We must speak the truth but, to me, I think the truth can wait until after her funeral. I do believe that Elizabeth understood but her role did not carry great power to make the changes that many believe should be made. I don't blame her for the wrongs of the past.

I too could cry about losing our land so the royals could raise sheep in Scotland a mere 300 + years ago but I ain't holding a grudge with Old Liz about it..The Queen was a figurehead with influence but no direct power. The British government has been a parliamentary democracy her entire reign. It has been centuries since Kings and Queens made the decisions in Britain..

When will we speak the ugly truth about our killing over 100,000 Iraqis for GWB administration's lie ("we know they have them, and we know where they are" Colin Powell, to the United Nations) about WMDs?

#5 still on that old baggage? Colin Powell. Guess what, he's dead. That is as played out as the JFK assassination. Get up with current events. We're trying to stop a fascist Trump takeover these days. Ukraine is trying to preserve their democracy from a brutal dictator. Climate change disasters left and right. Time to move on and move forward ...

That's what imperial powers tend to do, get the locals accustomed to the new way of doing things.

Really zip to do with the Queen, but any old hook will do for hat hanging.

Really zip to do with the Queen

I wasn't talking about the Queen. I wrote the word "empire". And it was an arrogant and unnecessarily brutal one.

Pakistan was British for like 100 years. The rest of India was like 200 years. And whatever we think they did to us was nothing compared to what they did to the rest of India. All the brutality and all the treasures stolen.. it all happen in the east side of "india".

To us they were just ------. To India, they were killers. Watch the first video I posted (15 minutes).

This explains the British sucking up to India all the time (have a look at the BBC International webpage as an example). There isa massive guilt complex going on.

Anyway... nothing to do with Queen herself. She was actually a powerless and nice person.

As has been indicated.

The whole imperial experience - that of the colonizers (of whom we hear so much - history's "winners," both short- and longterm - generally get to write the narrative) and the colonized (whose urgent message is often transmitted sub rosa) - therein lies the heady brew of national legacies.

Nonmembers--she's mentioned in the headline as part of the problem. As far As I can tell she did what she could with her limited power to fix what she could. I also think the government telling world leaders going to get funeral no private jets and they'll be bussed to the church is Charles' input.

Babyhuey:

Let's ask Iraqis if they are ready to "move on and move forward"...
It's not our place to criticize Britain. That would just expose us more as hypocrites.

"still on that old baggage? "

What a myopic statement. The lies of Iraq led directly to mistrust of the govt and the "deep state" which led to the election of Trump in the first place.

JFC, why are Americans so dumb when it comes to this?

It's hard to argue against the fact that, with the possible exception of the United States, nothing can surpass the advent of the British Empire as the most positive, civilizing force in human history. Think how backwards so much of the world would still be had it not been so heavily influenced by superior Anglo-Saxon concepts and values that, to this day, are helping so many former mud people share in a piece of global prosperity. Hell, we even have one posting on this thread! You think that would have happened organically through normal, evolutionary processes free from Western European influence? I think not, Good Sir.

Pssst most of the Native died before America even existed thanks to disease brought by the Spanish and most slaves went to Brazil.

-America slaughtered millions of indigenous peoples.

You mean "Americans"?

We squared ourselves with that a long time.

Slavery is considered our sin.

Not the murdering of "indigenous peoples".

The casinos and free whiskey and cigs squared that.

Howard Zinn is closer to the truth than, e.g. Project 1776 or anything else the GOP is pushing.

What did they do with it? Nothing of any significance.

Like 1619? LOL.

Howard Zinn was a sophist and an -------- whose tripe appeals mostly to the inchoate worldviews of college sophomores who desperately wish to identify as "intellectuals".

Howard Zinn was fortunate enough to inherit a Western Civilization created by men far superior than he. Some of the the downsides of such a comfortable civilization include the inevitable Decadence---and adopted edgy Self-Loathing that people like Howard Zinn have the luxury of exploring.

You can make a good living in Academia dabbling in nonsense "Revisionism" that tears down the good while exalting the inferior, trivial, or insignificant as a valid intellectual pursuit.

It's like if I wrote an Autobiography of Pinche Mao----but as told through the eyes of my ---------:

Often I was hot and sweaty.
Sometimes I was cold and shriveled.
Mostly it was dark
Occasionally I itched and was scratched
Sometimes I got banged around pretty hard and it hurt
I was often in the mouths of various comely lasses, early on
Then only in the mouth of a certain comely lass
Then, gradually, not in anyone's mouth anymore as the years progressed.
I remember being drug across Boyd's face a few times

Fin

The above is certainly A ---------s's History of Pinche Mao, but it's not really anything of importance or substance.

But a gig like that pays a lot in Academia.
