If they weren't here they wouldn't be exploited like that the argument goes. Expect a fine that is miniscule compared to the profits for using child labor and nothing will change.

It is very telling that this occurs when a large, multinational corporation chooses to locate in an impoverished Red State. Workers of any age don't stand a chance.

This was a contractor, Moder.

This is a homegrown good ol' boy showing what "C-c-conservative" America has in store for us.

Another shining example of modern capitalism at work...

Besides, this is right out of former Education Secretary Betsy deVos' playbook. She commented once that America should depend more on private and preferably, Christian schools, and for those families who can't afford private schools, they should consider encouraging their children to get jobs instead. Of course, she immediately complained that before something like this could become the norm in this country, we'd have to repeal the nation's child-labor laws.

They need to identify the persons responsible for the child labor and aggressively prosecute. This may be Hyundai, or SMART LLC, or the Temp Agency providing the workers. This is not a red/blue partisan issue and trying to make it one is pathetic.

#4 The contractor is a Delaware corporation, Hyundai is it's majority owner, and the contact email addresses have a KR (Korean domain.) No evidence that "homegrown good ol' boys in "C-Conservative America" have anything to do with this.

#3 What is wrong with corporations locating in impoverished areas? It is a win/win. They bring jobs and infrastructure to communities that need it, and benefit from lower labor and housing costs.

#5 WTH does this have to do with private schools or Betsy Devos?

#2 There are no "profits" for using child labor in the United States, as the penalty is prison, not "miniscule fines". Most likely the procurement of child labor took place entirely within their immigrant communities and immediate families, and their American employers were unaware. It just isn't worth the risk for a company to allow something like that.

Ah Alabama... America's backwater toilet bowl of a state...

#7 | Posted by earthmuse at 2022-07-27 06:32 AM | Reply

Have you ever been there?

#8 | Posted by Miranda7 at 2022-07-27 06:50 AM | Reply

What I see here so often is Folks from blue states with 5-10% Black populations, who THINK of themselves as progressives, refer to southeastern "red" states (which are 25-35% Black) as back water, red neck, toilet bowl, --------, backwards places. But you got your parities in a bunch when somebody referred to Haiti and El Salvador as "-------- countries". Hmmm.

As long as you have Jesus, you can disregard the laws.

Because she advocated for the repeal of child-labor laws so that companies like Hyundai could hire children who's parents couldn't afford to send to private schools. Besides, she also opposed to the idea that children who were undocumented should be able to go to public schools in the first place, which the Supreme Court has upheld, but who knows how that's going to go if the current Court revisits 'Plyler v. Doe'.

Link? (Where she advocated for repeal of child labor laws so kids could work in factories so they could afford to go to private schools).

Never mind, not going down that rabbit hole with you. The answer is that this had nothing to do with private schools or Betsy Devos.

Child labor laws being repealed and public education being destroyed. The GOP agenda moves forward.

So exactly which child labor laws have been repealed?

#16 | Posted by Miranda7 at 2022-07-27 04:25 PM | Reply

" So exactly which child labor laws have been repealed?"

Seemingly, the ones requiring the sheriff to enforce the law.

I bet Miranda7 is in 100% agreement with that comment.

Yeah, so that link says DeVos donated to a group that published one article saying 14 year olds could benefit from the experience of working part time at Walmart or McDonalds.. Real scary stuff ... ...

But no,, Betsy DeVos did not advocate or repeal of child labor laws. Try again

It's amazing how you people take a few innocuous facts, fabricate them into something else, then run with it. Kinda proves you don't have much real material to work with if you have to make up ---- like that.

Didn't read all your objections to Republicans claiming teachers are pedophile who groom kindergartners and turn them gay.

Seems like you're mostly interested in defending Republicans.

#22 | Posted by ClownShack at 2022-07-27 11:40 PM | Reply

#22, You guys have the "objecting to Republicans" pretty much covered here and I'm not one to pile on in an echo chamber, but if you pay attention, I have on occasion.

Show me an article asserting that teachers are all pedophiles and I'll be happy to object to it. Mostly what I see is Democrats claiming Repliblicans are saying teachers are pedophiles..

Usually my remarks are targeted against the media for publishing false, propaganda clickbait. As for "Defending Republicans" ... ... .I'll defend anybody who is being attacked or cancelled based on lies and misrepresentations. Since Republicans are the ONLY people being attacked on this particular site, that's how the math works out.

Show me an article where a Democrat is being attacked or cancelled based on lies and misrepresentations and I'll jump right in. But that Ain't gonna happen because nobody attacks Democrats on this site.

You should un-plonk JeffJ and defend Biden.
he's constantly saying Biden's border policy is to allow in as many illegals as possible.

Miranda, you have fallen into the conservative trap and don't even realize it. Cancelling does not exist. It is a conservative strawman. Conservatives playing the perpetual victim.
