Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The midterm elections are exactly one month from tomorrow, and as American voters start making their decisions, the parties' closing messages are taking shape. In fact, leading Republicans have narrowed their focus to a handful of oft-repeated lines of attack. The problem, of course, is the lines of attack are rooted in discredited nonsense.

When the Biden administration and congressional Democrats boosted funding for law enforcement, plenty of folks on the left were not pleased. The party did it anyway, at least in part with political inoculation in mind: It's tough to attack Democrats for wanting to "defund the police" when the party supports spending more on the police.

That is, Democrats thought it'd be tough to attack them on this. What's happened instead is that Republicans have ignored reality, made up claims that are the opposite of the truth, and shrugged their shoulders when asked to defend attacks that are plainly indefensible.

Of course, the one question that leading Republicans find especially difficult as the midterm elections approach involves the larger context: If the Democratic majority is failing, why isn't the truth good enough?

Today's GOP and their loyal sycophants inhabit an echo chamber that I and many others call Earth II - or as Kelly Anne Conway calls it an alternative facts reality. Truth doesn't matter; lies are encouraged; all in the attempt to convince the unlearned that Democrats are the real demons instead of the Republican Lucifers' deludedly calling themselves archangels, busily trying to sell the rubes waterfront property in hell.

They're also highlighting "high crime," "Bidenflation," and their supposed commitment to America, something that is, as far as I can tell, nothing but platitudes and empty promises with a predictable lack of details.

Here's one important truth...

"Unemployment rate falls to 3.5% in September, payrolls rise by 263,000 as job market stays strong

"This puts the nail in the coffin for another 75 [basis point rate increase] in November," said Jeffrey Roach, chief economist at LPL Financial. A basis point is 0.01 percentage point."

They'll also point to the S&P DOWN nearly 25% YTD.

Or they'll lie and inflate the number....but they don't really need to.

Doesn't matter that they're lying.

What matters is people believe them.

This is why conservatives want to limit education.

Gotta keep your base dumb enough to believe your bullshht.

They want eliminate education and substitute job training. Don't study science so you can enhance your understanding of the world around for it's own sake; learn to write code so you can make money.

Education, on the other hand, is the Liberal Arts; languages, literature, history, and philosophy. Education was invented to train the men of the aristocracy on how to behave and how to achieve and maintain power. It was never intended for the "common people".

Here's a hint: the men who invented this country had Liberal Arts educations prior to whatever they learned about architecture, engineering, etc.

Liberal Arts is a perfectly lrgitimate msjor, I knpw it was mine and it enabled me to earn a good living and raise three children designing catalogs, sdvertisements and very large web sites for decades. The focus on lsnguage and art was very useful especially during the decades my career spanned with rapidly changing technoologies flexibility and adaptability kept me employed and able to be creative. I knew others in my industry who fell by the wayside because they fpcused too much on learning web developement but they could only msintain online stores but couldn't really create really good ones. The broad view of our industry was needed to really create stores that anyone really wanted to use and the ability to understand what customers wanted couldn;t be learned in a Computer Science class. So yes, technical skills are important but he ability to imagine ahug web site or a printed catalog is still a necessary ability if you want a finished product that can hold the attention of users. I worked for a few companies that, at first, wuestioned that but the finished products convinced them of the truth of what I am saying.

Who is thinking that B.S.? No one is "leaning" on those claims..

Most messages are fact based:

Gas prices (which are going back up)
Employment (Which is tightening due to layoffs)
Crime (no explanation needed)
America's weakness overseas
Inflation is at an all time high and rising
Cost of goods.

No one is running on your fantasy points in this article. You progressives are funny. Just because you say something doesnt mean it's true. And you are WRONG.

But I hope you keep at it. I really hope you think the B.S. this article is saying.

It's going to be a landslide in the midterms..

Now this one is really interesting.

You mean despite Biden's masculine efforts in Ukraine and the re-invigoration of NATO?

Going out on a limb while you saw it off I see.

Well ok then! I guess no need to vote then. It's all over!

Someone obviously hasn't been paying attention to how closely divided Americans are.

I predict another nail biter. And a lot more sore republican losers.

And a supreme court that continues to struggle with its own ethics.

And probably another divided Congress.

And at worst a lot of presidential vetoes.

Don't look now Boaz. But you literally admitted you're a gullible fool who drinks from the Republican punch bowl.

Gas prices (which are going back up)

Thanks Saudis and Russia. (Who do you blame? Democrats? For not blowing dictators like Trump did?)

Employment (Which is tightening due to layoffs)

"The unemployment rate was 3.5% in September 2022, on par with pre-pandemic levels."

Crime (no explanation needed)

Probably does need an explanation. Police budgets around the nation are on average higher than ever before.

America's weakness overseas

I still remember you calling Putin a genius.

You may hate America. But it's stronger overseas than it was during the Trump administration.

At least other nations aren't laughing at us and mocking by us anymore.

Inflation is at an all time high and rising
Cost of goods.

All around the world. It's so low in America compared to other nations you sound like a spoiled brat.

The TrumpVirus fkkked everything up and the world is still recovering from its effects.

The Entire World. All nations. Inflation in America is moot in comparison.

Stop pretending you are thinking. Just admit you're a mouthpiece for the GOP.

Is there any conspiracy the GOP can hand you that you won't run with?

I've had political discussions withconservatives that I knpw personlly or close relatives as well and those points were recited by them almost word for word to thpse inthe article and I suspect they honestly do nelieve them even though they are fsctually false because they all listen to the liars on Fox News. But they don't like it wgen we tell them the truth because they can't admit they have believed, even defended the liars on Fox.

"Representative Republic"

The United States is a representative democracy. This means that our government is elected by citizens. Here, citizens vote for their government officials. These officials represent the citizens' ideas and concerns in government.

Your representatives are also elected democratically. By the people. Which makes it a representative government of the people by the people for the people.

It's just not a direct democracy like in the original democracy of Athens. It's a new an improved version.

He never valued his vote anyway.

Better to let his betters make the decisions.
