Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, September 20, 2022

The group of Venezuelan migrants flown from Texas to Martha's Vineyard, Mass., last week by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) filed a class-action suit against the governor and the state's transportation secretary on Tuesday.

"These immigrants, who are pursuing the proper channels for lawful immigration status in the United States, experienced cruelty akin to what they fled in their home country," the suit alleges.

"Defendants manipulated them, stripped them of their dignity, deprived them of their liberty, bodily autonomy, due process and equal protection under law, and impermissibly interfered with the Federal Government's exclusive control over immigration in furtherance of an unlawful goal and a personal political agenda," it continues.

The suit, filed in a federal trial court in Massachusetts, asks a judge to declare DeSantis's relocations illegal under the Constitution as well as federal and state laws. It also asks the judge to prevent Florida from inducing immigrants to travel across state laws by fraud and misrepresentation.

Well, it's still a long way from filing to adjudication, but the very fact a US Governor finds himself not only under multiple investigations but also the named defendant in a federal lawsuit usually isn't something their campaign manager would want to see 50 days out from an election.

Never in the history of America have the two leading presidential candidates of a major party BOTH had multiple criminal investigations going at the same time.

Whenever you read "migrants", think legal asylum seekers conned with a Trump U. type brochure of lies and then kidnapped.

Because that's who they are.

Well, they are serious. Let's see where this heads.

I didn't see an an amount requested.

What do you think they can get for actual damages?

Punitive is likely the real ask, right?

From what DeSanits claims, all "migrants" signed consent forms, were given maps of MV, and numbers to call.

If the migrants had a case it would be MV moving "free" asylum seekers to a military compound to be detained. Seems like this would be against their civil rights.

But hey anything to get back at DeSantis.

Looks like it more and more each day. The Special Master wasn't having any of Trump's lies today. DeSantis is facing multiple investigations, civil and criminal. Today was a much needed good day for justice and the rule of law.

Got another one:
MAGA - Making Attorneys Get Attorneys. That's one more part of Trump's legacy. A legacy firmly rooted in Republican malfeasance.

There were roughly 142 people indicted in the three GOP presidents (Nixon, Reagan, Trump). There has been a total of TWO under the Democrats (Carter, Clinton, Obama).

The Republicans have been screaming who they are for decades. Maybe someday we'll hear them?

Please reread the paragraph preceding that remark. I intentionally noted criminal investigations in that paragraph, in contrast to the civil action of this lawsuit.

DeSantis has at least 2 separate criminal investigations ongoing and I don't have the fingers and toes to count how many Trump has going at present.

Let's broaden the horizon and see what we find.
Presidential Democrats - 28 Years - 7 Indictments - 3 Convictions - 1 Prison Time

Presidential Republicans - 28 years - 126 Indictments - 113 Convictions - 39 Prison Time

Republicans had 38 TIMES more convictions than did Democrats.

Now tell us again, WHICH party is the true party of law and order?

UPDATE: In response to the class action lawsuit, DeSantis has released the "consent forms" allegedly signed by the migrants. But the lawsuit alleges DeSantis and his accomplices went to extraordinary lengths to coerce migrants into signing these forms.

Specifically, the lawsuit alleges that migrants, who were suffering from food insecurity, were gathered together and told they could receive $10 McDonald's gift cards if they signed the form. They were not told what the form was or given time to read it.

The lawsuit alleges that not all of the form was even translated into Spanish. And the document released by DeSantis backs that up. A significant portion was not translated.

In a statement, DeSantis said the migrants that were targeted were "homeless" and "hungry." This further substantiates the claims in the lawsuit. (Document photos at link below)

It's 11 o'clock so it must be time to tell Bellringer to READ THE LAWSUIT and you'd get the answers!

Upon arrival in Martha's Vineyard, Plaintiff Yanet Doe felt helpless, defrauded, and desperate. She started crying. She felt anxious and confused. As a result, she suffered from lack of sleep and vertigo."

One plaintiff with an 11-year-old was promised "permanent housing, work, educational resources for her son, and help changing her address for immigration proceedings."

Defendants completely abandoned the class members. They did not travel with the class members or connect them to or arrange for any services on arrival. When those induced onto the planes disembarked in Martha's Vineyard, it turned out that no one was expecting their arrival, and uncertainty quickly ensued. In Texas, the Doe Defendants had given telephone numbers to Plaintiffs and told them to call with any questions. But once the planes landed in Massachusetts, the Doe Defendants were suddenly nowhere to be found and unreachable by phone. Destitute and stranded, the Plaintiffs were now even more vulnerable to precarious conditions.

