A mother and father in Indiana have been arrested and charged after their 6-year-old son fatally shot his 5-year-old sister inside a home that police said was smeared with feces and trash. The girl died on Tuesday afternoon from a gunshot wound to the head, the Muncie Police Department said. Police allege the 6-year-old accidentally shot his sister after taking a loaded gun from a safe while his mom was napping.

... taking a loaded gun from a safe ...

It is not a "safe" if a 6 year old can take a gun out of it.

It is more of a shelf at that point.

They left the key in the lock.

@#3 ... They left the key in the lock. ...

So it was, effectively, a shelf.

Drawer, actually. I read he tried to get into it before so they "secured" it by putting it in their dresser.

OK. Whatever.

It was not properly locked up in a safe, or in a gun rack.

So there seems to be poor [understatement] control of dangerous firearms in the house.

Horrible people. No 6-year-old on the planet needs to know how to use a firearm.

Not even if they're in a war zone.

It's Indiana. You can leave it loaded and cocked on your kitchen table if you so choose.

I do have a concern about that.

Given that I have to fight to open the cap on my bottle of mouthwash because of the child-protection measures in place...

Do I really have to go on?

OK, I will.

Is the stupidity in the securing of the mouthwash or the lack of securing of the guns?

Jus' askin'...

You're on your own there, I'm in Canada. Here, you cannot have a loaded or unlocked gun in your home or vehicle. Or anywhere inside city limits for the most part.

Exceptions for LEO and licensed security folk.

unlocked gun in your home

I should clarify that to unattended unlocked gun before someone flips out... you do get to clean them.

Yeah, I am aware of the more rational aspects of gun ownership in other countries.

But that does not answer the question I posed.

Lemme try again...

Why is it more difficult for me to fight the "child protection" to open the cap of a mouthwash bottle than it is for a 6-year-old to remove a gun from the family safe and kill his sister.

To me, that seems to be a rather simple question to answer.

So, I'll wait...

You'd think they'd at least be concerned that feces could possibly be smeared on their most valuable possession.

Best I have is that back in the 18th century your right to gargle wasn't a big concern.

fwiw, a most interesting version of a Pink Floyd tune...

My guess is that you've never heard a reggae version of a Pink Floyd tune..

Easy Star All-Stars - Any Colour You Like

The Easy Star All Stars album is quite good.

Then there is the Luther Wright and the Wrongs rendition...

The Nation; Bluegrass's New-Age Hootenann (2002)
www.nytimes.com

...AN obscure Ontario quintet called Luther Wright and the Wrongs pulls off the improbable on a new album by setting Pink Floyd's 1979 rock opus, ''The Wall,'' to a bluegrass beat. The effect is even more striking on Roger Waters's classic song about British repression, ''Run Like ------.'' Between the porch-friendly banjo picking and the washboard thumping, the Wrongs turn it into the kind of anthem on persecution that you might imagine hobos humming as they hop coal cars, trying to stay one a step ahead of the law....

But I digress...

Good thing they're being charged.

That's been one major change in our gun laws I've advocated for for a long time. These sorts of things aren't "accidentally" at all and are little more than negligence.

"Why is it more difficult for me to fight the "child protection" to open the cap of a mouthwash bottle than it is for a 6-year-old to remove a gun from the family safe and kill his sister."

Because Republicans want it to be easy for a 6-year-old to remove a gun from the family safe and kill his sister.

Some tiny majority like Eberly might personally say they want gun control, but they don't have a seat at the table, and even if they did the only issue they really care about is lowering their own taxes.

The rest truly believe any gun control legislation will bring about Socialism.

If the 5 year old had been packin she could've returned fire.

Good thing they're being charged.

Four charges of negligence... not sure if any are actually gun related.

As sad as this situation is, you had to make a political football out of it. A child is dead solely because the parents were schitbags. Not because of either political party.

The Second Amendment made it political, dummy.

"solely"

Oh I see.

You've decided to be so stupid, that you truly believe the gun had nothing to do with the shooting.

"As sad as this situation is"

You're not sad at all.

The only way you would be sad in regards to this event is if some gun control legislation got passed.

It's brain dead people like this who give responsible gun owners problems.

Tying this to politics is opportunistic and pointless.

People are smart enough to realise these parents do not represent gun rights.

The parents should be charged.

#26 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2022-07-29 10:04 AM | Reply

According to the Muncie Star Press, police described the family's home as being in "deplorable" condition with trash, food, animal feces, and furniture strewn throughout the house and what looked like feces smeared on the walls.

It sounds like these deplorables are prepping for their next insurrection.

"People are smart enough to realise these parents do not represent gun rights."

Oh, but they do.

They demonstrate how stupid an idea "gun rights" is.

Because things like this just keep happening over and over.

Because people like this, say it with me now BillJohnson:

People like this shouldn't have the right to bear arms.
