Texas banned more books from school libraries this past year than any other state in the nation, targeting titles centering on race, racism, abortion and LGBTQ representation and issues, according to a new analysis by PEN America, a nonprofit organization advocating for free speech.

What a lot of people miss in these discussion is that in many small towns, particularly in states like Texas, the ONLY library available to local residents is their school's library, which BTW, has already been paid for with their tax dollars. This is why many public schools allow not only students, but their parents and other people to check-up out books because this is often the only opportunity that these people will have for getting books to read free of charge.

And all texas is is an example of what republican leadership looks like. Give them enough federal power and they'll do the same thing to the whole country.

Thanks goodness that libraries are the only source of books. Imagine the chaos if anyone could walk into some sort of business that sold books, and bought one and took it home. Or, worse yet, with that internet thingy, I wonder if books are sold on it. Buying a book there and having it mailed to you--that could NEVER happen, right? I'm glad there isn't an internet in Texas; we're much safer without one...

If you have read history you know that the people who are banning books are not good guys.

The books being "banned" are mostly cultural. Not every community wants their children to see sexually explicit books like liberals do.

Well that makes it better. Just so long as they don't ban the F-150 shop manual.

Ignorance is not bliss,
Ignorance is ignorance. Being unaware
of what's going on around you
is a good way to get 'run over' in
life due to lack of awareness or of
what is going on at the time.

History is filled with whole societies
going extinct due to the fact that they
lacked information about what was going
on at the time.

The Mayans, the Indus, the Anasazi,
Easter Island, most of the Native American
Tribes of North and Central America,
who failed to understand the size, scope,
and nature of the threat that white man
meant to their civilizations.

Wait around long enough, and history has a
nasty habit of repeating itself...
