Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Maggie Haberman and Glenn Thrush: At least one lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump signed a written statement in June asserting that all material marked as classified and held in boxes in a storage area at Mr. Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence and club had been returned to the government ... The existence of the signed declaration, which has not previously been reported, is a possible indication that Mr. Trump or his team were not fully forthcoming with federal investigators about the material.

Last year, officials with the National Archives discovered that Mr. Trump had taken a slew of documents and other government material with him when he left the White House at the end of his tumultuous term in January 2021. That material was supposed to have been sent to the archives under the terms of the Presidential Records Act.

Mr. Trump returned 15 boxes of material in January of this year. When archivists examined the material, they found many pages of documents with classified markings and referred the matter to the Justice Department, which began an investigation and convened a grand jury.

In the spring, the Justice Department issued a subpoena to Mr. Trump seeking further documents believed to be in his possession. He was repeatedly urged by advisers to return what remained, despite what they described as his desire to continue to hold onto some documents.

In an effort to resolve the dispute, Mr. Bratt and other officials visited Mar-a-Lago in early June, briefly meeting Mr. Trump. According to two people briefed on the visit, Mr. Bratt and his team left with additional material marked classified, and around that time also obtained the written declaration from a Trump lawyer attesting that all the material marked classified in the boxes had been turned over.

My guess is whichever attorney signed the statement saying that all classified materials had already been turned over to the Government will likely lose their license and may face obstruction charges to boot. But I also feel that the attorney only attested to what he was told by Trump himself, which was of course a bald-faced lie.

During this entire week, has Trump or his attack dogs every expressed one sentence showing they understand the need for this nation's secrets to be kept secret and not lying around a private residence in Florida? Do orange pigs fly?

It's not trumps fault he removed documents labeled classified

It's his lawyers fault

Trump only hires the "best people" and is so personally transparent he is practically see-through

So Donald's lawyer lied to the DOJ about classified docs being returned.

Wonder who told him to do that?

How many of Trump's attorney's have been send to prison or sanctioned by the legal community already? I wonder what kind of dirt Trump has on those that continue to work for him.

Earlier this year, the Washington Post revealed that Bobb helped Giuliani on the Trump campaign's outlandish ploy to submit rival Republican elector slates in states that Biden had won. According to the Post, Bobb took part in at least one conference call about the fake elector stunt. She was also present at Trump allies' Willard hotel "command center" on Jan. 6, which was used to coordinate Team Trump's efforts to stop Congress's certification of the 2020 election.

Additionally, Politico reported last month that Bobb appeared to be the person that initially created the document behind the draft executive order directing the Department of Defense to seize voting machines and appoint a special counsel to investigate the election. The document, which none of Trump's election dead-enders wanted to take credit for drafting, was obtained by the House Jan. 6 committee in January of this year.

Anyway, she blasted Merrick right after his statement, and said there were not classified docs on the premises. Which at this point sounds like pleading ignorance.

Ms Bobb on a Trumper Network talking about how beautiful and servile to men that conservative women are compared to Dem women in the link above is hilarious.

These women actually make Sarah Palin look like a Rhodes Scholar.

I'm afraid this may be some evil genius strategery of Donald's to claim in Court that his legal representation was extraordinarily incompetent and that he was misled.

Here's what I'm hearing on this story today per several Republicans familiar with the episode... A federal grand jury subpoena is issued in the spring, time TBD. Investigators then come in June. Meet with Trump's lawyers about classified material that might be at the property.

After that June meeting, as first reported by NYT team, a Trump lawyer tells investigators, as a formalization of the visit and subpoena request, sign a statement that any problematic materials/documents in Florida were accounted for and, if necessary, returned to the U.S. gov't.

After that, the investigation continues. A federal probe into the former president's handling of sensitive documents.

And post-June is where the crux of the legal battle, now playing out, begins. Trump legal team and allies asserting blanket declassification on documents.

But in light of FBI search, federal investigators were clearly not satisfied that docs taken in June, or docs they believe might have been unaccounted in June, had some kind of blanket declassification.

The Q remains what was in affidavit that prompted that position and action.

What if it's his Secret Service detail?

Just a theory with nothing to back it up, but what if the reason the SS refused to testify for the Jan 6 hearings was so they could maintain his trust and keep working on identifying the contents and location of the documents?

More information has come out about the DOJ subpoenaed camera footage from MAL:

The Justice Department also subpoenaed surveillance footage from Mar-a-Lago recorded over a 60-day period, including views from outside the storage room. According to a person briefed on the matter, the footage showed that, after one instance in which Justice Department officials were in contact with Mr. Trump's team, boxes were moved in and out of the room.

That activity prompted concern among investigators about the handling of the material. It is not clear when precisely the footage was from during the lengthy back-and-forth between Justice Department officials and Mr. Trump's advisers, or whether the subpoena to Mr. Trump seeking additional documents had already been issued.

So... there may be co-conspirators involved.

There are going to be co-conspirators in multiple criminal activities in which Trump himself either instigated or was implicated in.

And I also expect the RNC/GOP politicians to be indicted under RICO charges before the carousel of crime finally comes to a halt.

Intelligence Committee Rep. rubbishes Trump's claim of a 'standing order' to declassify documents as 'utter baloney'
news.yahoo.com

...Rep. Jim Himes, a Democratic member of the House Intelligence Committee, said that Donald Trump's claims that he had a "standing order" to declassify any documents he took are "utter baloney."

Himes told MSNBC that while the president is a declassifying authority, there is a "really elaborate documented process for declassification," which can often take months.

"Of course, he's going to say that because it creates a little bit of confusion and throws a bit of mud into the water. But I can tell you as someone who also sees the most sensitive information this country has, that's utter baloney."...

I can't keep the lies straight...

First his compound was "under siege" even though when he posted that the FBI was already gone.

Then the FBI planted evidence.

Then it was Benghazzi.

Then he already declassified it.

Then it was Hilary's bathroom server.

Then he already sent it back.

Then it was Obama's THIRTY MILLION nuculear (lots of people have said) documents.

Then it was executive privilege material even though he is no longer the executive.

Now, it's attorney client privilege material.

What will be the lie du-jour?

He's just throwing ketchup on the wall and seeing what sticks at this point.
