"According to The New York Times, Trump wanted Garland to know that he had been speaking with people around the country and that they were enraged by the FBI search.

"The country is on fire. What can I do to reduce the heat?" was the message Trump wanted to be conveyed to Garland, a person familiar with the exchange told the paper.

A person close to the former president reached out to a Justice Department official to give Garland the message, the paper reported. It is not clear if the message reached him.

Several people took to social media to suggest that Trump's message to Garland could be interpreted as a veiled threat.

Robert Maguire, a research director at the nonpartisan Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, said that the message appeared to suggest that Trump can "fan the flames of violence."

It's no nice to threaten Mother Garland.

More to the point, Merrick Garland sent Donnie Trump a message: eff around and find out.

Its pretty obvious he sent the message so to disassociate himself from any and all ensuing carnage.

Then he could go back and say, "Look, I didn't want the violence, see? I even sent Garland a note asking if there was anything I could do to help quell it!"

Exactly.

He did it with the 1/6 speech. Saying "march peacefully" in a speech loaded with rhetoric about fighting, bravery, taking the country back ect ect he said the word peaceful once.

And his cultists maintain to this day that that one word is proof he wasn't hoping for a riot.

The point of the wording was so he could blame violence directed at the fbi on the fbi

Trump thrives on chaos, so even if you took this statement to be genuine it's simply not believable that he wrote it or that it was his idea to communicate it.

In all likelihood there were several drafts of this, which Trump repeatedly made less apologetic and more vague, until this one made it out the door.

I look at it as less a veiled threat than a bribe: "What can I do to get out of this? Want me to put out the fire?"

Trump said he hadn't heard whether the Department of Justice had accepted his offer to help, but he then suggested that FBI agents had planted evidence during the search and called the investigation a politically motivated "hoax."

"I've never seen anything like this," Trump said. "It is a very dangerous time for our country. I will do whatever I can to help the country."

"Years of fake witch hunts and phony Russia, Russia, Russia schemes and scams," he added. "Nothing happens to those people who perpetuate that " nothing happens with them, ad then they break into a president's house " a sneak attack where it was totally " no one ever thought a thing like this would happen."

Looks like he is talking out both sides of his mouth. You can't say you want things to cool down and in the next sentence call this a sneak attack!

BS!!!!!!

NOW Trump has gone public with his threats....

"Former President Trump on Monday said his aides have reached out to the Department of Justice (DOJ) to offer "whatever we can do to help," saying the "temperature has to be brought down" after a spike in threats against law enforcement following the FBI's search of his Mar-a-Lago estate.

"Whatever we can do to help " because the temperature has to be brought down in the country," Trump told Fox News. "If it isn't, terrible things are going to happen."

At the same time that he talked about taking the temperature down, however, Trump repeated attacks on the FBI over the search for classified documents that took place at his Florida estate last week.

Trump defended his supporters' attacks in the interview, saying they are "not going to stand for another scam" and describing the FBI's past investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election as a "witch hunt."

"People are so angry at what is taking place," he said."

Trump as recently as Sunday evening called the search "abuse in law enforcement" and a "sneak attack on democracy" on TruthSocial.

"There has never been a time like this where law enforcement has been used to break into the house of a former president of the United States, and there is tremendous anger in the country " at a level that has never been seen before, other than during very perilous times," Trump told Fox News."

"People are so angry at what is taking place"

What a riot. Everyone in America knows EXACTLY what that means:

"Trump Angry!"

How can we bring down the temperature? - Trump
STFU - Garland

Typical Mafia protection racket-speak. Wow. What a criminal. The USA will never recover until Trump either strokes out or has a massive coronary.
...
It's like the country-and-western song:
"How can I miss you if you won't go away?"
Trump's pathological mental illnesses will never allow him to be anywhere but the center of attention.
