The GOP won't dial back now

They have been nurturing this monster for decades

These cretins won't settle for anything less than the destruction of America as we have known it

And the worst part is; if successful, they will still complain and blame it all on some faceless villain for robbing them of their entitlement(s)

Personally responsible my ass

If one side wants a civil war, the other side can't just say no. It only takes one side to declare war.

Rupert Murdoch brainwashed americas morons to think democrats want to destroy america and turn your kids gay. Morons think trump was their last chance. They'll fight, kill, and die to protect him.

The far left and far right actually share some of the same enemies... or they say they do.

Apparently, so far, those things in common have not been more important than the things they have let separate them.

One might think they could put aside some differences long enough to, oh, say, pass campaign finance reform and take back control of they people they send to Congress.

Charging an actual fair rate to big corporations for their use of public air waves to finance that reform is one way to do that.

America can and will recover after Trumpism is defeated.
Her political party however is circling the toilet bowl, with nothing to save it.

FTFY, Snoof...

To expound on the above- even though white supremacist authoritarianism has existed on the fringes of American culture and politics for a while, I believe that 9-11, subsequent military actions and the expansion of the MIC and security apparatus pushed it to the forefront.

#8 Agreed.

We did; they lost their minds.

And right now we are making the future look pretty scary.

If Trumpy is not punished it will just enable his cultist followers to continue with the lies.

And these lies are particularly dangerous.

Right now I don't see things getting better in my lifetime.

But I still won't bet against America. Still the greatest democracy ( Democratic Republic ok?) on earth even with all its problems.

One of Trump's lawyer's warns that criminally charging him would cause "so much mayhem":

Mehdi Hasan
@mehdirhasan
They don't even pretend to believe in the rule of law. It's just mob-like arrogance and implicit threats of violence all the way.

Ron Filipkowski
@RonFilipkowski

Trump's attorney asked about Trump getting criminally charged: "That would cause so much mayhem. That would be a monstrous mistake."

Of course not charging him will be a green light to more criminality and cause so much mayhem of a different kind.

As Lamp would say, this is not good:

Washington Post: 54 of 87 Republican nominees in the 2020 presidential battlegrounds are election deniers.

"[C]andidates who deny the legitimacy of [the 2020] election have claimed nearly two-thirds of GOP nominations for state and federal offices with authority over elections." This is not a drill.

It is not a good sign for future democracy when election deniers are elected, cause they then deny future elections.

Trumpism is like a colony of cockroaches in an apartment building that still uses garbage chutes down to an incinerator....you will never get rid of them all until you get rid of the conditions in which they breed... hate...racism...bigotry...xenophobia.

Just look at all the turds that this bowel movement has given rise to...

HoneyBoBo, Sporkfoot, Gosar, Tuberville, Herschel Walker, Cawthorn, Oz, Noem.

Then look at mental morons that have latched onto the movement and now cannot peel themselves away if they tried...

Gym Jordan, PedoGaetz, Cruz, Graham, Rand, Kari Lake, Stefanik, Paladino, Scott.

And countless governors and state and local trumptards that are now infesting our government at all levels.

Dotard didn't create the violent racists that are running the party now, but he created the environment that made them feel comfortable to expose themselves.

Those of us that can remember 1968 may remember that it was also a very turbulent time. A time when we thought America was on the brink and on the wrong path and that we would never recover.

Cities were burned then too. Worse than the 2020s. We were in a very bad war in which we looked like criminals. Assassinations and political turmoil. We thought it would never end.

But somehow we survived it. I do think we will survive this too but we will definitely be changed by it.

Just like we were changed by the 60s.

#16 | Posted by donnerboy at 2022-08-16 11:57 AM | Reply

Oh boy. Here, let me change that to a non-partisan, unobjective title for you, "Liberals Are Not Going to Recover from Donald Trump".

"But somehow we survived it. I do think we will survive this too but we will definitely be changed by it."

I sure hope so. However, the stark difference between then and now is that equal rights were actually a big problem back then. Today, equal rights aren't the problem, the lack of wanting to hold up your own responsibilities to enjoy equal rights is the problem. Back then, activists were fighting to be able to walk down the street without being harassed. Today they are fighting because, when walking down the street, nobody is throwing money or opportunities at them for nothing but the color of their skin, and then getting mad they aren't allowed to cause violence to them without being considered criminals and locked in jail.

Never seen that happen.

"Cheri Jacobus can claim to be one of the first Republican "Never Trumpers."

It doesn't matter. If you've voted Republican at the national level in the last 20 years, you've helped create this monster by proxy.

Yeah, but there are some good Lincoln Project memes and tweets to share. /s

Let's do a drug war on meth, have the CIA sell meth in the poor white areas, and purposefully target and lock up 1/3 of the fathers of white families. Then we can question why white people just can't seem to maintain a nuclear family or function in society like everyone else.

You know, since you're interested in "equality" and all.

It's been dying for a long time. Citizens United, the failure of Single Payer, SCOTUS taking away the power of the individual. It's over and it's not coming back. I'm not going to waste my time defending any of it anymore. For me it's open season on politics and the media. They all let us down.
