Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Americans are heading to the polls Tuesday in an election that has state and local officials across the country on edge, bracing for potential problems in voting stations, contentious legal battles over ballots and a fight against disinformation about the vote itself.

The polls opened here at 6 am. I got there around 6:30 and dropped off our absentee ballots. I was surprised and happy to see there was already a bit of a line. Vote! Or forever hold your peace.

Proof Democrats are lying, sneaky, disingenuous rats.. The reason America is voting for the Conservatives:

www.dailymail.co.uk

'There's strategic ways to do it... not to raise the flag': Undercover video catches Wife of Colorado Senator saying Dems are quietly defunding the police - and admitting the Inflation Reduction Act is really a health and climate bill

Undercover journalists filmed Susan Daggett, the wife of Sen. Michael Bennet, speak about the Defund the Police movement and the Inflation Reduction Act
She suggested in the video that Democrats should defund the police 'quietly'
Daggett also told the undercover reporters they should not talk openly about how the Inflation Reduction Act is really a health and climate bill
Bennet's challenger, Republican Joe O'Dea, says the video proves Democrats are 'trying to pull a fast one on the American people'

Why do they have to "sneak" it in? Why lie about it? Because they KNOW the AMERICAN people DONT WANT IT!

"The final uncertified Philly vote totals show President-elect Joe Biden received 604,175 votes, or 81% of Philly's presidential votes, to Trump's roughly 18% or 132,870 votes.

Biden received about 20,000 more Philly votes than Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton did in 2016.

Trump also improved from four years ago, receiving about 24,000 more Philly votes in 2020 than in 2016."

I have always voted the day of the election. Not this time. Due to the threat of hurricane Nicole I early voted Sunday. I was shocked at the amount of people there. That early voting site parking lot has been packed since it opened. Something I've never seen. And what a nice site. No matter the outcome, the people have definitely showed up and voted here.

My 401K is solid.
My investments have dropped a little - about 3.8%. Not much to worry about, honestly.
But if yours have dropped more, my sympathy goes out to you.

Now - let's look at the two parties; shall we?
Republicans want to do away with Social Security, or privatize it so your investments are tied to the market and subject to inflation. This puts your entire retirement completely at the whims of the market. They want to "review" it and Medicare (and more) every 5 years.

Democrats want to keep Social Security tied to the cost of living as a safety net - the way it was intended. If you have SS then that part of your income has been protected from inflation by the Democrats.

I don't believe that "Democrats" are reporting problems with voting machines as "Democrats" don't manage voting machine problems. That would be the job of election officials who trained and are supposed to be nonpartisan.

So link or lie. (lol)

And the Russians themselves are the ones reporting that they attempted interference in our elections.

Yep and the Republicans have been so helpful!!

Our economy is still much better than most. Google how much the UK France and Germany pay for gas.

Gasoline prices in the United States, which have recently hit record highs, are actually much lower than in many countries. Drivers in some European cities, like Amsterdam and Oslo, are paying nearly 3 times more than those in the U.S.

And the Republicans are apparently planning to allow pooty to have his way. I am sure that will solve everything!!

People have tried to warn them. Some listened some didn't.

Don't believe in them either. For the same reason. The stock market is akin to gambling with your future.

My pension benefits are not relying on the markets. But then again there are fewer and fewer real pensions anymore. It's one of the biggest cons in American history that no one talks about anymore.

It is one of the most well-known stories about American retirement: the decline of defined benefit pensions in the private sector. At one time, 88 percent of private sector workers who had a workplace retirement plan had a pension. That number is now 33 percent. So what happened? Where did all the private sector pensions go? While the advent of the 401(k) certainly played a role, the true cause may have more to do with a series of laws passed from the mid-1980s to the mid-2000s.

The reason the Republicans don't have a plan to fight inflation is Republicans are fundamentally okay with price gouging and inflation.

Inflation simply isn't bad if you're a Republican. It almost always means wealth is being transferred upwards, which is the only economic policy the Republicans have.

You would have gotten that notice about insulin 2 years earlier if Joe Biden hadn't reversed Trump's action on insulin.

It does nothing to reduce the cost of insulin, just transfers the bill to someone else. Joe's patrons in big pharma still get to charge an extortionate amount for something that was affordable.

For The Record: My wife's has been in her company's 401k for years [invested in six market funds] and even though the market is down, she is still way up from a profitability point of view.

She gains from her employer match [free money] and downturns in the market as every Friday her money goes into the 401k which equates to/is 'dollar cost averaging' where at this point in time she is gaining more shares, and fractions of shares are their 'cost' is currently down and once the market improves her gain will be great.

FYI: Dollar cost averaging KEY TAKEAWAYS

Dollar-cost averaging is the practice of systematically investing equal amounts of money at regular intervals, regardless of the price of a security.

