Steve Benen: If it seems like the amazing job numbers released this morning is the capstone on a pretty great week for the Democratic president, it's not your imagination.

Consider the developments from the last several days:

*Congress sent the CHIPS and Science Act to the White House for Biden's signature.
*Biden ordered a strike that killed al Qaeda's Ayman al-Zawahiri.
*The White House celebrated a big victory for reproductive rights in Kansas.
*Congress sent the PACT Act to the White House for Biden's signature.
*The Biden administration announced that U.S. uninsured rate has fallen to an all-time low.
*Democrats secured the votes needed to approve an ambitious Inflation Reduction Act.
*The Labor Department released data showing blockbuster job growth.
*Gas prices fell steadily for the seventh consecutive week.

Not bad for a seven-day stretch.

And all of this week's events happened while President Joe Biden had Covid.

Joe's got your "sleepy" hanging right here.

They can say "Let's go Brandon" all day long.
They can wear it on their asses, paint it on their trucks or tattoo it on their foreheads.
I don't care.

Because "Brandon" just added 528K jobs, got the unemployment rate to a 50 year low & is passing bills like a mother [effing] boss.

That's all very impressive. Too bad the media is so obsessed with January 6th nobody will ever hear about the good things he is accomplishing.

@#3 ... Too bad the media is so obsessed with January 6th ..

So, your comment seems to admit that the media focuses upon the quite important things to the Country.

Good to hear your alias say that.

I'm watching national news reporting now. Biden's great week is leading all the coverage - not on right wing news sites - juxtaposed with coverage of Alex Jones' punitive damages. Believe it or not, Americans are able to focus necessary concern on more than one issue at a time.

I'm also seeing quite a few written articles about the fact that almost every Democrat is running away from Biden, particularly those up for reelection this year, culminating with the idiotic fiasco of responses given during a NY congressional candidate debate. Dems are less enthusiastically going along with the more bullhorned conservative continual critique that Joe Biden is feeble and his Administration is failing. Not that there aren't numerous ongoing crises at this moment, but even while making mistakes and own-goals, Biden has helmed this nation while realizing dramatic legislative successes only seen before during the New Deal.

But for every negative thing the media and many in America wanted to blame Joe Biden for, this week there was a confluence of events which went in his favor and more importantly in favor of most Americans - even those who don't even like Biden. Joe did his version of dancing in the end zone today during an outdoor video touting the great economic news while wearing his signature aviator sunglasses.

In my opinion, things couldn't be breaking better politically for Democrats than at this moment. Most Democrats have openly agreed with the prevailing sentiment that Biden is responsible for so much that which appears to be wrong, and most of the fundamentals driving this sentiment aren't remotely in Biden's personal presidential control. Dems are still going to be able to keep safe distance from Biden should things worsen again, while drawing themselves nearer and embracing all the things "right" in Biden's stewardship of this nation during unprecedented times. Regardless of what the future holds, one thing will stay true: No President in US history has seen 9.3 jobs growth in 18 months - and most never achieved that number over 4 or 8 years.

One would get the impression that MIRANDA would prefer that the media keep its big mouth shut and stop haranguing Donald Trump with their endless string of investigations/reporting about the depth and breadth of corruption in the former Trump White House . . . and especially the plot to overthrow the U.S. government.

I'm deeply saddened by MIRANDA's disappointment./snark

My comment meant EXACTLY what I said. Is it beyond your comprehension that a person could disagree with you on one subject and agree with you on another? The need to place everybody into binary boxes, "Rep vs Dem", "Red vs Blue", "Us Vs Them" is really divisive and pathetic. Most Americans have a spectrum of beliefs. If you fit neatly into one of those binary boxes, I feel sorry for you.

I have no "alias". The obsession with aliases puzzles me. It is as though you can't fathom that more than one person would disagree with you, and those who disagree with you are all the same.

Not sure what you are saying there, but take a look at the front page. This is the only article about Biden. There are 5 articles about Trump/MAGA/Jan 6 and one about Desantis. Trump needs to be irrelevant already, and this type of coverage obsessing over the minutiae of Jan 6 isn't changing minds, it just keeps him in the spotlight and energizes his far right base. Biden supporters need to energize HIS base, and win over moderates. More factual, positive coverage of his accomplishments is needed and deserved.

Biden is not up for reelection. He doesn't need to energize his base because Democrats don't take all their cues from one leader like Republicans tend to do, especially so now as cult exists around one man.

It's so funny that Republicans tried to claim that Democrats had done the same thing with Obama, and in hindsight such ideas are hilariously projective based on the last 7 years.

As I mentioned above, Democrats up until now are largely running away from Biden, and due to the Trumpist base's obsession with his anointees have suddenly seen polling shift against GOP control of both houses toward the likelihood that Democrats will increase their majority in the Senate by at least 2, all due to the predilections of Trump-anointed candidates defeating far more mainstream conservatives.

Here's reality for you: Elected Democrats have been critical of Biden on various policies for the entirety of his presidency, so there is no need for them to take different positions just because the election is near. So Biden's stewardship of the White House has already been untied from most Democratic candidates, while nearly all of them have supported Biden whenever his actually successful policies have come up for votes - the times Manchin and Sinema or McConnell's filibuster allow them to.

So to my sensibilities, Democrats running this fall have a tremendous tailwind at their backs coming from multiple sources. Roe/women's autonomy - obviously, record employment numbers, the decline in Covid's impact - though that can still change at any moment due to unknown variants, unquestioned support for a free Ukraine - unlike many in the GOP who openly back Russia and Putin, and the unmistakable embrace of white supremacy, racism, sexism, and history denial by those now considered in the mainstream of the Republican Party as exemplified by CPAC this past week.

All in all the Dems are in a much better place than they thought they'd be as little as 90 days ago. And most of the reasons why are because of GOP extremism manifesting itself all over the country and the unmistakable recent successes of Biden's stewardship that are simply undeniable.
