Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, August 08, 2022

The FBI executed a search warrant on Monday at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, the former President confirmed to CNN. Trump declined to say why the FBI agents were at Mar-a-Lago, but the former President said the raid was unannounced and "they even broke into my safe."

In addition to opening his safe, they also raided his vanity and confiscated 40 lbs of orange makeup, 6 cases of bobby pins and two industrial strength commercial hair dryers. They also removed the gold plated toilet.

Trump then announced that he won't be leaving his bedroom for the foreseeable future.

An executed search warrant would require the signoff of a federal judge, who would issue the warrant based upon evidence of a potential crime.

And can you imagine Garland signing off on a frivolous request for said warrant?

I can't.

Maybe something along the lines of, ~if fmr Pres trump did not want to be raided by law enforcement, maybe he should not have taken classified documents from the White House to Mar-a-Lago.~

Why do you think that fmr Pres Trump taking classified documents, that were not his to take, to Mar-a-Lago is an OK thing for him to do?

Why?

But to more directly answer the statement I quoted...

This is not the left, this is law and order that raided fmr Pres Trump's residence.

Wow, things seem to be getting a bit tense for fmr Pres Trump.

On the Bloomberg site, the next article is...

Trump Turns to Lawyer on Bannon's Losing Case for DOJ Talks
www.bloomberg.com

...Donald Trump is being represented by Evan Corcoran and John Rowley in talks with federal prosecutors over conversations the former president had with advisers during the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol, a person familiar with the situation said.

One of the questions before them is whether Trump could shield those advisers from Justice Department investigators of the assault, the person said.

The person asked for anonymity to discuss information that is not yet public. A Trump spokesman didn't immediately return a message left for comment. Messages left for Corcoran and Rowley weren't immediately returned.

Corcoran represented Trump's former aide Stephen Bannon at his trial last month for defying a Jan. 6 committee subpoena and Rowley represents Peter Navarro, another Trump aide, who is facing similar charges.

A Washington jury last month found Bannon guilty of two counts of contempt for defying the Jan. 6 committee's subpoenas seeking documents and testimony.

The Justice Department is using a grand jury in Washington to investigate efforts by Trump and his inner circle to create false electors and pressure former Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the 2020 election.

They are the clearest signs to date that the Justice Department's investigation has expanded beyond those who attacked the US Capitol to focus on actions taken by Trump and his allies in the days and weeks after the election....

FOX has been on the air defending Trump. Among other things, they're claiming that this raid was a "reverse coup" by the DOJ/FBI/Democrats to prevent Trump from running for president again.

They're saying that there doesn't even have to be an indictment. All the DOJ has to say is that they're "investigating" and that will scare people not to vote for Trump.

BTW, isn't that exactly what the DOJ/FBI/Republicans did to Hillary Clinton?

Educated guess that the feds can. What, you think this was all for political theater?

If so, you've got your head stuck in your partisan sandbox. Feds don't raid former POTUS household, with sign-off from federal judge, without significant confidence a charge is coming that they can prove without a doubt in a court of law.

Merrick Garland personally signed off on this AND FBI investigating Trump

FBI found evidence a crime was likely committed

Federal judge reviewed evidence and agreed there was probable cause to suspect a crime had been committed and signed off on a warrant of a **former president**.

This is DAMNING when you have the AG and a federal judge agreeing there was evidence enough of a crime that is also significant enough to warrant an unannounced search of a former president.

They've got overwhelming evidence of Trump's guilt by now and they're just stacking the deck.

More for Trump's ---- suckers to swallow.

#115 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2022-08-09 12:14 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 2

To obtain a search warrant, federal investigators must show a judge that there is probable cause to believe a crime has been committed and that there may be evidence related to that crime in the location they are targeting. In this case the "may be" would have to be 100% certain. Trump is about to be a criminal. This isn't going away.

Merrick Garland personally signed off on this AND FBI investigating Trump

Actually, Trump's own pick, Chris Wray heads the FBI, so he would have had to give the order to his agents under the chain of command. But of course the AG was in on everything that's happening.

And not enough attention has been paid to a huge aspect of this: Trump's was the first public acknowledgement of the search being done under court order. If he hadn't said anything, it may have remained confidential. So all the open angst and drama by Trump and the Republicans was set into motion by Trump and only Trump, as usual.

He's still appears to be willing to start a civil war to cover for his own crimes and sedition.

In reading The History of Nations, we find that, like individuals, they have their whims and their peculiarities, their seasons of excitement and recklessness, when they care not what they do. HA HA HA!!!!

