They are less concerned with making those electric vehicles effective, or able to do things their far more superior gas-powered counterparts can. Exactly. I live in Texas and rarely see a less than 5 year old truck with a single scratch in the bed. All they want to do is look down on other cars. The higher the truck, the bigger they feel. Granted in addition to my more fuel efficient car, I do have a full size truck, but for hauling construction material and tools and towing a trailer. There are plenty of scratches and dings.

#1 - fossil fuel is of limited supply and getting more so each day.

#2 - gasoline vehicles have had over 100 years of development to get to this point and idiots expect EV's to be more developed.

#3 - in 100 years, gasoline users will be considered to be like 'doctors' that practiced bloodletting or leeching to cure disease.

#4 - only people that are smart enough to understand physics understand what is happening with EV'S and why they will dominate the future.

#1 - Right, and all renewable energy is made out of fossil fuels. Lets stretch that out in ways that make sense.

#2 - First EV was 1832, had a heydey as electric automobiles in the 1870s. First gasoline engine automobile, 1885. The Model T dropped in 1908.

#3 - 9500 pound Hummer EV on line 1 lol. Saving the planet, 1 SUV at a time. Choo choo! That's the sound of progress, with an electric train whistle.

#4 - anybody capable of passing intro to physics can figure out the transportation logistics and energy densities and why hauling giant batteries is a bad idea regardless of the political will to make it happen.

Just like with gasoline powered vehicles, setting up for EVs is going to take some time. Originally gas stations were few and far between, with people pumping gas from 55 gallon drums with hand powered pumps, rather than underground storage tanks we now have. Simply it took time to build out the infrastructure. Generations in fact was the time scale.

It will be no different for EVs. Right now there is not an nationwide setup so you can drive from one coast to the other by EV. Not to mention a lot of distance travelers will wind up in backwoods places on vacation or for family visits. The infrastructure has not been built yet. Even after it is built, the locals will still have to have charging stations built in density such as you now see with gas stations.

Our power grid is not up to the task. We don't have that much excess capacity nation wide to charge all these vehicles in mass. Worse NIMBY is at an all time high. No one really wants nuclear power generation in their back yard. Same with other methods of power generation. Windmills make noise. Eco friendly groups don't want to see birds killed that happen when those windmills are in operation. Solar has it's problems as well. Doesn't make power at night, have to rely on a battery back up. That means huge amounts of manufacture, typically highly pollution driven and of course they have been for years raging about the pollution caused by the traditional methods of transport.

I've never had an EV, not sure I want one at this stage, given it's drawbacks of range, of losing charging capacity/distance by ambient temp, the length of time for a battery charge, and the drawbacks such as pulling a trailer, which will substantially drop the distance you can pull one. For the standard commuter, it might be an answer, other than when it comes time to charge it at home. There's a reason we are having rolling brownouts already before EVs have arrived on the scene in mass. Again it will take generations to convert over to the same levels we have now with gasoline.

Let me tell you about this magic technology, where you still have a battery but it's reasonably sized, and you just carry around your high efficiency generator that can be a wide variety of technologies with you. You've definitely never heard of it, it's such a radical concept few have.

If I was going to haul a trailer I wouldn't be using an EV, mostly because of the time it takes to recharge versus refuel with gas. My MPH drops (about half) when I trailer, so who wouldn't expect the same for an EV? if he's got a range of 200 (which is the low end F150 lightning without the extended tow package) and he did a 92 mile trip and was just getting warnings, he's not that much different than a gasoline fueled truck. A little worse, but I'm not sure it's notable. What was he expecting? Magic?

Stepping back and looking at it, it looks like "Hoovie" is saying trucks can't do basic truck things, regardless.

This this expert doesn't seem to be playing with a full deck.

This is stupid. NOBODY expects internal combustion engines to disappear. Obviously, there will be a small amount of applications, like this one, where ICEs are a better choice. For 99% of personal transport, electric is the future.

I look forward to getting an EV when things get ironed out a little later. Right now I don't have many charging stations near me. I would like to get something in a compact pickup size. I don't tow much but it is really nice to have a small bed for household things like mulching or hauling smaller things. Maybe Ford Maverick size or if Toyota makes an EV Tacoma.

Yeah I know that I meant something that blends in and looks like paint and can actually extend the range of the battery. We are a long way away from it being really useful. I've seen them in vans for when people camp to recharge a battery.
