Video has been released of Columbia County Fl Sheriff Deputies arresting a blind man who was carrying his his retractable cane in his back pocket. The video shows an officer approach Jim Hodges, who was walking home after jury duty, and demand to know what the object is sticking out of his back pocket. Hodges, who is legally blind, explains that the object which resembles a lightsaber from Star Wars is a retractable walking stick. The interaction should have been over once she identified the object but she then asks the man for his ID and informs that he is being detains when he refuses to ID. Her supervisor shows up and Mr. Hodges explains the situation. They handcuff Hodges after he refuses to ID himself. After he asks for their names and badge they tell him he's under arrest for resisting (he didn't resist) and illegally search him to find his ID. He was held in jail for a full day before being released.
