Yeah introducing kids to drag acts isn't weird or anything.

I also think they should all be introduced to adult nudity.

........What?

You guys should really read the articles you comment on.

The Looney Tunes were originally made for adults, not children. The use of "drag" in them was meant for humor.

Child molesters seem most prevalent amongst priests.

Taking your children to church is basically asking for them to get raped.

If drag queens aren't the funniest people you've ever met, there's something wrong with you.

Drag is a performance, it's a persona. It's a lifestyle.

It's over the top and bigger than life.

It has zero to do with sex.

That's your projection.

The Obama's did that?

"If drag queens aren't the funniest people you've ever met, there's something wrong with you."

So the lesson that drag shows teach children is that people who don't fit gender norms are supposed to be "funny"? Like clowns at the circus, eh?

"Drag is a performance, it's a persona. It's a lifestyle."

Pole dancing and stripping are also just a performance/persona/lifestyle.

I'm surprised you would use this cartoon.

You do know Elmer was so furious he was fooled by Bugs in drag he killed the character in the opera?

Clown,

I do wonder if children who see drag queens not in the context where drag shows first originated might think of them as clowns.

It's when they start trying to hide under the "transgender" label as if they have anything in common with genuine transgendered people I get offended.

I'm not sure what point you think you're making here. They're entertainment jobs, just like drag queens are. More often aimed at adults than not.

"Elmer got pissed when he learned he had professed his love for someone tucking bunny ears."

This is the point where others in this thread will feign skepticism at the idea of there being subtext/allegory in Looney Tunes cartoons.

#23 | Posted by sentinel at 2022-09-22 10:14 PM | Reply

Yav,

Elmer killed the character after learning she was a he.

Not exactly a shining example of social acceptance of drag queens.

That was my whole point in saying I was surprised that clip was being used to show support for drag queens on this thread.

#24 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2022-09-22 10:14 PM | Reply

He got pissed because he'd been fooled by his prey and made a fool of - and if you knew the story of Brunhilde - a shield maiden.

Brunhilde is a strong, mighty, powerful queen that orchestrates the death of Siegfried after Siegfried deceives her into marrying Gunther. She has a fight with Sigfried's wife (I think) and has him killed. She then kills herself or doesn't depending on what version you're following. Or something like that.

The whole cartoon is a poke at Opera, Elmer always trying to kill Bugs, Bugs always being too clever to get caught, and then finally Elmer gets what he's been after all these years and cries his eyes out over killing the poor little rabbit (or did he?).

Turning that into a lesson on drag is just crazy town s**t.

nd if you knew the story of Burnhilde - a shield maiden, it's even funnier!

Drag queens are not "entertainment jobs."
It's more like a hobby. Like playing in a bar band.

My sons drama school puts on a regular Drag Show, for Adults. No one has ever had a problem with it.

So, I'm pretty sure that for a huge majority it's just when the Drag show is "Reading Time at the Library".

Drag is and has been part of our lives for thousands of years. This entire thing could only happen in an environment favoring gaining power through political fascist tendencies. It is part of the tenants of fascism:

People are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common enemy:
racial
ethnic or religious minorities
liberals
communists
socialists
terrorists

The government tends to be almost exclusively male-dominated
Traditional gender roles are made more rigid
Divorce, abortion, and homosexuality are
suppressed

Etc.

Two movies my friend's religious fundamentalist parents refused to let him watch as a kid:

Mrs. Doubtfire and The Lion King.

It was their choice to make, but they sure as hell didn't try to influence my parents in barring me from watching either movie. Personal responsibility has completely gone out the window for the Right.

So what exactly IS Drag Queen story time about? Let's look behind the curtain.

Case in point. The subject of this article is Stormie Daie., aka Raafe Purnsley. Stormie and her partner Naomi Dix formed the " House of Coxx",

"Stormie Daie, a queen who uses her platform to promote racial justice, sex positivity, LGBTQ equality and more."

I"m fine with that.

"Purnsley often weaves into their performances conversations about consent, HIV/AIDS, racial inequity, Durham's rapid gentrification, and gender and sexuality."

I"m fine with that too.

"This summer, they read picture books about gender and sexuality at a kid-friendly drag storytelling event in Chapel Hill. "

Not fine with that, and many parents are not. It's about teaching small children about gender and sexuality, and I don't think that's the right time, place, person or method to do that. if she wants to do that at private events on private property ... none of my business. If she want to use a public facility, particularly a place like a park or the main room of a library where children may be present for other reasons and stumble upon it becomes our business.

Do you just shrug when the neighbor pulls his belt off to keep the wife and kids inline? I mean if you don't like it, don't look.

Since the notion of a loving, caring, totally concerned with humanity "God" is a 2000+ yr old myth, with nothing to support it but a musty reprint of texts that weren't even written down until some 150-200 yrs or so after said "God's appearance", I'd say that ALL preachers are just playing at make believe and pretend. So go right ahead...
