Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, October 02, 2022

What a disappointment for Billy Eichner and Judd Apatow, but this is an example of Hollywood being insulated from reality even when it has the best of intentions.

""Bros" doesn't have a huge budget " $25 million at most. But the movie has had a tremendous amount of publicity and marketing, a blanketing that most films would give their popcorn up for."

Never heard of it.

It's got insanely good reviews for a movie definitely not meant for everyone and even after losers like Boaz reviewed bombed it.

I guess Boaz believes only movies that make a ton of money are good?

$5 Million in the opening weekend is 3 times what "2000 Mules" has grossed since May if you want to talk about real flops.

Yeah if a movie doesn't make a profit it's a failure.

The 2001 version with Gregory Hines? Never saw it, but it seems to have good reviews.

The only new movie I have on my radar is Avatar 2

I think the movie public is getting tired of virtue signaling, which is about all Hollywood is putting out these days.

Avatar is only going to be "Indigenous good, white man bad". That's it in a nutshell before it even comes out. The public is also getting tired of having this LGBTQALJASFDS being shoved down our throats as being "normal". That's why these type movies are bombing.

Of course, instead of talking about the substance of the post, the normal soy boy, bun wearing ------- of the Retort like Billy starfish and legallyPedo can only talk about me.

Very sad what's happening to the Retort.

Then get the fkkk out of here.

No one needs to read your hateful posts and threads about how much you hate transgender people and homosexuals.

The future is looking better for LGBT people and worse for hateful sacks of shht like you.

Go hang out at your Konservative Kry Klub, or has that shht been fully abandoned?

Loser.

The trailer I saw for the movie was embarrassing.

This movie has shown just how out of touch the left has become with middle America.

"Homophobic weirdo"

Pleasseee..

#14 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2022-10-03 12:39 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

I'm not homophobic but I have zero interest in seeing a gay comedy. I think most straight people fall into this category. I think they have a target audience and I hope their target audience goes out and watches it so more content they enjoy can be made. I also don't like rom coms in general. I'm looking forward to Avatar 2. They should rename the bad guys as republicans in that movie.

#15 | Posted by byrdman at 2022-10-03 12:50 PM | Reply

Byrd,

Even more than the gay aspect, it's the tasteless way gays are behaving in the film. I only saw a trailer and short clips and that showed me the movie is gay soft porn.

I mean...I'm going out on a limb but I will say 2 men in a passionate kiss looks very natural and even lovely to see for me.

But the crude manner and behavior from the little bit I saw was immodest.

The disconnect with middle America may be more the handling of the subject rather than gays themselves.

Byrd,

Blaming the flop on homophobia is disingenuous.

Blame it on the producer and director for being stupid and out of touch with the world outside of their microcosm they live in.

"Blaming the flop on homophobia is disingenuous."

Fair. Homophobia is certainly part of the story, but not all of it.

But I agree that there are a zillion reason someone might not want to see this movie that have nothing to do with homophobia.

If I didn't want to see The Color Purple does that make me blackophobic? Probably not.

#19 | Posted by snoofy at 2022-10-03 01:19 PM | Reply

FYI. Gallup cites that about 5.6% of our population of approx 330 million. SO, if the percentage is approximately accurate then there are about 18,480,000 gays in the USA which is more than enough movie goers to drive BROS to fiscal success should they chose to go to the movie. If its numbers do not go into the black, then that is more on the gay community, and am not even counting woke straight people who may want to see the movie. I do agree that few straights overall would be interested in a gay themed movie.

It's a romantic comedy.

The audience for this genre tends to be women.

I personally don't have any interest in watching this movie.

Regardless. Good for Billy, he made a movie.

But...but..but, you are gay.

I dont think you got the memo on this one, But you arent allowed to not like anything gay. Keep messing around and they will call you a Republican.

And for the record, Bill Johnson and Clownshack are about the only two gay men that I would invite to my house for dinner. I have a gay friend, but he gets in by default since we grew up together.

Entirely agree. Difference between that and Bros is undoubtedly the star power. You had three major actors in Birdcage that did a hilariously amazing job in their roles, especially (IMO) Gene Hackman, who seemingly stepped out of his typical macho persona for a portion of the movie while also poking jabs at conservatives' stereotypical perception of the gay community.

Bros, on the other hand, didn't tap into that sentiment, apparently. The trailer I saw must have been very different than the one BILLJOHNSON saw (soft porn?). But it also just looked really boring. I'll watch Birdcage any day of the week, Robin Williams and Nathan Lane are simply hilarious together. Would have enjoyed a sequel.

Rsty,

"The trailer I saw must have been very different than the one BILLJOHNSON saw (soft porn?)."

Soft porn doesn't show sex...just shows people going through the motions.

A clip I saw showed Luke Macfarlane sitting on a sofa with 2 guys on their knees between his legs chowing down but you can't see any private parts.

Yes...the world I come from that is soft porn.

Your world probably sees it as family entertainment.

Wow, that made it into as a preview? They have really loosened the reigns for what can be shown on TV. Even if this was simulated without showing the full Monty.

But Hollywood will ---- this one up with their woke message.
