Leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention said Friday that several of the denomination's major entities are under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice in the wake of its multiple problems related to clergy sex abuse.

The Southern Baptists didn't think black slaves should be freed, so they started their own version of Christianity.

Any Southern Baptists here?

Family left it decades ago. Didn't like the way they viewed women.

What I've had to deal with the local SBC they have been nothing but nice to me but on a national level they're getting probably what they deserve.

Ah, yessssss, the power to sexually molest people - a divine right conferred on the truly worthy by ... oh, right, by themselves. Ain't gawd great?

Never take just one Southern Baptist fishing with you.... if you do, he'll drink all your beer.

If you take two Southern Baptists with you, they'll keep an eye on each other and your can drink your beer!

When I was working back in Michigan as a machine designer, my boss was a Baptist, and at his church they decided to modify the tenets that their parishioners were expected to live by, making it OK to drink in moderation. He said that the consensus was that the sin of hypocrisy was greater than having a drink once in a while.

#5 That's a pretty cool anecdote.

The way I see it - one of Jesus' first and best miracles was turning water into wine at a big party. Clearly God wants us to drink a boatload of wine.

One Sunday night, the hellfire and brimstone preacher announced to the congregation, gleefully "thanks to God and the feds, evil demon liquer" would be dump by the feds later that night.

The choir immediately stood up and started singing "Shall We Gather At The River."

Look at all those Republican Groomer Factories!

Nobody is surprised. The Religious Organizations in general are breeding factories of abuse. The fact they are conservative organizations by definition is worth noting. The fact they cover it up, fits with conservatives. It also fits with the conservative pattern of accusing others of what they do. We have seen it time and again with influential religious "leaders" who get caught.

What is an atheist organization? I mean I've heard of the American Atheists and that one Ron Reagan does commercials for but my understand is those are more lobbying groups for defending civil liberties, not some group that brings members for religious like services where members might be preyed upon.
Sorry if I am misreading your comment but it seems to imply that there is some big church like organization with members who gather around the country for...well I don't know what they would gather for. To discuss nothing?
I'm not saying there is no such thing....I've just never heard of them if they do exist.

Tor has a personal prejudice against atheists and attempts to dehumanize or bothersiderism us at every possible thread.

Christians doing bad things? Well Trump is an atheist, so there!

I'm sorry you hate us, Tor.

Atheism not so much as those who hate Christianity.

#15 | Posted by Tor at 2022-08-14 03:52 PM | Reply

Tor, atheists don't have churches so we don't have overlords. Since we don't have overlords there's no one in power molesting children.

Got it?

What is an atheist organization?

The Freedom From Religion Foundation.

ffrf.org

Technically not strictly an atheist organization. Some, like myself, believe in some sort of higher power. We just don't believe it should influence government.

The purposes of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Inc., as stated in its bylaws, are to promote the constitutional principle of separation of state and church, and to educate the public on matters relating to nontheism.
