More from the cited article...

...In July 2020, the Trump administration abruptly directed hospitals to stop reporting all that data to the CDC and instead submit it to a new database run by the Pittsburgh-based software company TeleTracking Technologies. The little-known company had won a $10.2 million, six-month contract with the federal government, despite having no previous experience with setting up such a data-collection system. Before the award, the company had won only small contracts with the Department of Veterans Affairs for software that tracked the status of patients. The $10.2 million pandemic-era grant was over twenty times larger than all of the company's previous government grants combined....

So, fmr Pres Trump gave control of the hospital data to a Trump-friendly company.

Why ever would he want to do that?

"an inexperienced private company with ties to then-President Donald Trump. TeleTracking, which has personal ties to Trump, made over $50M in federal contracts."

I for one am shocked.

Why ever would he want to do that?

1. I am sure they contributed nicely to his PAC.
2. They could fudge the COVID numbers and make him look better than the abject failure he is.

"The transition to the new system was chaotic due to technical and administrative problems. Hospitals complained that they didn't have enough time to prepare and that they faced frustrating technical problems requiring intensive resources at a time when they were overwhelmed with patients. The result was unreliable data amid a public health crisis.

"We went dark at the same time we were getting close to what our previous peak was," Dave Dillon, vice president of media and public relations for the Missouri Hospital Association, told Healthcare IT News at the time. "Moving from a known platform that all of the individuals could easily manipulate ... has harmed our ability to have that situational awareness.""

Bingo.

Instead of trying to control covid, trump just wanted to control what we learned about covid.

His strategy is always to control messaging (aka LYING), not to offer solutions.

$50M, didn't Rick Scott steal more than that?

This is going to piss off DeSantis.

He's tried to pretend Covid doesn't exists since January 1st 2020.

Joe knows a guy that can provide the same service for only ten times that amount or assign it to be done internally for 20 times. Trump didn't invent grift or even excel at it like Joe.

The records being submitted to the CDC are public. Requiring hospitals to submit the data to a private entity complicated access to the data and made it harder for data analysts to get at it and analyze for trends and projections.

I am sure he does. Stealing and lying are easy. That is why conservatives excel at it. Being honest and creating value are much harder.

I am sure Joe "knows a guy", but we are not using that guy, are we. And Joe has not proposed we use that guy. Instead we are being stolen from and lied to by conservatives.

I know it will be a hard concept for you to grasp, but liberals are not honest just because we don't have the opportunity to be dishonest. Conservatives cannot imagine passing over an opportunity to screw someone over for personal gain. But liberals are honest because we choose to be. Not because we are not smart enough to steal. It is the other way around. Stupid people steal, because they are not intelligent enough to come up with ways of making the money honestly. For liberals, we are smart enough to make money honestly, so there is no need to risk jail or embarrassment by stealing.
