House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy served further notice Sunday that his potential speakership will be politically volatile, saying he will try to keep three high-profile Democrats off of certain committees. McCarthy has targeted Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee; and Reps. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., members of the House Intelligence Committee.

Schiff and other Democrats said McCarthy is trying to court support from hard-right conservatives like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. - who was expelled from committees during a 2021 vote of the full House because of her incendiary statements about Democrats.

"I suspect he will do whatever Marjorie Taylor Greene wants him to do," Schiff said on ABC's "This Week." "He is a very weak leader of his conference, meaning that he will adhere to the wishes of the lowest common denominator. And if that lowest common denominator wants to remove people from committees, that's what they'll do."

None of this is a surprise. Congress is pretty much in a 2 year lame duck session. All they can manage is seating judges when/if necessary.

McCarthy is a reminder that some people don't give a damn about how they're remembered by history.

Of course they are.

You can expect them to be petty, vindictive POSes for every second they're in control.

"Governance" to them has become little more than using the power of government to lash out at perceived enemies.

Let's see, Adam Schiff who for 3 years lied to us that he had the actual Russian collusion evidence and Eric Swalwell who was sleeping with and giving access to our intelligence to a convicted Chinese spy. These are the type of people the Dems are outraged about losing their seats on the intelligence committee. Can't make this up.

The saddest part will be seeing if Madge can get herself together to show up on time for all of those committee hearings, then say something intelligent after reading the flash cards provided to her by staff, question witnesses without a harangue, and be an able contributor to legislation more challenging than the dedication of new post office branches. I'll wager she will buckle under the pressure of doing work...

A blast from the past:

In remarks to reporters outside the Capitol, Greene (R-Ga.) claimed she had "been freed" by the bipartisan vote on Thursday that stripped her of her seats on the House Budget and the House Education and Labor panels. "If I was on a committee, I'd be wasting my time, because my conservative values wouldn't be heard, and neither would my district's," Greene said.

So there's that.

Looks like McCarthy hasn't learned anything from recent elections. America continues to reject the radical GOP extremists. Stunts like this and threats of impeaching Biden isn't going to win them any new voters in future elections.

No matter what words he speaks we all know that Trump already had his "seat".

We've all seen how the Republican party is overwhelmingly made up of cowards.

Out of all the people that Trump's insurrectionists tried to kill how many Republicans threatened to kick his ass?

How many of them said that he was to blame for that and kept saying this?

How many of them voted to impeach trump?

#17 | Posted by Tor at 2022-11-21 04:26 PM | Reply

IF McCarthy is elected speaker. He isn't there yet, and may not get there according to reports of fighting within the GOP caucus. IF McCarthy is elected speaker his --------- will be owned by others.

McCarthy and his quixotic quest for the speakership sure do bring to mind that old saw about being careful what you wish for. The poor bastard probably wants the job so much he doesn't even remember why he wanted it in the first place.

So ... instead of helping Americans they will spend all their energies and political capital on engaging in revenge politics in order to protect the seditionists.

Like the American Nazi supporters and seditionists did in 1944.

"In the lead up to World War II, there was a Nazi agent operating in the United States, running a big propaganda operation out of the U.S. Congress. He wasn't sneaking around. Lots of members of Congress " both senators and members of the House " were involved. Some of them were getting paid by the German government. It was gross and bad. "

Gosar and Greene were punished for a specific reason: They're members who were accused of espousing violence. Democrats didn't change the rules so much as they set a standard: To endorse political violence is to cross an important line that warrants congressional consequences.

If McCarthy has evidence of Omar, Schiff, or Swalwell endorsing violence, he'd have a compelling point. But he doesn't, which makes his vow ridiculous.

The second has to do with process. Under normal circumstances, Democratic leaders make committee assignments for Democratic members, just as Republican leaders make committee assignments for Republican members. To create an exception would require the vote of the full House.

And third, it ordinarily wouldn't matter whether one party's leadership doesn't like another party leadership's committee assignments. If Schiff wants to remain on the House Intelligence Committee in the next Congress, he'd need the support of Democratic leaders, not GOP leaders.

Will 218 House Republicans agree to retaliate against Omar, Schiff, and Swalwell as part of a petty partisan exercise? Perhaps, but if they do, the door to similar measures will swing wider, and future ugliness will become inevitable.

That's always your response, "I could show you but I won't". Schiff had nothing, he said so only when he was under oath. Then he would run to the mic and said he had it knowing morons like you would and did believe it. So yes, link the actual evidence that Schiff had and while your at it include Mueller because he never got it either.

Smirking Matt Gaetz says he has 5 firm votes against McCarthy, which would be enough to scuttle Joe, uh, I mean Kevin McCarthy's bid for the Speaker's gavel.

GAETZ: "To catch everyone up, last week there were 36 votes against Kevin McCarthy in the Republican conference, and again, Kevin has had years to try to convince people of the worth of his candidacy. Since that time, zero of those 36 have come out to say, You know what, I voted against McCarthy previously, but I'm now prepared to vote for him on the floor." Zero. Meanwhile, five members, which include myself, Andy Biggs, Bob Good, Matt Rosendale, and now most recently Ralph Norman, have all come out and said that our no' vote on McCarthy is firm. It was not just a no vote within the Republican conference. It is a no' vote we intend to carry to the floor.

Democracy is a constant conflict, a war between those who hate freedom, and those who treasure the truth and peace and the sharing of power. The Republican Party is lost to the banana republic people, they are bought and sold, just like their Supreme Corrupt Court.