To date, none of the Defendants has provided the individual Plaintiffs or putative class members with any of the employment, permanent housing, or immigration assistance they were promised.

So, they travel 2000 miles through incredibly harsh conditions and then get flown on a air-conditioned plane to one of the nicest pieces of land in the US - one that offers sanctuary, no less - and THEN suffered from a lack of sleep and vertigo because what they were shipped to was a bit less awesome than what they were anticipating? How does MV and the base they were "relocated" to compare with the conditions they fled?

Like I said, this lawsuit has to be satire.

Arrests at Southwestern Border Exceed 2 Million in a Year for the First Time

Sept. 19, 2022

For the first time, the number of arrests of undocumented immigrants along the southwestern border exceeded two million in one year, according to newly released government data, continuing a historic pace of undocumented immigrants coming to the country.

The number of arrests at the border increased slightly from July to August, with a total of more than 2.1 million for the first 11 months of the 2022 fiscal year, which ends on Sept. 30.

www.nytimes.com

How can the borders be "open" while record numbers of arrests are occurring?

Must be talking about Uranus, certainly not here on Earth. 80% of today's southern border immigrants are escapees from Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba - three communist governments with which the US has no diplomatic immigration relationships that keeps us from working out deals with other intermediary nations - such as the stay in Mexico agreements - as they report for asylum. Until Congress acts, the President's hands are tied.

This is not to say that Biden has done or is doing everything possible either. He has been reticent to take some ameliorative actions requested by US immigration officials. But the flow of immigrants is unprecedented not because of Biden's actions, but because of the abhorrent conditions in the countries where the vast majority of asylum seekers are coming from which has manifested in more than 6 million people fleeing from their home countries. They can't walk to Europe or Asia, where else are they supposed to go?

Bellringer, I seriously thought you might be offended by people thinking you weren't very smart. Stop and think instead of simply reacting to things taken out of context.

These people in San Antonio WERE HUNGRY! They had no food nor money. A person on the street offered them gift cards as an inducement to gain their trust so that they would then size them up to see if they were right for the relocation scheme. That is why the gift cards were mentioned.

After that, they were lied to and told they could take a trip and have jobs, shelter, and resources along with assistance in their immigration filings and cases. These things were lies. It is criminal to induce someone to do something - especially cross state lines - on false pretenses when their lives are negatively impacted and the offered benefits are not given. Its called inveiglement and it's a legal term and against Massachusetts' law.

It's only a little different than a stranger enticing a child to enter his vehicle with promises of candy, toys and a trip to the zoo and then taking them to a distant town and leaving them stranded on a corner.

Biden inherited a relatively stable (comparatively stable might be more accurate) and then either completely reversed or paired back every policy that made it so.

Further, on the campaign trail he announced migrant caravans would be welcomed with open arms and during the primary debate he (along with every other Dem on the stage) raised his hand when asked if they supported free health care for "undocumented migrants" (Orwellian at its finest).

His policies have created a massive humanitarian crisis with these record-setting numbers of illegal aliens gaining entry. And Tony Roma thinks he's being tough at the border with a mostly 'catch and release' policy.

Funny folks around here make it seem as though Biden has been forcing victims of communism to run from their victimization into the arms of American liberty and we're supposed to sit back and say "No more! We need -------------- to save us from Communism!"

I hate to do this, but I'm going to channel Speaksoftly for a minute here. This is why Democrats lose elections - they do not understand the power of messaging! Biden touched on this today. The average American has no idea why so many migrants are streaming over our borders at present - more than at any time in history. He needs to have a national address in the next few weeks and carefully explain in detail what he said briefly today. It's not the usual mix of Mexicans and Central Americans flocking to our southern border, it's legions of people escaping communism and tyrannical governments in hopes of seeking better lives for themselves and their children.

And this is happening at the very same moment in time where our economy still cannot get back to full strength because we're short millions of workers for all the current available jobs! You'd think someone would put 2 and 2 together and come up with a solution that benefits both America and these immigrants who only are looking to work. But as long as Republicans can use immigrants as political pawns, nothing positive is going to happen. And if the majority of Americans remain ignorant of the actual dynamics at play, they'll likely keep blaming Democrats for what actually is the cynical exploitation and vilification of asylum seekers most of whom are actually trying to follow US law once they present themselves to authorities and enter the legal asylum process - which all have to do unless they plan on trying to work illegally.

