A Florida appellate court on Monday blocked a 16-year-old teenager from getting an abortion, saying that she is not "sufficiently mature" to choose to end her pregnancy.

A once decent state has declined to nearly unrecognizable under years of Republican "leadership." All because people moved down here so they didn't have to pay any State taxes, thought they could live cheap, demand services, never pay for them - and the only party promising that was the GOP. Then we had the toxic unification with the religious right nutters. It is just so damn depressing. We continue to fight on, though. Please people - 2022 is critical!

There has been no state income tax in Florida since 1924. Probably never but that was when the amendment to the Florida Constitution was passed.

As far as recruiting folks to live in Florida...you're saying 1 party did that only?

Really? I'll do some checking on that......of course, you're free to substantiate that assertion.

I mean....it would stand to reason that Florida has had at least some influence from democrats over the years. "Come to Florida" has been been advertised for how long?

I'm not arguing the presence and impact of the GOP in Florida.

I'm suggesting that Florida's policy of recruiting people is a long long longstanding policy.

Starting with the income tax.....been formally banned for 98 years now.

Oh, and air conditioning...which might be the single most significant factor in why folks live there year round rather than just the winter.

I wouldn't blame air conditioning, beaches, and no state income tax on a single political party.

which is what you did.

Reads to me like what Yav is saying is, people moving down to Florida were more inclined to vote for Republicans in order to avoid any state taxes and in hopes of living cheap. Which changed the politics of the state. Turning it into the kingdom of DeSantis.

What people like Eberly and BellyAche find horrible is your comments about republicans. That's why they commented. To protect their cult.

Because it's the essence of the GOP these days?

As bellyache will tell you, he votes for fascist Republicans because they represent him.

It's not him personally pulling the trigger, just people he enabled, so what's the big deal?

Because anyone that voted GOP should have this hung around their neck and made to own it?

People like Eberly vote for Republicans and then ignore the destruction they create. Once they cast their ballots, they're not responsible for the actions of their party.

No, I actually understand math. Including the fact we average ~10K retirements per day, and will for at least another 6-10 years. The last 2.5 years has goosed it, obviously, but that just means slightly less than 10K/day going forward.

But the State of Florida said "Nope. You aren't mature enough to make such decisions! You will be forced to have this child and care for it. That you are mature enough for!"

I talked about it in #81. Did you not see that? Or did you just want to avoid that?

That makes no sense.

Does anybody have an answer for those questions? She had a guardian sign off? Not good enough?

"Additionally, she argued that her legal guardian "is fine" with her decision to get an abortion."

lemme guess....there are problems with the accuracy of that statement from the 16 year old?

#94 was for #92.

#93 - I just read your response. I don't understand why the guardian has to be involved at all. I do because it's Florida and Florida is one of 5 states that requires parental notification, but consent from the guardian?

We'll see what happens. I bet the state pushes it out until she's 15 weeks pregnant and then she won't have a choice.

#97 | Posted by YAV at 2022-08-17 02:39 PM | Reply

The guardian didn't sign off - not from what I read.
I don't know how she got the guardian she did, or if that person's an anti-abortion lunatic.

This is funny....speakstupid keeps at this because he truly doesn't know the difference between a primary and a general election

100% the truth. He doesn't know the difference.

He just sees that I'm a registered republican and can't think beyond that.

Just like every trumper, you have to lie about your opponent.

Are you really expect anyone to believe that you don't for pro choice candidates in general elections?

You vote for anti choice candidates, then say youre pro choice because you dont want to have to defend the party that you elect's anti choice policies.

Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2020 signed into law a measure that made parental consent for an abortion a requirement for minors.

According to the appeal court's decision, the teen's guardian supports the teen's wish to get an abortion.

The teen, identified only as Jane Doe 22-B, has no parents but is in the care of Florida's child welfare agency and has a guardian. She is about 10 weeks pregnant and currently resides with a relative.

Jane Doe 22-B is not without options. Makar wrote that the teen was grief-stricken by the recent death of a friend and that Frydrychowicz was willing to re-evaluate the case in a few days.

"Reading between the lines, it appears that the trial court wanted to give the minor, who was under extra stress due to a friend's death, additional time to express a keener understanding of the consequences of terminating a pregnancy," Makar wrote. "This makes some sense given that the minor, at least at one point, says she was open to having a child, but later changed her view after considering her inability to care for a child in her current station in life."

"I don't understand why the guardian has to be involved at all. I do because it's Florida and Florida is one of 5 states that requires parental notification, but consent from the guardian?"

As mentioned in #81, the law says a provider needs written consent from a parent or legal guardian to perform an abortion on a minor.

"I don't know how she got the guardian she did,

She's under 18 and she's "parentless", so she needs to have a legal guardian. Unless she's an emancipated minor, which she obviously isn't. Maybe she was petitioning to become one?

Florida Court: Teen Not 'Mature' Enough to Get Abortion

Yeah. But she is mature enough to be a mother? How effin ridiculous is that?

I guess it never occurred to all of these conservatives that rail against welfare mothers that these anti-abortion laws are going to produce a lot more of them.

Give them a year or two to get their bearings. We're real close to them arguing that you have to be above the poverty line in order to qualify for the privilege of being a parent.

I don't know.

We literally have a 16 year old saying she can't afford a child, and the judges are telling her she's too immature to make such a decision.

In the end, conservatives need minimum wage workers.

This will guarantee them a labor pool in 16 years.

Sooner if they can reinstate child labor.

It's absurd they would make a 16 year old give birth to this child.
#78 | POSTED BY EBERLY

Absurd is a pretty absurd thing to call it:

1. wildly unreasonable, illogical, or inappropriate

2. arousing amusement or derision; ridiculous

How about something like barbaric, inhuman, Nazi-esque?