They have a whole special law for Donnie. This is what is going to happen to him.

18 US Code 2071 - Concealment, removal, or mutilation generally state...

(a) Whoever willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, or destroys, or attempts to do so, or, with intent to do so takes and carries away any record, proceeding, map, book, paper, document, or other thing, filed or deposited with any clerk or officer of any court of the United States, or in any public office, or with any judicial or public officer of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

(b) Whoever, having the custody of any such record, proceeding, map, book, document, paper, or other thing, willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies, or destroys the same, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both; and shall forfeit his office and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States. As used in this subsection, the term "office" does not include the office held by any person as a retired officer of the Armed Forces of the United States.

DISQUALIFIED FROM HOLDING ANY OFFICE UNDER THE UNITED STATES. LOL!!!!!! That means Donnie cannot be president! AGAIN, like above, THIS IS TRUMP'S OWN APPOAINTED HEAD OF THE FBI. LOL, the GQP is sooooo stupid sometimes.

And this is any different from how Dems have treated Trump his entire tenure how? I wouldn't comment on it at all to prove your hypocrisy but, as usual and is typical, as a Liberal you resort to name calling to try to make your point. So, because of that, I'd like you to accept or deny that this is EXACTLY what Dems did to Trump for 4 years. And what Reps did to Obama for 8 years. And what Dems did to W for 8 years. And on and on and on.

Please, oh please, try to say that Dems didn't do this. There is so much evidence to prove you wrong that is on just about every single news site that is easily researchable, so it's not a bias thing. It's a hypocrisy thing. So to deny it proves everything Reps have been saying about Dems.

Sandy Berger's classified documents were classified as "confidential" - that is the lowest level of classification there is.

What Trump took, which he had no right to take, includes top secret documents. Putting that in perspective, the levels of classification are:
Confidential (Berger)
Secret
Top Secret (Trump)

Given what Trump took is not even allowed to be described, it sounds like they may be compartmentalized - which is a classification within top-secret. If not compartmentalized, then he may have even taken critical nuclear weapon design information (CNWDI). This tells me that this is not the standard classification categorization, but perhaps DOE classification. That becomes a HUGE and serious matter.

Trying to equate Berger's theft with this, one where a former President's home was required to be raided, indicates that these two things are not even in the same ballpark in severity.

Could you see a candidate working with putin to get elected? Could you see a candidate withholding foreign aid to blackmail another country into helping him win an election? Could you see a candidate attempting a coup when they lose? In case you hadn't noticed, there are no standards trump cares about.

Trump was warned. He was told that anything he had acquired while in office was the property of the government. He took stuff anyway. He was told to bring the documents back. He refused. He thinks he's above the law. You want him to be.

The National Archive ASKED the DOJ to investigate the missing documents. Trump also regularly tore up documents that didn't belong to him. Then he STOLE 15 boxes of records, some highly classified.

In 2016, he said Clinton should go to prison for emails on a computer at her house. She didn't steal them.

Some of Trump's biggest enemies are his former friends. Think about that:

Think about this as well:

The FBI under the direction of Trump appointee Chris Wray, former Federalist Society alum, Bush appointee, executed a search warrant issued by a Trump appointed federal judge. That requires a hefty amount of probable cause.

" Paul Manafort just yesterday admit to handing over polling data to the russians?"

Was that a coded message to Trump that he was ready to do business again and (perhaps) why the DOJ made their mad dash to Mar-a-Lago to retrieve that second stash of documents they knew Trump still had squirreled away?

That speculation would never enter my mind if it was anybody else but Donald Trump.

I suppose if you don't consider his DC plea deal and sentencing for conspiracy against the United States stretching into 2017, and lying to federal agents stretching into 2017, a "conviction," then that highly misleading statement could technically be considered correct. Ugh! The defenders of Trump are throwing smokescreens willy nilly. FACT: National Security Rules on handling highly sensitive information, items, and documents are no joke. Also, there's a long history of sensitive national security info, items, & documents being compromised and the FBI is a fairly benign agency at catching domestic participants in this severest of crimes against America's national security.

Given Trump's loose regard for the handling, safeguarding, use, and accounting for everything covered by classified information regulations, one can clearly envision any number of potentially gravely harmful violations that Tchump may have perpetrated.

