An investigation is underway after an officer accidentally fired a gun and hit a student at South Vermillion High School. According to police, the shooting happened just after 9:30 Thursday morning. There was a class teaching students how to be officers. Participants in the classroom were doing a drill about a scenario with a so-called "bad guy." Indiana State Police identified the deputy as Tim DisPennett, a 19-year veteran with the Vermillion County Sheriff's Office. Police say a DisPennett accidentally fired his service weapon and hit a student. The student went to a Terre Haute hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 19-year veteran of law enforcement accidentally shot his service weapon at a student?

Sounds like a White Power gang.

Why didn't the teacher return fire after the cop shot the student?

The soundest arguments against the 2nd amendment are Americans themselves.

Why in God's name would an actual firearm, loaded or unloaded, be used in a demonstration that required anything more than showing how to operate a weapon?

Any "drill" where a gun would be needed to be handled like a gun should have used a non-functional replica. Maybe an airsoft at most.

Qualified immunity should not be an issue.

Of course a demonstration for high schoolers on being a police man wasn't about helping people or the concept of law, it was about shooting "bad guys".
The whole concept of police and law enforcement in this country is f-ed to all hell.