Dollar-cost averaging can reduce the overall impact of price volatility and lower the average cost per share.

By buying regularly in up and down markets, investors buy more shares at lower prices and fewer shares at higher prices.

Dollar-cost averaging aims to prevent a poorly timed lump sum investment at a potentially higher price.

Beginning and long-time investors can both benefit from dollar-cost averaging.

Ya, mine being "down" 3.8% means down from the high. It's also not a 401K (I don't have one). Overall I'm doing extremely well and have invested wisely but aggressively. Plus by taking out loans about 2 years ago that were all zero interest rates, I get to pay those off with dollars that are worth less today - giving me a built-in discount on my purchases.

The Lite forecast (essentially a "polls only" version) and the Classic forecast (polls plus other objective indicators) have Republicans as just 50 and 51 percent "favorites," respectively."

"4 There are drug-makers that rule the market on insulin -- an issue that has driven cost."

Yep.

Cost goes up, prices to make insulin stays the same.

As the article concludes,

"Treatment costs for those with diabetes are greatly impacted by the price of insulin. This is largely driven by the three major companies that produce it."

It's exactly as I said, Visitor_. The "skyrocketing costs" are simply increased profit margins, nothing more.

They've talked a good game, but the results after they've had control has been recessions and skyrocketing debt and deficits since Reagan. They don't give even one s*** about working Americans.

A "red wave" will be the hotly contested elections won by large margins, not nail biters. And a pickup of dozens of House seats with substantial gains in the Senate as well.

2018 was a Democratic wave:

House control :

Democratic House gain:

Popular vote margin Democratic +8.6%
Net seat change Democratic +41

Senate:

Seats contested 39 (36 states, three territories)
Net seat change Democratic +7

That's what a "wave" looks like.

"Earlier Monday, a judge in Monroe County in Northeast Pennsylvania decided that election officials could notify the few hundred voters there whose mail-in ballots were submitted with errors, to give them a chance to correct them.

The judge, Arthur Zulick, noted that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court hadn't gone as far as to say whether ballots with missing dates should be thrown out entirely, or could be corrected by Election Day."

On principle, no. However, every state has their own processes and in Pennsylvania this has already been ruled by their SC based upon the rules governing elections that state has on the books.

Absent a legislative change to their electoral process those ballots are invalid and thus will not be counted.

"Fetterman (D) is already suing to have 10,000 mail in ballots that have either the wrong date or no date on them to be counted. Pennsylvania Supreme Court already adjudicated this last time around."

It's several hundred, not even near 1000 let alone 10,0000 in one county:

Earlier Monday, a judge in Monroe County in Northeast Pennsylvania decided that election officials could notify a few hundred voters there whose mail-in ballots were submitted with errors, to give them a chance to correct them.

The judge, Arthur Zulick, noted that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court hadn't gone as far as to say whether ballots with missing dates should be thrown out entirely, or could be corrected by Election Day.

So, in Maricopa County, 20% of the votes are not being properly tabulated. Secretary of State and Gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs is in charge of the election process in Arizona. Which means this voting machine problem is technically her fault if we work up the chain to 'The buck stops here.'

This is how NPR frames it:

NPR

@NPR
In Arizona, an election denying Republican faces off against a Democrat defending election integrity in the state's gubernatorial race.

I'm with you, sort of, but I'm also not. When it comes to elections we have to rigorously follow procedure. I have no problem changing procedure after the fact, as many states have done with expanded early voting and mail-in voting (not a fan of mail-in).

If Republicans take back the House, it'll only be by a couple of seats. Then, they'll make idiots of themselves the next 2 years with ridiculous "investigations" and get shellacked in 2024.

DeSantis' gerrymandering in FL flipped 4 seats to red there. They did it here too, splitting Nashville into about 5 districts and creating a new one guaranteed to go red. That's all they have.

So far, it doesn't appear Republicans aren't having a "wave election." More like wind on a puddle, if it even turns out they take the House. And if they do take it, the margin will be razor thin.

Looks like the Georgia senate race could go to a runoff ... again. Walker's under performing in Trump counties, currently.

So much for the big wave election BOAZ and others were just so sure would happen. As it turns out, Democrats are doing very well for the first midterm in their party's president's first term.

Looks like Kari Lake will go down in flames in AZ. Hobbs has a 13.4% lead, with most of the uncounted votes in the most populous and Democrat-heavy Maricopa and Pima counties.

Democrats are currently leading in 7 or 8 Republicans seats they flipped from incumbents with 70+% of votes counted. Don't be surprised if Dems keep the House ... and even grow their margin by a couple of seats. it's entirely possible, though we may not know for a couple of weeks.

Warnock isn't behind by much, and most of the uncounted votes are in GA's most populous counties where he's leading by substantial margins already.