Among the most serious prosecuted under the UCMJ is the deliberate falsification of classified materials destruction records. In practice EVERY item covered by handling regs should be meticulously tracked by serial # from point of origin to its proper final disposition. In NO WAY is taking anything home a proper final disposition. But many careers have been sundered by doing that. What about theft of such materials - that's even more malicious. Worse is deliberately falsifying destruction records by either copying a highly classified document to lose accountability for all copies of said document. And when that's dine, the motive has usually been gravely sinister, as in cases of crypto materials recorded as destroyed and subsequently found to have been compromised by passing it along a trail that can lead to Moscow or Beijing or other potentially hostile parties.

When that happens, the criminal offense rises to "Treason". Who knows what Trymp's motives are/were in personally collecting highly classified info/documents & stuff upon leaving office. Just doing that is punishable but if such stuff was falsely recorded as having been destroyed, or anything has been copied and/or shared with others " in these scenarios the severity of malfeasance quickly rises.

Given Trump's indifference to regulations and to preserving the sanctity of national security information, it's very likely that the legal search of Trump's classified stuff collection will reveal gravely critical errors by the ex-POTUS.

Yes they do. But there are numerous steps in the process that must be followed. He can't just say it's declassified. There is nothing to show that he followed that process let alone even started it.

It could be innocuous documents that have his signature on them and he was looking to turn a quick buck and auction them off, or it could be nefarious things like national security, cyber security, etc that would be sold to bad actors to use against the US.

Trump Himself Signed a Law in 2018 Stiffening the Penalty For Mishandling Classified Info to FIVE YEARS Prison
www.mediaite.com

Donald Trump himself, as president, signed a law in 2018 stiffening the penalty for mishandling classified information.

Politico reported Wednesday on the law Trump signed " making mishandling a felony " in the wake of his 2016 campaign against Hillary Clinton:

Notably, Trump " after a fierce campaign against Clinton in which he called for her to be jailed for her handling of classified material " signed a law in 2018 that stiffened the penalty for the unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents from one year to five years, turning it into a felony offense.

The penalty for doing so under Section 1924(a) of title 18 of the United States Code, which deals with the unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents or material, was changed from one year to five years in prison.

Presidential Records Act (PRA) of 1978, among other items:
Establishes public ownership of all Presidential records and defines the term Presidential records.
Establishes that Presidential records automatically transfer into the legal custody of the Archivist as soon as the President leaves office.

those seem the most salient points

www.archives.gov

And the subject of the search or the owner of the property being searched is entitled to a copy of the search warrant. The person from whom the property is seized is entitled to a detailed inventory of what was seized, normally provided at the time of seizure. The same inventory is part of the warrant return to the court. Law enforcement does not have to reveal to the subject of the search or the owner of the property being searched the reason for the search nor the probable cause in the affidavit and application for the search warrant . That information can certainly be challenged in a suppression hearing, but that process occurs after the subject has been charged. The calls by the Trumpuppets for the reasons why, the names of whom, and what's the probable cause are just so much B.S. Theater. Light and noise to distract your eyes and ears from justice being served.

Couple things here, Manafort and Rick gates are sending polling data to a Russian intelligence officer while Russia is breaking laws to assist trump. The New Russia Sanctions Resolve a Mystery That Mueller Left Unanswered

On April 15, the Treasury Department answered one of the biggest questions left unresolved by the Mueller investigation--and left unanswered as well by the 2020 Senate Select Intelligence Committee report about 2016 election interference.

The resolution of the mystery arrived unexpectedly, tucked inside the department's announcement of a package of sanctions against Russia issued in response to the SolarWinds hack and the Russian government's attempts to interfere in the 2020 election. As important as the nugget is, the Treasury Department didn't particularly highlight it. Any reader would have to look closely and be obsessively familiar with past developments in the Mueller investigation to know what to keep an eye out for. But there it was: Under a heading labeled "Treasury Targets Known Russian Agent Konstantin Kilimnik," the department announced that Kilimnik--whom the press release described as a "Russian and Ukrainian political consultant and known Russian Intelligence Services agent"--had, in 2016, "provided the Russian Intelligence Services with sensitive information on polling and campaign strategy."

Both the Mueller report and the Senate investigation established that Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort had passed that sensitive information to Kilimnik--but only now, years later, has the Treasury Department unveiled what Kilimnik did with it. With President Trump no longer in office, the development has attracted less excitement than it might have during the era of constant outrages about Trump's friendliness with the Russian government and the former president's attempts to hamstring investigations into his willingness to accept foreign help. But the Kilimnik news is worth paying attention to. As the New York Times put it, the Treasury Department's press release provides "the strongest evidence to date that Russian spies had penetrated the inner workings of the Trump campaign" in 2016.

