Meaning Trump's absconding and hoarding of these documents was and is a national security threat, and his fellow Republicans simply don't care. In fact, they are rushing to his defense and in so doing are inciting increased rage among some of their most violent supporters.

Trump Ordered Officials to Give Jared Kushner a Security Clearance (Febryary 2019)
www.nytimes.com

...President Trump ordered his chief of staff to grant his son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, a top-secret security clearance last year, overruling concerns flagged by intelligence officials and the White House's top lawyer, four people briefed on the matter said.

Mr. Trump's decision in May so troubled senior administration officials that at least one, the White House chief of staff at the time, John F. Kelly, wrote a contemporaneous internal memo about how he had been "ordered" to give Mr. Kushner the top-secret clearance.

The White House counsel at the time, Donald F. McGahn II, also wrote an internal memo outlining the concerns that had been raised about Mr. Kushner -- including by the C.I.A. -- and how Mr. McGahn had recommended that he not be given a top-secret clearance....

What's going on with Mar-a-Lago and Chinese spies, explained

Concerns about security and the level of access to President Donald Trump at his private Florida club Mar-a-Lago have been swirling since he was elected, but scrutiny kicked into high gear after the US Secret Service arrested a Chinese woman, Yujing Zhang, who they say was carrying four cellphones and a malware-infected thumb drive at the resort over the weekend.

According to the Miami Herald, a federal counterintelligence probe into possible Chinese intelligence operations targeting Trump spearheaded by the FBI was already underway, and now, it's been "turbo-charged."

The probe is also looking at Li "Cindy" Yang, a Florida massage parlor owner who allegedly sold access to President Trump and his family. According to the Herald, the investigation is a broader probe into Chinese nationals doing business in the area and predates both the revelations about Yang and Zhang's entry attempt.

"Selling" is such a short term proposition without any guaranteed results.

Quid pro quo is more Trump's style if either side hoped to achieve their mission. He could drag that out a lot longer than a mass dump of state secrets ~~ long into a second term that both Trump and Putin needed so badly.

In my opinion, Trump's power play is nearing its end. My question is, with so many years and political capital the GOP has invested in the mission to become a One Party Rule forever, who is going to pick up the torch and carry it to success where Trump failed so badly?

That's where I think the real danger lies. Who else is in the lineup, waiting for an opportunity to betray his country?

Rubio: I Still Believe Trump Can't Be Trusted with America's Nuclear Weapons Codes
by John McCormack, Senior Writer | June 09, 2016 05:01 PM

One month after announcing his support for Donald Trump, Marco Rubio still believes that the presumptive GOP nominee is unfit to be commander-in-chief. "I stand by everything I said during the campaign," the Florida senator told THE WEEKLY STANDARD on Thursday when asked if he still believes Trump cannot be trusted with access to the country's nuclear weapons codes.

During the campaign, Rubio said that Trump was "dangerous" and that we must not hand "the nuclear codes of the United States to an erratic individual."

www.washingtonexaminer.com

Once upon a better time, in 2016, Rubio, running against Trump, warned: "There are many people on the right, in the media and voters at large that are going to be having to explain and justify how they fell into this trap of supporting Donald Trump, because this is not going to end well, one way or the other."

This is now:

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) released a video on his Twitter account Monday night, during which he compared the Biden Justice Department's raid of its top political opponent to the actions of authoritarian Nicaraguan president Daniel Ortega.

"This is what happens in places like Nicaragua," Rubio explained, "where, last year, every single person who ran against Daniel Ortega for President, every single person who put their name on the ballot, was arrested and is still in jail."

"You can try and diminish it, but that's exactly what happened tonight," the Florida senator added.

www.mrctv.org

SEN. RUBIO: I'm telling you the next thing you're going to see here, Sean, because it's the playbook. And that is, they are now going to begin to say, "Oh, these Trump supporters, these Republicans, they're very upset. They're saying very angry things. We think they might be a threat. We think they're radical extremists. Let's start arresting them." ... The next step in this process is going to be that people who are supporters of Donald Trump or just conservatives complaining about this ... are going to begin to get labeled as potential insurrectionists and are going to begin to get harassed by law enforcement. That's the next step in this playbook, sadly.

The National Archives first requested the return of these documents in the weeks after Trump's departure from D.C.

Then, last spring, they sent over a request to the DOJ, who subpoenaed them. That didn't work.

The, last summer, officials met with Trump's lawyers at Mar-A-Lago and requested the documents. That didn't work.

So, finally, the DOJ had to send FBI agents (without their FBI jackets) in a low key retrieval mission.