Fetterman should win (for a pickup). Currently with a 40,000+ vote margin, again with most of the uncounted votes in PA's heavily populated counties he's winning by as much as a +60 margin.

America turned out in record numbers and said "NO THANKS!" to Trump and his --- kissing candidates in quite a number of contested seats.

But I've got a very sneaky suspicion that even with AZ going heavily blue, Sinema will either declare herself an Independent or Republican very soon. She didn't spend a dime of her PAC money to help her own state Dems this cycle. That is not good.

#247 | Posted by tonyroma at 2022-11-09 12:39 AM | Reply

Even if Republicans eke out a 2 or 3 member House majority this election (which would be a historically bad result for them), they'll waste their time with mean-spirited idiotic investigations and further turn off the majority of Americans.

And it could just as likely turn out they don't win a House majority and Dems could add to theirs.

When all is said and done if things don't go as well for Republicans as they had hoped/anticipated, will the GOP finally turn on Trump and crown DeSantis, who won big in FL, the new Republican kingmaker and 2024 presidential favorite? Trump better have some really bad and convincing dirt on DeSantis or the Republican motto going forward isn't going to be Make America Great Again. It is going to be Make Amrica Florida.

Could be it won't matter if she does. Fetterman looks like a win. Warnock looks likely too. Both in states with uncounted votes in the largest counties where they have large majorities already.

Could very well be 51 D after all the votes are counted.

And could you imagine voters in GA turning out in huge numbers for Walker if it goes to a runoff if the remaining votes in their largest counties don't push Warnock over 50%? Fulton and Gwinett counties would say, "absolutely not!"

Nevada is still scary though. Early Clark County(Vegas) election day voter breakdown is 56% Republican and only 44% Democrat.

If the votes aren't in the mail-in ballots, things look very shaky there.

FYI: Due to restricting Democrats could lose 3 previously Democratic held House Seats in NY: Districts 17, 18 and 19. It's super complicated how the districts were redrawn, but the bottom line is that Dems could lose all 3 seats. I'm holding out hope they will hold District 18, but if they do it will be extremely close:

The only House seats the GOP is picking up are gerrymandered seats that they stole from Democrats through redistricting, and Dems are picking up seats from Rs in a midterm cycle. Freaking crazy.

What say the crew here earlier this morning: If the Dems hold the House will Nancy give it 2 more years as Speaker or will she retire anyway regardless after what happened to Paul?

I think it's pretty much a given if the GOP takes over the House that she'll retire from her seat. But if the Dems hold a tiny majority, wouldn't it be much more effective with the Boss at the helm rather than someone learning on the job during the most perilous time in US political history?

Speaking of the devil:

Trump appears to have been alarmed by an underwhelming Republican performance tonight - this was not an event where he talked to reporters after delivering a clipped speech, and he spent the rest of the evening with several advisors watching results on television.

Trump waited until midnight to get up from his table at the front end of the Mar-a-Lago ballroom where he sat for hours with Susie Wiles, David Bossie, Boris Epshteyn, Lindsey Halligan and a few others, around the same time as reporters were ushered out.

Note those NY House races I talked about in #256 are in the Hudson Valley:

Republicans remain on track to claim the House majority, but their hopes for a red wave have dimmed somewhat as many races remain too close to call. Democrats have performed well in a handful of key seats, including VA-7, where Rep. Abigail Spanberger held off a GOP challenger, and OH-01, where GOP Rep. Steve Chabot has conceded defeat against Greg Landsman. Still, a GOP majority in the House remains within reach. Republicans unseated Dem Rep. Elaine Luria in VA-2 and hold leads in multiple races in New York's Hudson Valley, including against DCCC Chair Sean Patrick Maloney.

Is it true that absentee ballots are counted after in person ballots?

Depends on the state. The states that wait tend to do so because Republicans wanted it that way to try and catch Dems voting twice - once by mail, and then in person on Election Day.

Yes. In key GOP controlled states, absentee ballots are counted after in-person ballots. Republican controlled legislatures in several states enacted that into law. In a handful of them, they can't even start counting until after election day.

Back of the envelope math:

GA's 5 largest counties - who've gone for Warnock by an average 35% lead - have 96,000 uncounted votes.

If Warnock wins the remaining votes by a 20% margin, he'll be over 50%

NYT just updated his share of the vote to 49.45%. He's 1/2% away from a 50% win right now.

I will say this - the lunatic Republican challenging the sane and competent Democrat for a House seat lost - though the red candidate's signs were all over the place. The red candidate ran on "don't say gay" didn't begin to go far enough, and "no abortion" no matter what.

