Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, September 21, 2022

Video by Johnny Harris and Michelle Cottle: One thing is certain: The 2020 race was not stolen. But Mr. Trump and his Republican enablers have been working to rig future elections to their advantage. The former president has convinced his followers that the electoral system has been so corrupted that the only way to save America is for MAGA patriots to take over the system to ensure that the "right" candidates win going forward. In this short film, we shine a light on those machinations, so that those who care about democracy can act to stop them.

For the past two years, Americans have been overwhelmed by a deluge of headlines suggesting democracy in the United States is under threat: Voter suppression. A shortage of drop boxes. Election deniers seeking key state offices. It can be difficult to gauge what stories suggest a truly terrifying threat to democracy, and which are simply disheartening or even petty. The Opinion Video film above aims to unpack one of the most dire threats to democracy, which includes a sophisticated plot to control not only who can vote, but which votes get counted.

For our Democracy to survive, we need to agree on a shared reality and for the losers - that is those who lose in honest and fair elections - to accept defeat.

Is this really something that needs to be relearned in right wing circles all across America? Do people realize that before Donald Trump came on the scene there were never broad allegations - and never an iota of substantive evidence - of widespread vote fraud in numbers that would effect any state's presidential election results?

There's a simple and inescapable reason why: Americans vote one person at a time. There simply is no way to corrupt or compromise thousands of votes one person at a time when every registered voter has to follow existing laws to provide the proper documentation proving their legal right to cast one ballot per election. If someone tries to fraudulently impersonate an otherwise legal voter, that person would be found out if that same legal voter his or herself turns in a ballot - something that no impersonator or conspiracy of impersonators could anticipate and account for with certainty. This is why almost every single attempt to stuff ballots has been perpetrated by one or a very few individuals because a large group of fraudsters would almost self-expose themselves due to the absolute reality of double votes emerging traced right back to them.

The manner in which we register and vote - individually, with redundant safeguards - protects and insures that no widescale vote fraud can be introduced into any election without the almost certainty of being found out and exposed.

Not only that, but if you actually vote and you remember every vote you cast for all the races including state rep, district attorney, judges, school board, city council, etc...all the local races and you watch the results unfold throughout the evening to see how all the races finish, how can you conclude the Presidential election was jammed with shenanigans but your state rep race (which in many many cases around the country can be decided by less than 50 votes) NOT be rigged?

If someone is going to mess with my vote for president, they're going to mess with ALL the votes I cast that day and that would impact those local races long before it would make a dent in the presidential election.

Even if we narrowed our suspicions to swing states and the local races in those states.......where are the suggestions of vote tampering for school board in the countless races in Ohio, Georgia, and Wisconsin?

How do you convince so many dolts of voter fraud if they actually vote and follow the races? How do they misunderstand the process so badly?

How many of the -------- involved in J6 didn't even vote?

Deplorables didn't arrive at the conclusion the election was stolen from Trump by following their minds.

Deplorables arrived at the conclusion the election was stolen from Trump by following their hearts.

If you've ever been in love -- especially with someone who doesn't love you back -- you know it can blind you to the truth.

Whatever your guess is, it will be very wrong. You're objectively terrible at knowing who voted.

Beverley's made a good point and you should be able to acknowledge that.

And he made no guess at anything.

yesterday he says I dont vote. He said it just as confidently as he said 1/6 terrorists don't vote.

Any point he makes is pure luck, because he spouts total lies with total confidence.

as you can see, Speak has another point. He chases me from thread to thread to accuse me of voting for people I don't vote for and haven't for a dozen+ years.

Despite his childish trolling....I hope we can stay on point.

While I am concerned about the general premise of the article, I am also confident that the large majority of Americans will realize that the false claims of rigged elections can cut both ways, that Der Dotard's problem with stolen documents and the legal issues of his toadies are factual and that a criminal cabal has been at work to try to steal freedom from Americans.

No one can explain how an election was stolen from the GOP candidate yet when GOP candidates win that their elections were all conducted in a clean, above-board manner.

No one can explain how stolen secret documents had any purpose at Chez Trump and Country Club, 18 months after Der Dotard left office, without recognizing that a crime was committed.

No one can explain how, time after time, Trump-related creeps get convicted of criminal offenses in court after court, often in cases presided over by Trump-appointed judges.

There may be political violence in our nation's future because of the Trump Derangement Syndrome providing gun-toters, the Red Hat Gang and ex-cops reason to go into the street, but the large majority of our fellow citizens will soon enough make their voices heard, and the MAGA crowd will be quickly on the wane...

yes I know how badly you'd like for your obvious lies to be buried. But every now and then you say something so stupid that I enjoy remind you about it for weeks. Me not voting is one of those times. Especially since you said it with such confidence.

You claim you didn't vote for trump. Perhaps you did, perhaps you didn't. But occams razor - a person who spends every day attacking biden, attacking dems, parroting trump propaganda, deflecting from trump's crimes, is a person that votes for trump over biden.

Even if you didn't vote for him directly, which I highly doubt given your posting history, you definitely vote for the party that is nothing more than his cult now and protects him from all accountability, so you do still strong support him.

The G.O.P. doesn't want to destroy "the country." Just the part that keeps them from winning elections and pocketing America's great wealth. Every time they take two steps forward, some honest Democrat comes along and pulls the rug out from under their feet.

The G.O.P. just decided that Russia has a better system, so they hired the most corrupt man they could find to pull off the job. Sure, there have been a few speed bumps along the way ~ like the man they picked being a total narcissistic sociopath and a born looser ~ but hey, it was worth the effort just to get a foot in the door.

They still have a couple more years to finish the groundwork, state by state, and maybe stage a few more riots or maybe kill a public figure or two to hammer home the point but hey, hope springs eternal. What's a little collateral damage, when the rewards are so great.

My point? Vote accordingly. Too late can come sooner than you think.

BTW, don't think you're going to hold onto your guns. The last thing an autocracy wants is an armed population getting any ideas about a revolt.

total narcissistic sociopath and a born looser

That would go well on his "business" card.

I think they (the GOP) just applied Occam's Razor to their
strategy, 'the simplest answer more times than not, works'.

If Americans no longer believe the lie of Trickle Down Economics,
lie to them and tell them its now Supplied Side Economics and that
it still works.

If redneck GOP are stupid and easily distracted, remind them of brown
people at the southern border, instigate alarm about mythical democrats
coming over the hill to take their precious 42 guns away (we only want
to take away the machine guns [and yes, because we don't trust you with them]).

If playing legally doesn't work, CHEAT in elections, because winning
is more important than country...

Awww...I always have a soft spot for those with low intelligence who can't differentiate between fact and opinion. And those who obviously only read headlines from media outlets that agree with their narrative. If they didn't, they would see "How Dems are trying to destroy Democracy" all over the place, too.

But, keep on making your political decisions based off of opinionated articles that offer very little empirical evidence and only pick and choose current events based on how they can spin them to form an opinionated conclusion. That is really helping our country a lot! Kudos!
