Georgia opposition supporters rallied on Wednesday against "uncontrolled" migration from Russia, which has nearly doubled since Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a mobilisation for the war in Ukraine.

Haven't found any links to it yet, but I heard a story on NPR earlier about a Russian fleeing Putin's war has learned to speak Georgian really well. He's a small minority among Russians pouring into Russia. Other Russians laugh at him for learning the language, but he thinks it's just common decency. Unlike many of his Russian friends, he can easily get a taxi or a seat in a nice restaurant.

Some things are universal, I guess.

Any country would be justified in being wary of Russian nationals migrating en masse to their country. 20% of Georgia's territory is already occupied by Russia, and this could easily be a set up for the next pretext to invade down the line.

Picking up some lingo might help when the inevitable backlash sets in. Russians would do well to remember: They are uninvited/tolerated guests and whatever road they took out of Russia into Georgia also runs from Georgia right back into Russia.

Call-Up Exodus Dwarfs Putin's New Army Recruits
finance.yahoo.com

...Far more Russians have fled abroad than have enlisted in the military since Putin announced a mobilization to bolster his faltering invasion of Ukraine.

Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said more than 200,000 people have been conscripted into the army since Putin's Sept. 21 order for a partial call-up, Russian news services reported Tuesday.

That matches an exodus of more than 200,000 Russians to neighboring Kazakhstan alone, according to the central Asian country's interior minister.

Georgian authorities said almost 69,000 Russians had arrived from across the border by Sept. 30, while almost the same amount crossed into the EU....

I don't see it. The Russians I've met are extremely self-interested and have not much concern for the homeland. Admittedly, they're all immigrants to the States, so my sample is very biased.

Years ago, a friend married the daughter of a Russian immigrant. I learned at the wedding that her father was the head of the Russian mafia in L.A. at the time. Another friend who was best man told me Mike got a warning from "dad" at the reception to never even make her cry. Ouch.

My buddy and I were talking about Mike just the other day. I asked if he'd heard from him in recent years. Nope. Hopefully, no Zamochit was involved. (An old Russian method of murder which involves the breaking of every single bone in the body, one by one)

A friend married a Russian years ago.

Within two years she suspected he married her so he could immigrate and the Judge agreed.

As for the Russians in Georgia the men need to be assessed for their skills and also prepared to help fight Russia should it invade Georgia....again.