Maxwell Alejandro Frost (25 year old Democrat) won, becoming the first Gen-Z member of Congress. He defeated the red candidate Calvin Wimbish (72 years old, former Green Beret and a lunatic election denier, anti-vax, anti-abortion in all cases)

DeSantis' redistricting, that even had some GOP members complaining it went too far, worked for the reds.

And welcome back to Matt Gaetz (seriously? SERIOUSLY? WTF??)

Where are all our usual trump cult posters that are on here every morning?

Why aren't they gloating about the glorious victory they've been predicting for months?

Why couldnt they wipe out a party who's leader has terrible approval numbers during a time of horrible inflation?

Oh could it be that attempting to overthrow democracy and install christian theocracy scares people more than high gas prices?

Keep sticking with trump. PLEASE. It's working really well. And admitting you were wrong about him would be admitting you got duped because you're a sucker. Which indicates you've been duped about many other things as well. Stick with trump or else you're admitting you dont know anything and no one should listen to you.

It looks like Cortez Masto may pull it off in Nevada. Most of the votes yet to come in are in Clark County (where the most voters in NV live).

This is what really concerns me about the left and it has for some time. The late Charles Krauthammer said it well, "We think they are wrong and misguided. They think we are evil."

It's gotten worse and worse and it's why we've seen an ever-increasing tendency on the left to embrace the ends justifying the means, even if the means are violent.

Is the margin of victory more than .05%, avoiding a mandatory recount?

Last I've seen is that as ballots continue to trickle in it keeps tightening to the point that the margin is razor-thin.

This is where I find you to be so willfully ignorant ALL the time. If there's one thing that can be said about both parties, it's they they each find their opponents to be "evil."

Why have you been ignoring the very vocal and public attacks by Republican politicians against their Dem foes, suggesting they're drinking babies' blood, grooming children in public schools, holding pedophile parties in the basement of pizza parlors? Calling someone a fascist is certainly serious and cuts deep. But drinking baby blood and pedophilia as "political attacks"?

Why are you ignoring Qanon's messages and the significant portion of Republicans that prop them up? And you think quoting a prominent Republican who's been dead for 4 years is apt?

JFC, Belly. Why do you even bother with this chit? There are MANY things to go after the Dems for, but this point you're attempting to make proves how closedminded you truly are. Glad to see you've committed to dropping Trump, shows you have some self-awareness. Yet, of course, then you spin around on a heel and drop this mountain of dog chit on the thread -- it's now almost like clockwork.

Swallow it.

I'm guessing it'll be a recount, but considering how she had a 97% chance of winning reelection, just goes to show what a dumpster fire she truly is. Not sure about your statement that she's probably a better call girl than a politician. She's pretty, but keep that level of crazy duh fnkc out of my bed. God knows what she's capable of in that department. Yikes!

Of course you can find swamp fever at the extremes of all sides. When it comes to this crap the GOP has to own Trump's rhetoric - which he applies even to people on his supposed side who won't be sycophants. But what I'm speaking of is far more prevalent on the left than it is the right, at least at this moment in time.

#349 There was a story about her within the last several months that at one time she was, in fact, a call girl. I don't know if it's true but it's kind of a fun story to believe.

But yeah, she's fairly bat-shart crazy.

Restricting abortion the way Republicans have is evil.

So is refusing Medicaid expansion.

So is not wearing a mask.

Republicans literally kill people with these policies.

The Boebert-Frisch race is tied 50-50% but the bulk of ballots yet to be counted, per AP, are in Pitkin County (80% counted, currently Frisch +58, not a typo), Pueblo County (91.6% counted, currently Frisch +9.6), and Garfield County (90% counted, currently Frisch +13.6).

It hasn't been called yet. Still votes to be counted. If there is a mandatory recall, it wouldn't typically change the winner/loser.

Two days out and Democracy is still alive. So, where are all of the apologies from the Left claiming it was at stake?

"Republicans literally kill people with these policies."

Committing to freedom and giving choices instead of oppression by tyranny is something a huge amount of people favored in our country's past in order to enable this country to thrive. Taking away freedoms should only be done in the most drastic of circumstances. One would think that the Liberal party would understand that concept given their recent tantrum about abortion. Either that or making America less free is the overall objective of the Dem party. Either way, neither option is good.

Apologies?

Democracy was on the ballot. It will continue to be on the ballot as long as liars and cheats like the GOP under Trump are still alive. Approximately 200 election deniers were elected. The ramifications of them being put in office will take time - and will depend on how well certain states act.

You get no apology for defending freedom and democracy.
You get no apology for broadcasting what was and is at stake.
Not from any true American.

And then you prove they're right be becoming the cult of a man only evil people would admire, taking healthcare from the poor to give tax cuts to the rich, taking kids from their parents and putting them in cages, forcing women to give birth, and then attempting to overthrow democracy.
