From the NYT this morning:

... as the West continues to ratchet up sanctions against the Kremlin, the Russian president on Thursday saw Mr. Xi - who had pledged a friendship with "no limits" just three weeks before Russia invaded - conspicuously withhold any public support for Mr. Putin's war.

Instead, in a statement issued after their meeting, China said it was "willing to work with Russia to demonstrate the responsibility of a major country, play a leading role, and inject stability into a turbulent world." To scholars who study the between-the-lines messaging of the Chinese government's public remarks, it sounded like an implicit rebuke.

Bow until your head cracks the floor, Vlad, then, maybe, the khan will give you a whiff of a smile. Such a disappointment, all that bowing, scraping, and total humiliation. What you think your "big brother" wants now, eh, "little brother"?

I have been, and I remain, concerned about how Pres Putin will go forward.

How much worse will a cornered Pres Putin get in order to reverse the direction of the war back into Russia's favor?

Pres Putin said that those recent missile attacks on civilian infrastructure were warning shots...

He should be taken at his word. IMHO.

NATO is making this far worse than it had to be. All for a "country" that isn't even a member.

@#6 ... NATO is making this far worse than it had to be. ...

Pres Putin made it worse than it had to be by his unprovoked invasion of a sovereign Ukraine.

Pres Putin continues to make it worse than it had to be by continuing his unprovoked invasion of a sovereign Ukraine.

(I see the list of talking points you've been receiving hasn't gotten any better...)

I think Xi is way more upset over the failure of the Russian invasion then he is over the fact Putin did it. Because that failure makes it harder now for Xi to invade Taiwan.

There's also the optics that Pres Xi has to deal with.

In a month or so, he has to face his party's convention, and his association on the world stage with a loser such as Pres Putin detracts from his highly polished image.

Probably a minor thing, but it is there.

Did NATO really betray Russia?

Spoiler: Nope.

Just because when Putin calls, Xi says, 'Who?' doesn't mean he's embarrassed to be seen with him.

But don't despair, Vlad... you'll always have EffettePooty.

Making it worse for WHO? Russians? Certainly not Ukrainians. I just finished reading an article on the mass graves and Russian torture chambers.
