Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Former President Donald Trump's legal team is in direct communication with Justice Department officials, the first sign of talks between the two sides as the criminal probe into January 6, 2021, accelerates, sources familiar with the matter tell CNN.

... The talks revolve around whether Trump would be able to shield conversations he had while he was president from federal investigators.

In recent weeks, investigators have moved aggressively into Trump's orbit, subpoenaing top former White House officials, focusing on efforts to overturn the 2020 election and executing searches of lawyers who sought to aid those efforts....

So, the DoJ has been moving up the chain of command is now seems to be focusing on officials who reported directly to fmr Pres Trump or were close to those who did.

Does Executive Privilege cover conversations regarding illegal actions?

President Biden has already signed-off on the fact that, as the sitting President, it's HIS decision whether to invoke executive privilege or not as it pertains to the individuals who have worked in the Executive Branch, and he has indicated that he will NOT invoke privilege with respect to anything related to what happened on January 6th as well as what was happening during the lead-up to January 6th.

This is nothing but an obvious leak from Trump's own defense team because the DOJ attorneys on these 1/6 related cases do not leak. So take this information as Trump-friendly media-seeding, trying to frame public impressions more in his favor - if that is even possible given the actions he's under investigation for.

Bottom line, the DOJ isn't "negotiating" with Trump lawyers about anything overly substantive. The US Attorney's are entertaining the attempts of Trump's lawyers to sift out what they're already uncovered to better ascertain just how screwed Trump is by the evidence and testimony already in the DOJ's possession.

No one should count on seeing Der Dotard do the Perp Walk anytime soon. The DOJ legal mob working these matters know that their situation is so dangerous that they must have air-tight cases, since both the judiciary and the public will be quite skeptical of any charges brought against Dolt 45. Trump will not be brought down on some exciting, high-drama charges. I predict that like Al Capone, he will be felled by some serious, yet mundane charge that will stick...

With all the appeals at Trump's disposal, plus his cadre of bobbleheads in the Supreme Court, Trump can worm his way out of prison time indefinitely.

But prison may not be the purpose behind the DOJ's investigation. As much as we'd like to see Trump waste away behind bars, (a perfect platform for martyrdom BTW) I think the DOJ intends to bury him so deep in indictments and trials (with help from the MSM 24/7 feeding frenzy, ("If it bleeds, it leads") that he'll be driven into political isolation for the rest of his days.

I think we have to keep something else in mind . . .

Whatever happens to Trump won't be the end of the GOP's plot to destroy democracy. Their plans are long range and set in stone. The fight for democracy will be a monkey on our back for many more years ~ or at least until the GOP can shoehorn the next corrupt candidate into the Oval Office to complete the mission.

They (along with FOX) seem to be eyeballing DeSantis at the moment who is smarter but every bit as greedy and corrupt as Trump.
