Why is it suddenly so "unimportant" to you? I've never seen you object to entertainment/celebrity stories before. It's noteworthy in part because it's the third time he's hosted immediately after an election, and in part because of the supposed controversy. Got any opinions on either of those things?

The concept of "punching down" is inherently problematic, because it assumes that classes of people are immune from any criticism or satire because they're inherently inferior. If a comedian only punches in one direction, then it's a valid point, but that's not the case with Chappelle.

There's a difference between being mean-spirited/petty/nasty and saying things which push people out of their comfort zones. That's the difference between bad satire and good satire. Satire isn't necessarily bad just because it represents a viewpoint you don't personally identify with.

That would be everyone.

Really great lines bout empathy and human experience here... of course most people who lack empathy won't even listen to it.