Further, on the campaign trail he announced migrant caravans would be welcomed with open arms and during the primary debate he (along with every other Dem on the stage) raised his hand when asked if they supported free health care for "undocumented migrants"

Good lord. Link please. And hasn't this pandemic proven anything to you about the need for comprehensive PUBLIC HEALTH for everyone? Or how sickness and disease spreads when people lack access to healthcare resources, on top of the fact this nation has a law put on the books by Reagan that makes it illegal for anyone to be turned away from public hospitals? If people without access to healthcare wait until they land in the ER, treating them then is the most expensive way of doing so, and all the costs are borne by taxpayers?

You really are incapable of seeing the big picture without always placing a political template on things, can you? Everything I've said on this thread remains the same whether the President or Congress is controlled by either party. These are universal issues, not partisan ones. The problems are ubiquitous. Of course, one of Biden's first orders of business was to end 'remain in Mexico.'

And a judge reinstated it and the Administration just received court permission to end it less than 45 days ago. And if you'd have bothered to notice, these immigrants aren't apart of the stay in Mexico program because they come from nations that have no agreements with either the US or Mexico. I just explained this to you.

Believe it or not, unlike Trump, Biden understands international laws and cooperation treaties. The US cannot just wave its hands and get what it wants. This is precisely why Biden needs to address the nation and explain to us exactly what's going on right now as it regards the southern border dynamics.

#56 Empathy?

Do you realize how much drug, sex and human TRAFFICKING (look it up, Alexandrite) occurs with illegal immigration? Do you realize how many women are raped and how many kids are sold into underground ------- and how much fentanyl is moved into this country through this process? Do you know how many people die due to exposure to the elements (over 50 in the back of one semi trailer alone). It's all proportional to how many people come here. The bigger the numbers results in a proportional increase in all of the nasty stuff. Most left-wingers lack the empathy to talk about any of that and address the horrific realities of it. Thousands of people taking shelter under a large bridge to try and escape the heat because facilities are so overwhelmed by the sheer volume of people that it's the only short-term viable option.

To progressive lefties ALL of that is good, but God Damn, ship 50 people to Martha's Vineyard and it's treated like a train-ride to Auschwitz funded by taxpayers and $10 gift cards to McDonalds.

This is why Democrats lose elections....The average American has no idea why so many migrants are streaming over our borders at present - more than at any time in history

Actually, Democrats lose elections because of the mentality you just exhibited in your post above.

There is no ongoing "crisis" in Latin America any different from what has existed in the last 100 years. They're poorer countries with less stable governments than the United States. That's not a "crisis". That's just global reality.

The delta is the sudden arrival of an Administration who is fully dedicated to a globalist agenda of "open borders" and both implicitly and explicitly encourages mass migration without consequences.

So here they come, en masse.

That's why your "arrests are up" talking point is such risible --------. Of course arrests are up. The same reason the French-based Wermacht's ammunition budget went up in early June 1944.

What's happening at the border is real, It's tangible. It is ------- with the lives of the people who live there every single day. That's why those blue counties are turning red.

I love that we're having a national conversation about it some 6 weeks before a national election.

Keep it up.

#64 Tony Roma,

Remain in Mexico required asylum seekers to remain in Mexico until their asylum court dates. It's was a joint policy between the US and Mexico and it was effective. In no way did it violate any international laws or treaties.

"yeah, immigration was "stable" during the trump years when we were torturing children by putting them in cages and having them sleep on concrete floors." - Alexandrite

The infamous picture of "kids in cages" was from 2014. More importantly, with Biden's policies these facilities were operating at 700% capacity - I guarantee the conditions in these detention facilities were worse under Biden than his predecessor because of the sheer number of people.

You really are not very good at this.

Remain in Mexico policy also afforded those seeking asylum to actually attend their court hearings on time, considering they were not relocated to some random place they didn't know they were headed. Nor were there "officials" filling out the asylum seekers' paperwork, forging addresses that were on the complete opposite side of the country, guaranteeing the asylum seekers an inability to attend said hearings, leading to immediate deportation.

Oh, but no persuasion based on false pretenses took place in the current situation, right?

Injury
Illnesses
Product liability

You're leaving off unlawful confinement, fraudulent inducement, and inveiglement.

And you're forgetting these people were all supposed to report to immigration offices within 36 hours and the collaborators took them from the jurisdiction without any way of getting to the correct destinations in time - hence their very rights to seek legal asylum were intentionally deprived them by the collaborators.

Seems pretty injurious to me.