Trump had every opportunity to return these documents. He didn't. And it is nothing akin to "Hillary's emails," which weren't "Classified" to begin with.

Unlike Trump's, some of which were marked "TOP SECRET."

Begs the question if these doc are really a big deal then WTF did it take so long to execute an order to retrieve them?

-Trump had every opportunity to return these documents.

Agreed, but what was standing in the way of the DOJ and the FBI to get them sooner?

Top secret documents and it took this long to get them back when it was obvious Trump wouldn't volunteer them?

Christ, the fact he TOOK them should have been a clue he wouldn't cooperate.

Mr. Garland said he had personally approved the search after the failure of "less intrusive" attempts to retrieve material taken from the White House by Mr. Trump.

Mr. Garland provided no details. But the person briefed on the matter said investigators had been concerned about material from what the government calls "special access programs," a designation that is typically reserved for extremely sensitive operations carried out by the United States abroad or for closely held technologies and capabilities.

Government officials have expressed concern that allowing highly classified materials to remain at Mr. Trump's home could leave them vulnerable to efforts by foreign adversaries to acquire them, according to another person familiar with the Justice Department's thinking.

Agreed, but what was standing in the way of the DOJ and the FBI to get them sooner?

It leaked that someone in his inner circle recently told the FBI where they were on the property and the extent of the top secret, national security documents Trump stole when he left the White House.

No doubt, Garland and Wray hoped to avoid the current bruh ha ha, and additionally needed to know the location they were in at Mar-A-Lago so they could get the search warrant issued by the fed judge based on specifically where to look, being such a large compound, and that of a former president.

That's one of the poorest attempts at deflection I've read around here in my years on Drudge. Ya, let's make it all about Biden not knowing rather than the 13+ boxes MORE than 15 previously taken from Mar-A-Lago.

This was a National Archive-DOJ matter. Biden wasn't told what the DOJ/FBI were investigating. Which is how it's supposed to work. Unlike Trump's attempts to weaponize the DOJ for his own personal gain.

And these could have been copies of originals for all we know.

If this nuclear information is sensitive enough, its the kind of thing we've ------- executed people for.

And he had this ---- in boxes in the basement of his resort without a lock on the god damn door.

I'd say maybe that knee jerk reaction by many Republican politicians was a bad idea but their base is too stupid to acknowledge the truth anyway. They'll vote Republican and Trump regardless.

What I want to know is if this was planned: Run the search, keep quiet, let Republicans blow up in defense of Trump, and then drop the (nuclear) bombshell. (See, nuclear is both a relevant fact and a fun pun!)

Republicans went scorched earth and now have to cross it to get back. True Idiots.

Article is hidden behind a paywall.

I'd have more faith in reporting based off "sources familiar with the investigation" if I hadn't already witnessed our media on countless occasions cite anonymous sources uncritically only to have their story fall completely apart upon scrutiny. Also Garland did not look prepared at all with his remarks. How does that happen? With something this unprecedented how could he not be completely prepared?

Maybe this time is legit. I accept it as a possibility. At the same time this story follows an all too familiar pattern with our news media and government. Trump calls for immediate' release of Mar-a-Lago warrant
apnews.com

...Former President Donald Trump called late Thursday for the "immediate" release of the federal warrant the FBI used to search his Florida estate, hours after the Justice Department had asked a court to unseal the warrant, with Attorney General Merrick Garland citing the "substantial public interest in this matter."

In messages posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote, "Not only will I not oppose the release of documents ... I am going a step further by ENCOURAGING the immediate release of those documents." ...

"Release the documents now!" he wrote....

Fmr Pres Trump and his attorneys could have released, and still can release, the search warrant to the public.

Rule 41 (g) of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure authorizes Trump to file suit demanding a return of all materials seized by the FBI at Mar-a-Lago by proof that the search warrant or its execution was legally defective. The text is clear to persons unschooled in the law: "A person aggrieved by an unlawful search and seizure of property or by the deprivation of property may move for the property's return ... The court must receive evidence on any factual issue necessary to decide the motion. If it grants the motion, the court must return the property to the movant." None among the former president's long roster of lawyers has questioned the legality of the search under Rule 41 (g).

OMFG! What will these -------- think of next?

Republicans foolishly try to roll out the what about Obama' tack

As Attorney General Merrick Garland wrapped up his brief remarks yesterday afternoon, Donald Trump wasted no time in responding. In fact, the former president, by way of his Twitter-like platform, pushed back immediately - in a decidedly Trump-like way.