Anyone who thinks the Russia investigation was a hoax and that the public knows everything about what the Mueller investigation found is either a dupe and/or a dope:

Previously secret 'alternative' Mueller report goes public

Compendium of evidence gathered by the special counsel's 'Team M' is heavily redacted.

The Justice Department has released portions of a previously unseen alternative version of special counsel Robert Mueller's report on ties between former President Donald Trump and Russia.

However, the 37-page report prepared at the direction of Mueller deputy Andrew Weissmann and released this week under the Freedom of Information Act is heavily redacted. Justice Department officials withheld large swaths of the document on grounds of ongoing investigations, privacy and protecting internal deliberations.

The report focuses on the work of what was known within Mueller's office as "Team M" a group of investigators and prosecutors focused on connections between Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort and businessmen and politicians friendly to Russia.

Can a President Pardon Anyone? - Laws101.com
As mentioned before, the US Constitution gives the President broad pardoning powers. This means that he can pardon anyone he deems deserving before they're formally convicted, during a formal investigation, or even after the individual in question has been convicted of the crime. Unfortunately, that's not true. There are too many Trump wannabes out there in the GOP on all levels of government, from school board members right up to presidential hopefuls. Trump has unleashed the shadow side of the Republican party, and boy oh boy do they like it.

How much land we've bought in West Alaska.

What did you think we were going to call the land Russia has to give up after all the damage they've done?

I wonder if we'll share a land border with Japan or a reunified Korea?

Is it relevant that at the time, trump wasn't a public official?

It was polling data paid for by a campaign on behalf of someone running for president.

Not s public official who had classified data.

I will say this. It's clear DeSantis is more hated than Trump by the Dems and the left. If Nikki Haley wins on a truly conservative platform she will be one of the most hated Republicans ever on the left because she's a minority.

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior, and there's no way anyone that's objective can't see that that is exactly the trend. It's built into the Right's mindset of aggrievement, victimhood, and a need to be told you're worth something. You have to have a Ramboesque daddy so you fantasize and project your needs on horrible demagogues.

DeSantis is worse than Trump. Trump was worse than Bush 43. Stunningly worse. Bush 43 was worse than Bush 41 (who was a decent man, IMHO), who was worse than Reagan. OK. You got me there. Bush 41 was better than Ronnie Raygun. I detested that idiot. After Reagan, Ford, and before Ford, NIXON. Nixon was miles above Trump.

You have to admit Trump was markedly worse than GWB, who was markedly worse than GHWB.

I think GHWB was the best Republican POTUS of the last ~40 years. He made some fiscal decisions, against mainstream conservative ideology, that were unpopular but necessary. And it cost him the election. GHWB put his country ahead of his party. And he put Clinton in a better position to achieve a surplus.

But wtf is fiscal responsibility (let alone surplus!) to today's Republicans? LOL. Or putting country over party?

We are seeing it, Eb. Because its right there in front of us.

Or at least a lot of us. Hopefully most.

I have been saying it for a LONG time, Eberly, on just about every thread that mentions DeathSantis. I live in Florida and we've been watching his authoritarian crap for 2 of the 3 years now. The first year, after an insane series of ads, he settled down and actually governed for the people of Florida. Then he started going sideways. He's a petty tyrant now with visions of grandeur. If he's elected President it's going to be bad. When I watch him with anyone that doesn't do exactly what he says it's him screaming "Respect My Authoritah!"

Indeed. But his kid took it even further. So his kid was worse.

And yeah, Trump wasn't into a lot of the "national security" (e.g., contra scheming, pro torture...) stuff. But at least the Bushes kept their coup activities outside of our country. Trump, not so much.

#334 -And we all saw how you right-wing morons put your own idiocy and stupidity about an incredibly communicable and deadly disease above everyone else screaming "my rights! my rights!" - killing off teachers, janitors, coaches, administrators, and those in their families that came in contact with them. A right that doesn't exist, and hasn't since the founding of this nation.

Over a million dead because of your "rights" - while ignoring the rights of the majority of parents that wanted their children to have a safer place learn, not a battle field of whining from (sarcasm alert) "deeply aggrieved" right-wing idiots.

And the best part? This same "freedumb" idiot is furious and fired the State's Atty General for not enforcing a non-existent ban on women exercising their actual legal right.

And this "freedumb fiter" (sp)is busy white-washing history, turning classrooms into battlefields, taking away rights to speak, even to protest - making it legal to run people that are protesting down, and even went so far as to create his own little gestapo (or as MTG says "gazpacho."

But you stick with that, Jeffy. You stick with your #334 dishonesty. You sure have made a name for yourself around here, haven't you?
