Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The Senate on Sunday afternoon passed Democrats' sweeping health care, tax and climate bill, sending it to the House of Representatives, in a significant victory for President Joe Biden and his party. The final, party-line vote was 51-50, with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking the tie.

The bill -- named the Inflation Reduction Act -- would represent the largest climate investment in US history and make major changes to health policy by giving Medicare the power for the first time to negotiate the prices of certain prescription drugs and extending expiring health care subsidies for three years.

The legislation would reduce the deficit, be paid for through new taxes -- including a 15% minimum tax on large corporations and a 1% tax on stock buybacks -- and boost the Internal Revenue Service's ability to collect.

It would raise over $700 billion in government revenue over 10 years and spend over $430 billion to reduce carbon emissions and extend subsidies for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act and use the rest of the new revenue to reduce the deficit."

Senate Dems just passed the biggest legislative achievement of the Biden era -- a bill protecting climate, lowering healthcare costs, and making billion-dollar corps pay their fair share.

For comparison, the biggest legislative win of the Trump era gave a tax cut to billionaires.

Once again the democrats,
(though far from perfect),
prove that they are the 'Party of Action',
in getting parts of the environmental
and health bills passed.
Whereas the GOP continues to
be the Party of lies, obstruction,
obfuscation, hand sitting, sideline
watching, mudslinging, misinformation,
brutishness, attempted cheating,
and outright thuggery and intimidation...

In otherwords Righties, once again,
"You got nuthin' "...

Talk is Cheap! And actions speak louder
than words.

When is the last time a Republican did
anything positive for someone that already wasn't
a millionaire or a billionaire?

Funny as they had to change the phony title of the bill so quickly, but the again, anyone with a smidgeon of commonsense knew anything sponsored by dems would never reduce inflation.

#4 | POSTED BY EBERLY

No. It just leaves the status quo in effect: namely free market pricing. Why? Because Republicans blocked that portion of the bill.

Last Week: Inflation is from Dems handing out free money!

This Week: Inflation is from Dems raising taxes!

Republicans are so desperate to manufacture some reason to oppose this that they're complaining about the title of the bill.

#8 | Posted by JOE at 2022-08-08 11:14 AM | Reply

#8. That's because it's a garbage bill. And the timing couldn't be much worse.

But look on the bright side, Joe. They got it passed without nuking the filibuster or packing the court. See? It can be done.

That's because it's a garbage bill.

Then why am i hearing about the title and not the contents of the bill? Your post makes no sense; you may want to read mine again instead of just reflexively replying to everything i say without engaging your last remaining neurons.

And the timing couldn't be much worse.

For Republican election prospects? I agree.

But look on the bright side, Joe. They got it passed without nuking the filibuster or packing the court. See? It can be done.

It can be done for relatively inconsequential matters which the parliamentarian allows, but the Senate is still a malapportioned undemocratic -------- of an institution.

Nothing puts out a fire faster than pouring gasoline on it. Using that analogy, increasing the money supply by a nearly a trillion dollars with the stroke of a pen should snuff out inflation is what Paul Krugman would probably say.

This is a huge victory for the American people. Here's a few of the things covered in this bill, brought to you by the Democratic Party:

"Nothing puts out a fire faster than pouring gasoline on it. "

Was it like Republicans unaffordable tax cuts for the wealthy?

Or was it like Republicans attempt to destroy affordable health care by undermining and destroying the ACA?

Or was it like Republicans ignorant handling of a deadly global pandemic?

But you guys did a great job of gutting Roe v Wade and pouring gasoline onto the lives of American women and putting them in jeopardy and turmoil.

When you are in a hole maybe quit digging you foolish troll.

I like how Yav lists stated goals of the bill and automatically believes that not only will they all happen (they won't all happen), and that there won't be any negative tradeoffs for the ones that do happen.

They are facts. That is a list of what is in the bill. That is a list of what the bill does and what it lays out to accomplish through specific legislative actions within the bill.

You're just pissed because it's good news so you're throwing a tantrum.

#25 | Posted by YAV at 2022-08-10 07:48 AM | Reply

#25 if you believe those carbon emission reductions will occur as a result of this bill, I've got a bridge to sell you. If you think price capping will just magically work out just fine then you are an economics illiterate.

#26 | Posted by BellRinger at 2022-08-10 11:01 AM | Reply

So now you're saying that I gave you facts, but they may not yield the desired results because you don't believe they will, but not based on any facts, just your fee-fees? And then you assign me a position that isn't even relevant all so you can point to that assigned position you gave me and call me an economic illiterate?

Just stop being so dishonest already.

You gave what Dems proclaim will happen as a result of this magic piece of legislation.

It's a pie in the sky wish list of outcomes. Granted, we are both speculating outcomes but I can point to other similar measures that have failed spectacularly both here and abroad. You on the other hand are uncritically accepting and trumpeting what Dems claim will be the outcome with nothing to back it up other than your belief and faith that Democrats are awesome and their opponents are always wrong. It's pixie dust BS.

Everybody on planet Earth understands this except DingDong.

#39. I just reread Biden's statement. It was more narrow than I thought. (Restating what he said without slurring and lusting over the Prell odor of a young girl's hair) the month of July showed no additional growth of inflation (thankfully). This reduces the annual inflation rate to a mere 8.5% increase!

It makes EXACTLY the point I made and tells everyone you are one clueless ----, or a lying --------. Your choice.

Let's recap: You said:
These are the same people who are proclaiming July was 0% inflation when it was in fact 8.5%

The JULY inflation rate was ZERO AS I SAID.
The interest rate for the year is 8.5%, AS I SAID.
The ZERO for July brought the overall inflation rate down from 9.1%, AS I SAID.
If you don't know how to compute inflation, compound interest, PMV, FMV, then please don't tell me what I think.
Do yourself a favor and learn first.