Of course, none of you understand the rationale BEHIND separating kids from "parents". It has a little something to do with human and sex trafficking and establishing that these parents, or in most cases "guardians", actually have ties to the children. Designed to protect them from adult predators.

Let's not forget that this process is more manageable when the volume of people is a more manageable number. Nah, we can't talk about that!

Further, we have established ports of entry for this type of thing. Here is where the lefty self-contradiction comes into play. If EVERY person who crosses the southern border were to file for asylum why even have border patrol? Why have any kind of physical barrier? Heck, why even bother with passports, customs and VISA's when anyone who wants can enter this country through an underground railroad, apply for asylum and then do whatever they want?

In no way did it violate any international laws or treaties.

There is no debating with you because you refuse to take facts for facts.

On March 4, 2020, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ordered the "Remain in Mexico" program halted in the states under its jurisdiction, on the presumption that it violates statutory law;

On August 14, 2021, a federal judge in Texas ordered a resumption of the Trump-era border policy that required migrants to remain in Mexico until their US immigration court date.[25][26] The court ruled the reversal may have violated the Administrative Procedure Act which prevents arbitrary regulations, because it did not consider various facts.[25] A stay to block the re-enforcement of the "Remain in Mexico" policy was denied by both the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.[27][28] As result of the Supreme Court ruling, the U.S. government is now required to re-enforce the policy.[29]

After completion of negotiations with the government of Mexico, the Biden administration announced resumption of the practice on December 2, 2021, with some alterations.[30][31] On June 30, 2022 the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in Biden v. Texas, that the Biden administration had the authority to end the policy.[32][33]

The wind-down allowed migrants into the United States only after their next court hearing, and only if they were not deported.[34] This resulted in thousands of people staying in Mexico for weeks or months after the program was officially ended, and many missed their court dates due to travel difficulties. One advocate called this delay "a little cruel", and the government was criticized for accepting over 21,000 refugees from the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine at the Mexican border during the same timeframe without this restriction.[34]

en.wikipedia.org

The case of legality was mooted by the SCOTUS' decision allowing the Administration to end the program administratively.

Some ---- named Perla, apparently. If not her, someone else did, as that's part of the lawsuit:

Well, we are still in the midst of providing our full range of legal assistance. First of all, individuals need help with their individual immigration cases. One of the truly appalling parts of this whole incident is that people are now far away from where they need to be in order to appear for immigration hearings. They were told again by folks who were pretending to offer assistance that the immigration issues would be taken care of. When they were concerned about leaving Texas, where they knew that they had to go for an immigration hearing, some as early as Monday, that was a deep concern to our clients. And they were told they didn't have to worry about that. Now, of course, they do, and we are helping them to resolve those issues.
www.npr.org
"They were told, You have a hearing in San Antonio, but don't worry, we'll take you to Boston,'" said Ivn Espinoza-Madrigal, the executive director for Lawyers for Civil Rights Boston. He said dozens of the migrants had told his team they only had been informed midair that they were going to land in tony Martha's Vineyard rather than Boston.
www.nytimes.com

I'm just as curious as you are, however, it's clear someone from DeSantis or Abbott's camp were misleading these folks knowing doing so would impede them from attending their asylum hearings, more than likely leading to deportation.

You can't be a contemporary democrat and profess that you "love" America.

Progressive Doctrine decrees that America is irredeemably racist and misogynist and can only be salvaged by destroying what has been built and replacing it with something else.

The Democrat party is currently under strict control of those who subscribe to Progressive Doctrine.

Ergo, you can't be a contemporary democrat and profess that you "love" America.

Self said that she verified with her clients who had wrong addresses and they all said they told agents they had no address in the U.S.

"When you look at them, there is no way that any of these people would get the addresses they did," said Self, who again said migrants had addresses in places like Seattle, Utah or Tacoma, Washington. "The addresses that were provided were for refugee office buildings ... they weren't intake centers."

"Whether it's nefarious, inept, lazy or just, I don't know. But when you're dealing with people I think it's important to cross your T's and dot your I's," she added.

The claim from attorneys that DHS had been giving false addresses drew attention from some Republicans, including U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, who tweeted on Saturday that he would be requesting answers from DHS. In a statement to the Herald/McClatchy DC, Rubio said he had not yet received any response.

"DHS refuses to answer simple questions about what happened and why. President Biden's policies created this crisis, and his administration needs to be held accountable for every part of the response," Rubio said.

Wow, so that's now Biden's fault as well. Whelp, wouldn't have been had DeSantis and Abbott not persuaded folks to board a plane/bus on false pretenses. Again and again, "But this language was not translated into Spanish."

