Jim Newell: For the first time in Senate Democrats' nearly Congress-long quest to pass any climate and health care legislation, they have the 50 out of 50 Democratic votes they need to do so. The key moment came last week, when West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin cut a deal with Chuck Schumer to lower drug costs; create a package of (permanent) clean energy incentives; protect improvements made to the Affordable Care Act; and raise taxes on large corporations.

But seeing they're trying to jump-start World War III around the world, does it really matter in the long-run? Clean energy is not going to reduce the size of that massive radioactive cloud that will be hanging over your own personal event horizon from now until eternity. Affordable healthcare is not gonna help you purchase a bandage big enough to place on that fourth-degree atomic sunburn that will soon cover 100% of your body. And cheaper, accessible prescription medication will only accomplish one thing: guarantee you a pill-sized gateway into oblivion and lull you into a sedated state of medicated indifference so your eventual vaporization becomes akin to attending an old Pink Floyd laser light show at the local planetarium.

And just think. This is how skill, experience and compromise pays off. Not a single Senate Democrat had to be kneecapped for their vote.

And that's how it's done. It was a clinic.

You might be right. Trump isn't going to like this vote when it goes down. It's too progressive. Anything that's good for the country is a threat to the Republican Party and, by extension, to his candidacy.

Trump only knows one way of doing business. We all know what that means, don't we?