"I continue to ask, what happened to the 33 Million pages of documents taken to Chicago by President Obama?" the Republican wrote. "The Fake News Media refuses to talk about that. They want it CANCELED!"

Other prominent Republicans stuck to the script. "They shipped 30 million pages of sensitive and possibly classified materials to Chicago, and, by the way, he has yet to return any of it to the National Archives. Not one page," Fox News' Sean Hannity claimed. "So is his house about to get raided?"

Let's note for the record that the Obama-related claims are demonstrably absurd. As the Washington Post explained yesterday:

As was reported back in late 2016, the Obama team was transferring the records to Chicago through the National Archives, which legally owns the documents once a president leaves office. Once the documents ultimately reached a warehouse in Chicago, the Obama Foundation was then due to pay the National Archives and Record Administration to digitize the documents. The lengthiness of that process aside, there isn't the faintest hint of legal violations. There is no evidence that Obama has hidden anything from the National Archives or that he didn't go through the processes required to share and protect those documents once they leave Washington.

This need not be complicated: Obama worked with the National Archives; Trump worked around the National Archives. There is simply nothing legitimate about this entire line of argument. It's not only insulting to Americans' intelligence, it reeks of desperation.

More from the article cited in #171...

...The FBI recovered 11 sets of classified documents from Mar-a-Lago during their raid on Monday, according to a report released Friday.

Some of the documents were marked 'top secret' and are meant to be kept in specialized government facilities, the Wall Street Journal reported after seeing a copy of the search inventory.

Agents recovered 20 boxes in total from the Florida estate, according to the report, with the rest including handwritten notes, photo binders, the grant of clemency of Roger Stone and a file with 'information on the President of France'.

The warrant is believed to have given FBI agents permission to search in Trump's office and all storage areas on the premises, and states four sets of top secret documents, three sets of secret documents, and three sets of confidential documents were retrieved.

Trump's attorneys claimed former President Trump declassified the documents before he left office. A president has the power to declassify any document, but there is a strict federal procedure for doing so. ...

Funny how the explanations of fmr Pres Trump's lawyers keeps changing from day to day...

@#175 ... Top Secret SCI, ...

SCI = Sensitive Compartmented Information.

Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Program
www.commerce.gov

...Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) is information about certain intelligence sources and methods and can include information pertaining to sensitive collection systems, analytical processing, and targeting, or which is derived from it. Access to SCI is only granted to individuals who have a need-to-know, have been granted a Top Secret clearance by Personnel Security (PerSec), and are approved by the Department of Commerce's Intelligence Community granting agency, and only upon completion of a separate Nondisclosure Agreement, the IC Form 4414.

Information that has been determined to be SCI may only be stored and used in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF). SCIFs have specific construction requirements, and their subsequent accreditation is separate from those for Controlled Areas and is coordinated by the Department's Special Security Officer (SSO).

InfoSec Program personnel process incoming and outgoing Visit Access Requests (VAR) for individuals with SCI who will be attending meetings or other events at that level. Within the Department of Commerce's Herbert C. Hoover Building (HCHB), VARs for Secret and Top Secret requests are handled by the Security Servicing Center and outside of the building, by an operating unit's Client Security Services Division (CSSD) field office....

A president has the power to declassify any document,

No, he does not have the power to declassify "compartmentalized" materials.

The former president does not have authority to declassify such documents, intelligence sources say, because they are classified under statute rather than by executive order.

Fat Nixon and his sycophants say that all the time, but it just ain't true.

That would mean that any document on any topic could be declassified at any moment regardless of the consequences to national security and there is no way that the laws and procedures governing those documents would have been set up that way.

Basically that is -----------.

Critical Nuclear Weapon Design Information
en.wikipedia.org

...Critical Nuclear Weapon Design Information (CNWDI, often pronounced SIN-widdy or SIN-wuh-dee) is a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) category of Top Secret Restricted Data or Secret Restricted Data that reveals the theory of operation or design of the components of a thermonuclear or fission bomb, warhead, demolition munition, or test device.

Specifically excluded is information concerning arming, fuzing, and firing systems; limited life components; and total contained quantities of fissionable, fusionable, and high explosive materials by type. Among these excluded items are the components that DoD personnel set, maintain, operate, test or replace. The sensitivity of DoD CNWDI is such that access is granted to the absolute minimum number of employees who require it for the accomplishment of assigned responsibilities on a classified contract.

Because of the importance of such information, special requirements have been established for its control. ...

No, it's not. It's an observation.

A strawman is when you've made something up out of whole cloth the other person DOESN'T do, to attack it, like when you claim someone cheered BLM violence when they did no such thing.