Whoops! Deliberate stupidity you say?

"As we have said, coordination with any receiving city is imperative for the safety of migrants and the communities receiving them," a DHS spokesperson said. "DHS, including ICE and CBP, has not been involved with these recent actions. Unlike these governors, we are not in the business of using vulnerable men, women, and children as props for a political stunt."

DEI (CRT) and "Anti-racism" doctrine is proliferating across the country like Covid. Attempts are being made to indoctrinate children at a very young age into this 'cultural Marxism' and parents are pushing back and being deemed domestic terrorists by the state for their efforts.

Nope, all he's got is homophobia and willful ignorance. He's proven both on this thread numerous times.

And for some odd reason, he refuses to swallow it!

" parents were deemed domestic terrorists because they were threatening people."

Bellringer, that's been pointed out several times, over months and months, which begs the question:

Why do you keep going back to proven lies?

Once means you made a mistake. Again and again mean you're pushing the mistake.

Of course, none of you understand the rationale BEHIND separating kids from "parents". It has a little something to do with human and sex trafficking and establishing that these parents, or in most cases "guardians", actually have ties to the children. Designed to protect them from adult predators.

#88 | POSTED BY BELLRINGER

Trump told us: Deliberately rip the children and parents apart at the border to keep them from coming back. Reinstate the policy and make it harsher.

Trump told us: Gas migrants at the border to keep them away & electrify the Wall to shock them if they touch it.

Trump told us: Shoot migrants in the legs at the border to slow them down.

Trump told us: Make the spikes on top of the Wall so sharp that they pierce human flesh in the most gruesome way to scare away other migrants. Make sure there are pictures of it.

Trump told us: Let's look at sending illegal immigrants to the terrorist prison at Guantanamo Bay.

Trump told us: Build a castle-like mote across the border in front of the Wall.

Trump told us: Deploy alligators & snakes in the border "mote" to attack migrants. How much would it cost to maintain that?

Miles Taylor - Former Trump DHS Chief of Staff

Biden is a vegetable and a prop.

He is not influencing public policy in any significant way. His public persona is simply being managed by the people who are.

The fact you clearly didn't hear it the first seven times it was posted.

Why do you post stuff after you've been shown it's a bald-faced lie?

It's a serious question, and the reason you are so often accused (correctly) of being intellectually dishonest.

Why, Bellringer? You know the only time parents were accused of being "domestic terrorists" was when they acted like domestic terrorists. Why do you keep misrepresenting the truth?

"-------"

Interesting terminology. My first memory of the term is the 60's. My uncle was a DJ on the local country station (we had two, the other mostly did top 40). He did a morning show similar to today's morning radio. Just jokes, stupid stuff intermixed with news and music. He liked to bag on his advertisers.

One I remember is about the guys at the gas station just west of the railroad tracks on Bonham St. He bagged on them about whatever funny s**t and said they were "-------s". It was a joke. It did not have anything to do with race or ethnicity. It was a ---- joke.

Trump's becoming toxic. Not fast enough, and not toxic enough, but toxic. DuhSantis is positioned perfectly to step in. The truth is that DuhSantis is even more toxic to our nation than Trump. Trump's just more toxic to other Republican politicians.

Your party and it's allies have spent years screaming at volume 11 that Trump is the worst human being ever and is an existential threat to not only this country but to mankind. It has been disturbingly obsessive. Then throw in the more objective stuff with Trump - the grift, sleazy business dealings, the grade A narcissism, the braggadocio, the extreme offensiveness and overall baggage. Then add it all up.

Once that is done put DeSantis on stage. Faithfully married to a lovely woman with three cute kids. Middle class guy who displays toughness and while certainly punches at the press and his opposition does it in a much more disciplined manner than Trump. He's no unicorn. He's divisive but less so than Trump.

Now, with the compare and contrast how in the world is your party going to credibly make the case that this guy is somehow worse than Trump? It can't be done and if that is the tactical strategy it's destined to fail.

There isn't any more of a 'crisis' on the southern border now than there's been in the past. BP is arresting more undocumented immigrants largely because there are a lot more Border Patrol agents. Sensor and camera detection technology and quantity have improved. Plus record keeping has vastly improved. My first year in the BP, 1992, we caught 1.1 million people with just over 4,000 agents. My first night in the field I arrested a dozen and watched hundreds run away. Now there are almost 20,000 agents in the BP. The agency is more effective. Relax, the country isn't being overrun by foreigners.
